गद्गदाः साश्रुनेत्राश्च नरास्ते वैष्णवोत्तमाः गृहाद्याश्च मयि न्यस्तास्ते नराः वैष्णवोत्तमाः
Those men, best among Vaiṣṇavas, speak with trembling voices and tearful eyes; their homes and all are entrusted to me, those men, best among Vaiṣṇavas.
आब्रह्मस्तम्बपर्यन्तं मत्तः सर्वं चराचरम्
From Brahmā’s post down to the smallest blade of grass, all that moves and does not move is from me.
असंख्यकोटिब्रह्माण्डं ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवादयः
Countless millions of universes, with Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva and others,
तेजःस्वरूपं परमं भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहम्
are of the nature of radiance, supreme, and forms of grace for devotees.
सर्वे प्राकृतिका मत्त आविर्भूतास्तिरोहिताः
All beings born of nature arise from me and are withdrawn into me.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा देवेशो विरराम तयोः पुरः
Having spoken thus, the Lord of gods ceased before them.
गङ्गोवाच तवाज्ञया च राजेन्द्र तपसा चैव साम्प्रतम् ।। 2.10.
Gaṅgā said: By your command, O king, and by my austerity at this time,
यानि कानि च पापानि मह्यं दास्यन्ति पापिनः
Whatever sins the sinful will give to me,
कतिकालं परिमितं स्थितिर्मे तत्र भारते
For how long shall my stay be limited there in Bhārata?
ममान्यद्वाच्छितं यद्यत्सर्वं जानासि सर्ववित्
Whatever else I desire, you know it all, O all-knowing one.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच पतिस्ते रुद्ररूपोऽयं लवणोदो भविष्यति
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: Your husband, in the form of Rudra, will become the salt ocean.
ममैवांशः समुद्रश्च त्वं च लक्ष्मीस्वरूपिणी
The ocean is my own portion, and you are the embodiment of Lakṣmī.
यावत्त्यः सन्ति नद्यश्च भारत्याद्याश्च भारते
As many rivers as there are, Bhāratī and others, in Bhārata,
अद्यप्रभृति देवेशि कलेः पञ्च सहस्रकम्
From today, O goddess of gods, five thousand years of Kali.
नित्यं वारिधिना सार्द्धं करिष्यसि रहो रतिम्
You will always enjoy secret union with the ocean.
त्वां तोषयन्ति स्तोत्रेण भगीरथकृतेन च
They will please you with hymns composed by Bhagiratha.
ध्यानेन कौथुमोक्तेन ध्यात्वा त्वां पूजयिष्यति 2.10.
By meditating as taught by Kauthuma, they will worship you after contemplating you.
गङ्गा गङ्गेति यो ब्रूयाद्यो जनानां शतैरपि
Whoever says 'Ganga, Ganga' even among hundreds of people,
सहस्रपापिनां स्नानाद्यत्पापं ते भविष्यति
The sin from bathing of thousands of sinners will become yours.
पापिनां तु सहस्राणां शवस्पर्शेन यत्तव
And the sin from touching corpses of thousands of sinners will be yours.
यत्र यत्र भवेद्गङ्गे मन्नामगुणकीर्त्तनम्
Wherever there is Ganga, and praise of my name and qualities,
सार्द्धं सरिद्भिः श्रेष्ठाभिः सरस्वत्या दिभिः शुभे
Together with the best rivers, with Sarasvati and others, O auspicious one,
यद्रेणुस्पर्शमात्रेण पूतो भवति पातकी
By merely touching your dust, even a sinner becomes purified.
ज्ञानेन त्वयि ये भक्त्या मन्नामस्मृतिपूर्वकम्
Those who, with knowledge and devotion to you, remember my name,
पार्षदप्रवरास्ते च भविष्यन्ति हरेश्चिरम्
They will become the foremost attendants of Hari for a long time.
मृतस्य बहुपुण्येन तच्छवं त्वयि विन्यसेत्
The body of one who has died with much merit is placed upon you.
कायव्यूहं ततः कृत्वा भोजयित्वा स्वकर्मकम् 2.10.
After arranging the body and offering the prescribed rites,
अज्ञानी त्वज्जलस्पर्शाद्यदि प्राणान्समुत्सृजेत्
If an ignorant person gives up life by touching your water,
अन्यत्र वा त्यजेत्प्राणांस्त्वन्नामस्मृतिपूर्वकम्
Or elsewhere gives up life, remembering your name beforehand,
अन्यत्र वा त्यजेत्प्राणान्मन्नामस्मृतिपूर्वकम्
Or elsewhere gives up life, remembering my name beforehand,
