एकमन्वन्तरं पूर्णं राजराजेश्वरो बली
For a full Manvantara, the mighty king of kings ruled.
गन्धर्वाणां किन्नराणां राक्षसानां च शास्तिदः
He governed the Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and Rakshasas.
पूजाहोमादिकं तेषां जहार विषयं बलात्
He forcibly took away their domain of worship, offerings, and the like.
निरुद्यमाः सुराः सर्वे चित्रपुत्तलिका यथा
All the gods became inactive, like painted dolls.
वृत्तान्तं कथयामासू रुरुदुश्च भृशं मुहुः
They narrated the events and wept bitterly again and again.
सर्वं संकथयामास विधाता चन्द्रशेखरम्
The Creator recounted everything to Chandrasekhara.
सुदुर्लभं परं धाम जरामृत्युहरं परम् 2.16.
He beheld the supreme, exceedingly rare abode, which removes old age and death.
ददर्श द्वारपालांश्च रत्नसिंहासनस्थितान्
He saw the gatekeepers seated upon jeweled thrones.
वनमालान्वितान्सर्वान्श्यामसुन्दरविग्रहान्
He saw them all adorned with garlands from the forest, with forms dark and beautiful.
सस्मितान्पद्मवक्त्रांश्च पद्मनेत्रान्मनोहरान्
He saw them smiling, with lotus-shaped faces and enchanting lotus eyes.
तेऽनुज्ञां च ददुस्तस्मै प्रविवेश तदाज्ञया
They gave him permission, and by their command he entered.
देवः सार्द्धं तानतीत्य प्रविवेश हरेः सभाम्
The god, together with them, entered the assembly of Hari.
नारायणस्वरूपैश्च सर्वैः कौस्तुभभूषितैः
All were in the form of Narayana, adorned with the Kaustubha gem.
मणीन्द्रसारनिर्माणां हीरासारसुशोभिताम्
The hall was constructed from the essence of precious jewels and shone with the brilliance of diamonds.
माणिक्यमालाजालाढ्यां मुक्तापंक्तिविभूषिताम्
It was rich with rows of ruby garlands and decorated with lines of pearls.
विचित्रैश्चित्ररेखाभिर्नानाचित्रविचित्रिताम्
It was adorned with various intricate designs and marvelous patterns of many kinds.
सोपानशतकैर्युक्तां स्यमन्तकविनिर्मितैः 2.16.

इन्द्रनीलमणिस्तम्भैर्वेष्टितां सुमनोरमाम्
Encircled by pillars of indranīla gems, exceedingly beautiful.
पारिजातप्रसूनानां मालाजालैर्विराजिताम्
Radiant with garlands and clusters of pārijāta blossoms.
सुसंस्कृतां तु सर्वत्र वासिता गन्धवायुना
Exquisitely prepared throughout, perfumed by fragrant breezes.
सहस्रयोजनायामां परिपूर्णां च किंकरैः
A thousand yojanas in length, filled completely with attendants.
वसन्तं तन्मध्यदेशे यथेन्द्रं तारकावृतम्
Dwelling in that central region, like Indra surrounded by stars.
किरीटिनं कुण्डलिनं वनमालाविभूषितम्
Wearing a crown, earrings, and adorned with a forest garland.
नवीननीरदश्यामं सुन्दरं सुमनोहरम्
Dark as a fresh raincloud, beautiful and captivating.
चन्दनोक्षितसर्वाङ्गं बिभ्रतं केलिपङ्कजम्
His whole body anointed with sandalwood, holding a lotus of play.
गङ्गया परया भक्त्या सेवितं श्वेतचामरैः 2.16.
Served by Gaṅgā with supreme devotion, with white fly-whisks.
एवं विशिष्टं तं दृष्ट्वा परिपूर्णतमं विभुम्
Seeing that distinguished, utterly complete Lord,
पुलकाङ्कितसर्वाङ्गाः साश्रुनेत्राः सगद्गदाः
Their whole bodies thrilled, eyes filled with tears, voices trembling.
पुटाञ्जलियुतो भूत्वा विधाता जगतामपि
The creator of worlds, hands joined in reverence, became thus.
हरिस्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वज्ञः सर्वभाववित्
Hari, hearing those words, all-knowing, knower of all hearts,
