बभूव सा मुनिश्रेष्ठ गंगा नारायणप्रिया
O best of sages, that Gaṅgā, dear to Nārāyaṇa, became so.
पुरा बभूव गोलोके सा गंगा द्रवरूपिणी
Formerly, in Goloka, that Gaṅgā existed in a liquid form.
द्रवाधिष्ठातृरूपा या रूपेणाप्रतिमा भुवि
She, who is the presiding deity of liquids, is unequalled in form on earth.
शरन्मध्याह्नपद्मास्या सस्मिता सुमनोहरा
Her face is like a lotus at midday in autumn, smiling and exceedingly beautiful.
स्निग्धप्रभाऽतिसुस्निग्धा शुद्धसत्त्वस्वरूपिणी 2.11.
Her radiance is gentle and very lustrous; she embodies pure existence.
पीनोन्नतं सुकठिनं स्तनयुग्मं सुवर्तुलम्
Her breasts are full, high, firm, and perfectly rounded.
वक्रिमं कबरीभारं मालतीमाल्यसंयुतम्
Her abundant, wavy hair is adorned with garlands of jasmine.
कस्तूरीपत्रिकायुक्तं गण्डयुग्मं मनोहरम्
Her charming cheeks are marked with musk spots.
पक्वदाडिमबीजाभदन्तपंक्तिसमुज्ज्वला
Her shining rows of teeth resemble ripe pomegranate seeds.
सा सकामा कृष्णपार्श्वे समुत्तस्थे सुलज्जिता
Desiring, she rose bashfully to Kṛṣṇa’s side.
मूर्च्छिता प्रभुरूपेण पुलकाङ्कितविग्रहा
She was unconscious, her form radiant with the marks of ecstasy.
गोपीत्रिंशत्कोटियुक्ता कोटिचन्द्रसमप्रभा
Accompanied by thirty million gopīs, her brilliance equaled that of millions of moons.
श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभा मत्तवारणगामिनी
Her glow resembled white campaka flowers, and she moved with the grace of a proud elephant.
माणिक्यखचितं हारममूल्यं वह्निशौचकम् 2.11.
She wore a priceless necklace adorned with rubies, pure as fire.
स्थलपद्मप्रभाजुष्टं कोमलं च सुरञ्जितम्
Her feet were graced by the radiance of lotus flowers, soft and delighting the gods.
रत्नेन्द्रराजखचितविमानादवरुह्य च
Descending from a celestial palace studded with the king of jewels,
कस्तूरीबिन्दुतिलकं चन्दनेन्दुसमन्वितम्
She bore a tilaka of musk, adorned with sandalwood and moon-like marks.
दधती भालमध्ये च सीमन्ताधस्तदुज्ज्वलम्
She wore it in the center of her forehead, shining brightly beneath her hairline.
सुचारुकबरीभारं कम्पयन्ती च कम्पिता
Her beautiful, abundant hair trembled, and she herself trembled as well.
गत्वा तस्थौ कृष्णपार्श्वे रत्नसिंहासने वरे
She went and stood beside Krishna, upon the splendid throne of jewels.
तां च दृष्ट्वा समुत्तस्थौ कृष्णः सादरमच्युतः
Seeing her, Krishna, the infallible one, rose respectfully.
प्रणेमुरभि संत्रस्ता गोपा नम्रात्मकन्धराः
The gopas, frightened, bowed with their necks humbly bent.
उत्थाय गंगा सहसा सम्भाषां च चकार सा
Ganga rose quickly and began to speak.
नम्रभावस्थिता त्रस्ता शुष्ककण्ठौष्ठतालुका 2.11.
She stood in a humble posture, fearful, her throat, lips, and palate dry.
तद्धृत्पद्मे स्थितः कृष्णो भीतायै चाभयं ददौ
Krishna, seated on the lotus, granted fearlessness to the frightened one.
ऊर्ध्वं सिंहासनस्थां च राधां गङ्गा ददर्श सा
Then Ganga saw Radha seated above on the throne.
असंख्यब्रह्मणामाद्यां चादिसृष्टिं सनातनीम्
She saw the primal one of countless Brahmas, the eternal origin of creation.
विश्ववृन्दे निरुपमां रूपेण च गुणेन च
Unmatched among the hosts of the universe, in both form and quality.
शुभां सुभद्रां सुभगां स्वामिसौभाग्यसंयुताम्
Auspicious, Subhadra, fortunate, endowed with the good fortune of her Lord.
कृष्णार्द्धाङ्गी कृष्णसमां तेजसा वयसा त्विषा
She was half of Krishna's body, equal to Krishna in brilliance, youth, and radiance.
