भूषितं भूषितैर्दिव्यैराश्रमैः शतकोटिभिः
It was decorated with countless divine hermitages, all beautifully adorned.
अतीव वलयाकारं यथा पूर्णेन्दुमण्डलम्
It was exceedingly circular in shape, like a full moon's disc.
सुदुर्गमं च शत्रूणामन्येषां सुगमं सुखम् 2.17.
Very difficult for enemies to enter, but easy and pleasant for others.
राजितं द्वादशद्वारैर्द्वारपालसमन्वितैः
It was splendid with twelve gates, each guarded by gatekeepers.
मणीन्द्रसारखचितैः शोभितं लक्षमन्दिरैः
Adorned with mansions numbering in the hundreds of thousands, studded with chief gems.
रत्नचित्रकपाटाद्यैः सद्रत्नकलशान्वितैः
With jewel-encrusted doors and jewel-topped vessels.
परितो रक्षितं शश्वद्दानवैः शतकोटिभिः
It was perpetually protected all around by countless Dānavas.
सुन्दरैश्च सुवेषैश्च नानालङ्कारभूषितैः
By handsome and well-dressed ones, adorned with various ornaments.
द्वारे नियुक्तं पुरुषं शूलहस्तं च सस्मितम्
At the gate was stationed a man, holding a spear, smiling.
कथयामास वृत्तान्तं जगाम तदनुज्ञया
He narrated the events and departed with permission.
न कैश्चिद्वारितो दूतो दूतरूपेण तस्य च
No one stopped the messenger, who had taken on the form of a messenger for him.
रणस्य सर्ववृत्तान्तं विज्ञापयितुमीश्वरम्
He went to inform the Lord of all the events of the battle.
स गत्वा शंखचूडं तं ददर्श सुमनोहरम् 2.17.
Having gone there, he saw Shankhachuda, who was exceedingly charming.
मणीन्द्रखचितं चित्रं रत्नदण्डसमन्वितम्
He saw him adorned with a splendid staff set with jewels and topped with precious gems.
भृत्येन हस्तविधृतं स्वर्णच्छत्रं मनोहरम्
A beautiful golden parasol, held by a servant, was shading him.
सुवेषं सुन्दरं रम्यं रत्नभूषणभूषितम्
He was handsomely dressed, attractive, delightful, and adorned with jeweled ornaments.
दानवेन्द्रैः परिवृतं सुवेषं च त्रिकोटिभिः
He was surrounded by the lords of the Daityas, all splendidly attired, numbering thirty million.
एवंभूतं च तं दृष्ट्वा पुष्पदन्तः सविस्मयः
Seeing him in such a state, Pushpadanta was filled with amazement.
पुष्पदन्त उवाच यदुक्तं शङ्करेणैव तद्ब्रवीमि निशामय
Pushpadanta said: 'I will speak what was said by Shankara himself; listen.'
राज्यं देहि च देवानामधिकारं च साम्प्रतम्
'Give the kingdom and authority to the gods at this very moment.'
दत्त्वा त्रिशूलं हरिणा तुभ्यं प्रस्थापितः शिवः
'Having given you the trident, Hari has sent Shiva to you.'
विषयं देहि तेषां च युद्धं वा कुरु निश्चितम्
'Give them their domain, or else, certainly, engage in battle.'
दूतस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा शङ्खचूडः प्रहस्य च 2.17.
Hearing the messenger's words, Shankhachuda laughed.
स गत्वोवाच तूर्णं तं वटमूलस्थमीश्वरम्
He quickly went and spoke to the Lord who was seated at the root of the banyan tree.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे स्कन्द आजगाम शिवान्तिकम्
At that moment, Skanda arrived before Shiva.
विशालाक्षश्च बाणश्च पिङ्गलाक्षो विकम्पनः
Vishalaksha, Bana, Pingalaksha, and Vikampana were there.
कपिलाक्षो दीर्घदंष्ट्रो विकटस्ताम्रलोचनः
Kapilaksha, Dirghadamshtra, Vikata, and Tamralochana were also present.
बलोन्मत्तो रणश्लाघी दुर्जयो दुर्गमस्तथा
Balonmatta, proud of his strength, Rana-shlaghi, Durjaya, and Durgama were there as well.
वसवो वासवाद्याश्च आदित्या द्वादश स्मृताः
The Vasus, beginning with Vāsava, and the twelve Ādityas are remembered.
कुबेरश्च यमश्चैव जयन्तो नलकूबरः
Kubera and Yama as well, Jayanta and Nalakūbara.
