सगरस्य सुतान्सर्वान्पूतान्कुरु ममाज्ञया
By my command, purify all the sons of Sagara.
बिभ्रतो दिव्यमूर्त्तिं ते दिव्यस्यन्दनगामिनः
They bear divine forms, riding in celestial chariots.
कर्मभोगं समुच्छिद्य कृतं जन्मनि जन्मनि
Having ended the enjoyment of actions, accomplished in birth after birth.
गंगायाः स्पर्शवातेन नश्यतीति श्रुतौ श्रुतम्
It is heard in scripture that by the touch and wind of the Ganges, they perish.
मौसलस्नानमात्रेण सामान्यदिवसे नृणाम्
By merely bathing on the day of Mausalā, for people,
यानि कानि च पापानि ब्रह्महत्यादिकानि च
Whatever sins there are, including killing a Brahmin,
तानि सर्वाणि नश्यन्ति मौसलस्नानतो नृणाम् 2.10.
All those are destroyed for people by bathing on Mausalā day.
केचिद्वदन्ति ते देवि फलमेव यथागमम्
Some say, O goddess, that the result is just as declared in scripture.
सामान्यदिवसस्नानसङ्कल्पं शृणु सुन्दरि
Listen, O beautiful one, to the resolve for bathing on an ordinary day.
ततस्त्रिंशद्गुणं पुण्यं रविसंक्रमणे दिने
Then, on the day of the sun's transit, the merit becomes thirty times greater.
ततो दशगुणं पुण्यं नराणामुत्तरायणे
After that, during Uttarayana, the merit for people is ten times greater.
अक्षयायां च तत्तुल्यं नैतद्वेदे निरूपितम्
On Akshaya day, it is equal, but this is not established in the Vedas.
सामान्यदिवसे स्नानं ध्यानाच्छतगुणं फलम्
On an ordinary day, the fruit of bathing with meditation is a hundred times greater.
माघस्य सितसप्तम्यां भीष्माष्टम्यांतथैव च
On the bright seventh of Magha, and likewise on Bhishma Ashtami,
ततोऽपि द्विगुणं पुण्यं नन्दायां तव दुर्लभम्
Even greater, twice the merit, is found on Nanda, which is rare for you.
नन्दासमं च वारुण्यां महत्पूर्वं चतुर्गुणम्
Equal to Nanda is Varuni, and previously, the merit is four times greater.
पुण्यं कोटिगुणं चैव सामान्यस्नानतो भवेत् 2.10.
The merit becomes ten million times greater than an ordinary bath.
पुण्येऽप्यर्द्धोदये काले ततः शतगुणं फलम्
Even at the time of partial sunrise, the fruit is a hundred times greater.
फलसन्धानरहिता जीवन्मुक्ताश्च वैष्णवाः
Those who are Vaishnavas, liberated while living, are without desire for fruit.
गुरुवक्त्राद्विष्णुमन्त्रो यस्य कर्णे विशेत्परः
When the supreme Vishnu mantra enters the ear from the mouth of the guru,
पुरुषाणां शतं पूर्वं पैतृकं च परं शतम्
A hundred men before, and a hundred ancestors thereafter,
भगिनीं भ्रातरं चैव भागिनेयं च मातुलम्
A sister, a brother, a nephew, and a maternal uncle,
गुरुं च ज्ञानदातारं मित्रं च सहचारिणम्
The guru, the giver of knowledge, a friend, and a companion,
उद्धरेदात्मना सार्द्धं मन्त्रग्रहणमात्रतः
Are uplifted together by the mere act of receiving the mantra.
तस्य संस्पर्शनात्पूतं तीर्थं च भुवि भारते
By touching him, the holy place in Bharat is purified.
पादोदकस्थानमिदं तीर्थमेव भवेद्ध्रुवम्
This place of foot-water surely becomes a holy site.
खादन्ति नो वैष्णवाश्च सदा नैवेद्यभोजिनः 2.10.
Vaiṣṇavas, who always partake of offerings, do not eat otherwise.
पूतानि सर्वतीर्थानि तेषां च स्पर्शनादहो
All sacred waters are purified by their touch, indeed.
तत्पापानि पलायन्ते वैनतेयादिवोरगाः
Their sins flee, just as serpents before Garuḍa.
विष्णोः सुदर्शनं चक्रं सन्ततं तांश्च रक्षति
Viṣṇu’s Sudarśana disc constantly protects them.
