किं करोषि शङ्खचूड संवादमनया सह
What are you doing, Śaṅkhacūḍa, conversing with her?
त्वं च पुरुषरत्नं च स्त्रीरत्नं स्त्रीष्वियं सती
You are a jewel among men, and she is a jewel among women; she is virtuous among women.
निर्विरोधसुखं राजन्को वा त्यजति दुर्लभम्
A king abandons rare happiness without conflict or trouble.
किमुपेक्षसि त्वं कान्तमीदृशं गुणिनं सती
Why do you neglect such a beloved, virtuous man, O chaste one?
यथा लक्ष्मीश्च लक्ष्मीशे यथा कृष्णे च राधिका
Just as Lakṣmī is with Lakṣmī's Lord, just as Rādhikā is with Kṛṣṇa,
यथा धरा वराहे च यथा मेना हिमालये
Just as the earth is with Varāha, just as Menā is with Himālaya,
रोहिणी च यथा चन्द्रे यथा कामे रतिः सती
Just as Rohiṇī is with the moon, just as Rati is with Kāma, O chaste one,
यथाऽहल्या गौतमे च देवहूतिश्च कर्दमे 2.16.
Just as Ahalyā is with Gautama, and Devahūti is with Kardama,
यथा च दक्षिणा यज्ञे यथा स्वाहा हुताशने
Just as Dakṣiṇā is in the sacrifice, just as Svāhā is with the fire,
देवसेना यथा स्कन्दे धर्मे मूत्तिर्यथा सती
Just as Devasenā is with Skanda, and Mūttī is with Dharma, O chaste one,
अनेन सार्द्धं सुचिरं सुन्दरेण च सुन्दरि
O beautiful one, for a long time you will be with this handsome man.
पश्चात्प्राप्स्यसि गोविन्दं गोलोके पुनरेव च
Afterwards, you will again attain Govinda in Goloka.
इत्येवमाशिषं कृत्वा स्वालयं प्रययौ विधिः
Having thus given his blessing, Brahmā returned to his own abode.
स्वर्गे दुन्दुभिवाद्यं च पुष्पवृष्टिर्बभूव ह
In heaven, there was the sound of celestial drums and a shower of flowers occurred.
मूर्च्छां सम्प्राप तुलसी नवसङ्गमसङ्गता
Tulasī, united with her new husband, fell into a swoon.
चतुःषष्टिकलामानं चतुःषष्टिविधं सुखम्
They enjoyed sixty-four kinds of pleasure, measured by the sixty-four arts.
अङ्गप्रत्यंग संश्लेषपूर्वकं स्त्रीमनोहरम्
With the embrace of limbs and sub-limbs, charming to women,
अतीव रम्येदेशे च सर्वजन्तुविवर्जिते 2.16.
In an exceedingly delightful place, devoid of all other creatures,
पुष्पोद्याने नदीतीरे पुष्पचन्दनचर्चिते
In a flower garden on the riverbank, adorned with flowers and sandalwood,
भूषितां भूषणैः सर्वैरतीव सुमनोहराम्
Adorned with all ornaments, she was exceedingly beautiful and enchanting.
जहार मानसं भर्तुर्लीलया तुलसी सती
Tulasī, the virtuous one, playfully captivated her husband's mind.
वक्षसश्चन्दनं बाह्वोस्तिलकं विजहार सा
She sported with sandalwood on his chest and tilaka on his arms.
स तद्वक्षसि तस्याश्च नखरेखां ददौ मुदा
He joyfully left the mark of her nails upon her chest.
सुरतेर्विरतौ तौ च समुत्थाय परस्परम्
When their lovemaking ceased, they both arose together.
कुङ्कुमाक्तचन्दनेन सा तस्मै तिलकं ददौ
She gave him a tilaka with sandalwood mixed with saffron.
सुवासितं च ताम्बूलं वह्निशुद्धे च वाससी
She offered him fragrant betel and garments purified by fire.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणमंगुलीयकमुत्तमम् 2.16.
And an excellent ring made of priceless jewels.
दासी तवाहमित्येवं समुच्चार्य पुनः पुनः
Saying again and again, 'I am your servant,'
सस्मिता तन्मुखांभोजं लोचनाभ्यां पपौ पुनः
Smiling, she drank in his lotus-like face with her eyes again and again.
स च तां च समाकृष्य चकार वक्षसि प्रियाम्
And he, drawing her close, placed his beloved upon his chest.
