इत्युक्ते शङ्करे ब्रह्मन्गोलोके सुरसंसदि
Thus, when Śaṅkara spoke, O Brahman, in Goloka, in the assembly of the gods,
ते तं दृष्ट्वा च संहृष्टाः संस्तूय पुरुषोत्तमम्
They, seeing him, rejoiced and praised the Supreme Person.
कालेन शम्भुर्भगवाञ्छास्त्रदीपं चकार सः
In time, the blessed Śambhu composed a treatise on weapons.
सा चैवं द्रवरूपा या गङ्गा गोलोकसम्भवा
That Gaṅgā, who arose from Goloka, was then in a liquid form.
स्थाने स्थाने स्थापिता सा कृष्णेन परमात्मना
In various places, she was established by Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Soul.
नारद उवाच क्व गता सा महाभागा तन्मे व्याख्यातुमर्हसि
Nārada said: Where did that most fortunate one go? Please explain this to me.
नारायण उवाच जगाम तं च वैकुण्ठं शापान्ते पुनरेव सा
Nārāyaṇa said: When the curse ended, she returned again to that Vaikuṇṭha.
भारतं भारती त्यक्त्वा चागमत्तद्धरेः पदम्
Leaving Bhāratī in Bhārata, she went to the abode of Hari.
गङ्गा सरस्वती लक्ष्मीश्चैतास्तिस्रः प्रिया हरेः
Gaṅgā, Sarasvatī, and Lakṣmī—these three are beloved to Hari.
नारद उवाच धातुः कमण्डलुस्था च शङ्करस्य शिरोगता
Nārada said: She was in the water-pot of Brahmā and on the head of Śaṅkara.
बभूव सा मुनिश्रेष्ठ गंगा नारायणप्रिया
O best of sages, that Gaṅgā, dear to Nārāyaṇa, became so.
पुरा बभूव गोलोके सा गंगा द्रवरूपिणी
Formerly, in Goloka, that Gaṅgā existed in a liquid form.
द्रवाधिष्ठातृरूपा या रूपेणाप्रतिमा भुवि
She, who is the presiding deity of liquids, is unequalled in form on earth.
शरन्मध्याह्नपद्मास्या सस्मिता सुमनोहरा
Her face is like a lotus at midday in autumn, smiling and exceedingly beautiful.
स्निग्धप्रभाऽतिसुस्निग्धा शुद्धसत्त्वस्वरूपिणी 2.11.
Her radiance is gentle and very lustrous; she embodies pure existence.
पीनोन्नतं सुकठिनं स्तनयुग्मं सुवर्तुलम्
Her breasts are full, high, firm, and perfectly rounded.
वक्रिमं कबरीभारं मालतीमाल्यसंयुतम्
Her abundant, wavy hair is adorned with garlands of jasmine.
कस्तूरीपत्रिकायुक्तं गण्डयुग्मं मनोहरम्
Her charming cheeks are marked with musk spots.
पक्वदाडिमबीजाभदन्तपंक्तिसमुज्ज्वला
Her shining rows of teeth resemble ripe pomegranate seeds.
सा सकामा कृष्णपार्श्वे समुत्तस्थे सुलज्जिता
Desiring, she rose bashfully to Kṛṣṇa’s side.
मूर्च्छिता प्रभुरूपेण पुलकाङ्कितविग्रहा
She was unconscious, her form radiant with the marks of ecstasy.
गोपीत्रिंशत्कोटियुक्ता कोटिचन्द्रसमप्रभा
Accompanied by thirty million gopīs, her brilliance equaled that of millions of moons.
श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभा मत्तवारणगामिनी
Her glow resembled white campaka flowers, and she moved with the grace of a proud elephant.
माणिक्यखचितं हारममूल्यं वह्निशौचकम् 2.11.
She wore a priceless necklace adorned with rubies, pure as fire.
स्थलपद्मप्रभाजुष्टं कोमलं च सुरञ्जितम्
Her feet were graced by the radiance of lotus flowers, soft and delighting the gods.
रत्नेन्द्रराजखचितविमानादवरुह्य च
Descending from a celestial palace studded with the king of jewels,
कस्तूरीबिन्दुतिलकं चन्दनेन्दुसमन्वितम्
She bore a tilaka of musk, adorned with sandalwood and moon-like marks.
दधती भालमध्ये च सीमन्ताधस्तदुज्ज्वलम्
She wore it in the center of her forehead, shining brightly beneath her hairline.
सुचारुकबरीभारं कम्पयन्ती च कम्पिता
Her beautiful, abundant hair trembled, and she herself trembled as well.
गत्वा तस्थौ कृष्णपार्श्वे रत्नसिंहासने वरे
She went and stood beside Krishna, upon the splendid throne of jewels.
