तीर्थेऽप्यतीर्थे मरणे विशेषो नास्ति कश्चन
There is no distinction at all between dying at a holy place or elsewhere.
पूतं कर्तुं स शक्तो हि लीलया भुवनत्रयम्
He is able to purify the three worlds effortlessly.
मद्भक्तबान्धवा ये ये ते ते पुण्यधियः शुभे
Those who are relatives of my devotees, O auspicious one, are all virtuous in mind.
यत्र तत्र मृता ये च ज्ञानाज्ञानेन वा सति
Wherever they may die, whether knowingly or unknowingly, in any state,
इत्युक्त्वा श्रीहरिस्तां च तमुवाच भगीरथम्
Having spoken thus, Shri Hari addressed her and also spoke to Bhagiratha.
भगीरथस्तां तुष्टाव पूजयामास भक्तितः
Bhagiratha praised her and worshipped her with devotion.
श्रीकृष्णं प्रणनामाथ परमात्मानमीश्वरम् 2.10.
He then bowed to Shri Krishna, the Supreme Soul, the Lord.
नारद उवाच पूजां चकार नृपतिर्वद वेदविदां वर
Narada said: The king performed worship, O best of those versed in the Vedas.
श्रीनारायण उवाच पादौ प्रक्षाल्य चाचम्य संयतो भक्तिपूर्वकम्
Shri Narayana said: Having washed his feet and performed purification, he acted with restraint and devotion.
गणेशं च दिनेशं च वह्निं विष्णुं शिवं शिवाम्
He worshipped Ganesha, the Sun, Fire, Vishnu, Shiva, and Parvati.
गणेशं विघ्ननाशाय निष्पापाय दिवाकरम्
He worshipped Ganesha for the removal of obstacles, the sinless Sun,
शिवं ज्ञानाय तदिनां शिवां बुद्धिविवृद्धये
Shiva for knowledge, and Parvati for the increase of wisdom.
दध्यावनेन तद्ध्यानं शृणु नारद तत्त्वतः
By meditation, he contemplated them; listen, Narada, to this truth.
श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभां गङ्गां पापप्रणाशिनीम्
He meditated on Ganga, shining with the hue of white champaka flowers, destroyer of sins.
वह्निशुद्धांशुकाधानां रत्नभूषणभूषिताम्
Clad in garments purified by fire, adorned with jeweled ornaments,
ईषद्धासप्रसन्नास्यां शश्वत्सुस्थिरयौवनाम्
With a slightly smiling, cheerful face, ever in stable youth,
बिभ्रतीं कबरीभारं मालतीमाल्यसंयुताम् 2.10.
Bearing a mass of hair, adorned with a garland of jasmine flowers.
कस्तूरीपत्रकं गण्डे नानाचित्रसमन्वितम्
With musk markings on her cheeks, decorated with various designs,
मुक्तापंक्तिप्रभाजुष्टदन्तपंक्तिमनोहराम्
Her enchanting row of teeth shining with the radiance of pearls,
कठिनं श्रीफलाकारं स्तनयुग्मं च बिभ्रतीम्
Bearing a pair of breasts, firm and shaped like coconuts.
स्थलपद्मप्रभाजुष्टपादपद्मयुगंधराम्
Whose lotus feet shine with the radiance of land-born lotuses.
देवेन्द्रमौलिमन्दारमकरन्दकणारुणम्
Whose feet are tinged red by the pollen of the coral tree adorning Indra's crown.
तपस्विमौलिनिकरभ्रमरश्रेणिसंयुतम्
Whose head is adorned with lines of bees attracted to the flowers worn by ascetics.
वरां वरेण्यां वरदां भक्तानुग्रहकातराम्
Who is the best among the excellent, the giver of boons, eager to show favor to devotees.
इति ध्यानेन चानेन ध्यात्वा त्रिपथगां शुभाम्
Thus, having meditated upon the auspicious goddess of the threefold path with this contemplation,
आसनं पाद्यमर्घ्यं च स्नानीयं चानुलेपनम्
One should offer a seat, water for washing the feet, water for welcoming, water for bathing, and ointments.
वसनं भूषणं माल्यं गंधमाचमनीयकम् 2.10.
One should offer garments, ornaments, garlands, fragrance, and water for sipping.
दत्त्वा भक्त्या संप्रणमेत्स्तुत्वा तां संपुटाञ्जलिः
Having offered these with devotion, one should bow with folded hands and praise her.
स्तोत्रं वै कौथुमोक्तं च संवादं विष्णुवेधसोः
One should recite the hymn spoken by Kauthuma and the dialogue between Vishnu and Brahma.
श्रीब्रह्मोवाच विष्णो विष्णुपदीस्तोत्रं पापघ्नं पुण्यकारणम्
Brahma said: O Vishnu, the hymn to your feet destroys sin and brings merit.
