जहार मानसं भर्तुर्लीलया तुलसी सती
Tulasī, the virtuous one, playfully captivated her husband's mind.
वक्षसश्चन्दनं बाह्वोस्तिलकं विजहार सा
She sported with sandalwood on his chest and tilaka on his arms.
स तद्वक्षसि तस्याश्च नखरेखां ददौ मुदा
He joyfully left the mark of her nails upon her chest.
सुरतेर्विरतौ तौ च समुत्थाय परस्परम्
When their lovemaking ceased, they both arose together.
कुङ्कुमाक्तचन्दनेन सा तस्मै तिलकं ददौ
She gave him a tilaka with sandalwood mixed with saffron.
सुवासितं च ताम्बूलं वह्निशुद्धे च वाससी
She offered him fragrant betel and garments purified by fire.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणमंगुलीयकमुत्तमम् 2.16.
And an excellent ring made of priceless jewels.
दासी तवाहमित्येवं समुच्चार्य पुनः पुनः
Saying again and again, 'I am your servant,'
सस्मिता तन्मुखांभोजं लोचनाभ्यां पपौ पुनः
Smiling, she drank in his lotus-like face with her eyes again and again.
स च तां च समाकृष्य चकार वक्षसि प्रियाम्
And he, drawing her close, placed his beloved upon his chest.
चुचुम्ब कठिने गण्डे बिम्बोष्ठे पुनरेव च तदाहृतां रत्नमालां त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुताम्
He kissed her firmly on the cheek and again on her bimba-like lips, and then presented her with a garland of jewels renowned throughout the three worlds.
ददौ मञ्जीरयुग्मं च स्वाहायाश्च हृतं च यत्
He gave her a pair of anklets, and also what had been taken from Svāhā.
अंगुलीयकरत्नानि रत्याश्च वरभूषणम्
He gave her jeweled rings and the finest ornament of Rati.
विचित्रपीठकश्रेणीं शय्यां चापि सुदुर्लभाम्
He gave her a series of splendid, decorated seats and a bed that was exceedingly rare.
निर्माय कबरीभारं तस्याश्च माल्यसंयुतम्
He arranged her abundant hair, adorning it with garlands.
चन्द्रलेखात्रिभिर्युक्तं चन्दनेन सुगन्धिना
He decorated it with three crescent-shaped ornaments and fragrant sandalwood paste.
ज्वलत्प्रदीपाकारं च सिन्दूरतिलकं ददौ 2.16.
He applied a blazing vermilion mark to her forehead, shaped like a lamp.
चित्रालक्तकरागं च नखरेषु ददौ मुदा
He joyfully applied bright red dye to her nails.
हे देवि तव दासोऽहमित्युच्चार्य्य पुनः पुनः
He repeatedly declared, 'O goddess, I am your servant.'
तपोवनं परित्यज्य राजास्थानान्तरं ययौ
Leaving the forest of austerities, he went to another royal abode.
स्थाने स्थानेऽतिरम्ये च पुष्पोद्यानेऽतिनिर्जने
In each delightful place, in every secluded flower garden,
पुष्पभद्रानदीतीरे नीरवातमनोहरे
On the bank of the auspicious river, where the air was still and enchanting,
मधौ मधुकराणां च मधुरध्वनिनादिते
In spring, filled with the sweet sounds of bees,
देवोद्याने देववने चित्रे चन्दनकानने
In the divine garden, the divine forest, and the beautiful sandalwood grove,
कुन्दानां मालतीनां च कुमुदाम्भोजकानने
In the groves of jasmine, mālatī, and lotus flowers,
निर्जने काञ्चनीस्थाने धन्ये काञ्चनपर्वते
In a secluded golden place, on the blessed golden mountain,
पुष्पचन्दनतल्पे च पुंस्कोकिलरुतश्रुते 2.16.
On a bed of flowers and sandalwood, where the calls of male cuckoos were heard,
कामुक्या कामुकः कामात्स रेमे रामया सह
The lover, driven by desire, enjoyed with his beloved Rāma.
हविषा कृष्णवर्त्मेव ववृधे मदनस्तयोः
With offerings, the path of Krishna flourished, and passion grew between the two.
रम्यं क्रीडालयं कृत्वा विजहार पुनस्ततः
Creating a delightful place for play, he again enjoyed himself there.
