सृष्टीनां च कलानां च ब्रह्माण्डानां च नारद
O Narada, concerning the creations, the divisions of time, and the universes,
ब्रह्माण्डानां च सर्वेषामीश्वरश्चैक एव सः
He alone is the Lord of all the universes.
ब्रह्मादयश्च तस्यांशास्तस्यांशश्च महाविराट्
Brahma and the others are his portions, and Mahāvirāṭ is also a portion of his portion.
स च कृष्णो द्विधाभूतो द्विभुजश्च चतुर्भुजः
That Krishna appears in two forms: with two arms and with four arms.
ब्रह्मादितृणपर्य्यन्तं सर्वं प्राकृतिकं भवेत्
Everything from Brahma down to the blade of grass is of the nature of Prakriti.
विद्ध्येकं सृष्टिमूलं तत्सत्यं नित्यं सनातनम्
Know that the one root of creation is true, eternal, and everlasting.
निरुपाधिं निराकारं भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहम्
It is without attributes, without form, yet assumes a form to show grace to devotees.
द्विभुजं मुरलीहस्तं गोपवेषं किशोरकम्
He is two-armed, holding a flute, dressed as a cowherd, and youthful.
करोति धाता ब्रह्माण्डं ज्ञानात्मा कम लोद्भवः 2.7.
The creator, born from the lotus, whose essence is knowledge, fashions the universe.
यस्य ज्ञानाद्यत्तपसा सर्वेशस्तत्समो महान्
By whose knowledge and austerity the Lord of all arises, and none is greater than him.
महामाया च प्रकृतिः सर्वशक्तिमतीश्वरी
Mahāmāyā is Prakriti, the supreme goddess endowed with all powers.
सावित्री वेदमाता च वेदाधिष्ठातृदेवता
Savitri is the mother of the Vedas and the presiding deity of the Vedas.
सर्वविद्याधिदेवी सा पूज्या च विदुषां पुरा
She is the goddess presiding over all knowledge and is revered by the wise since ancient times.
यत्सेवया यत्तपसा प्रदात्री सर्वसंपदाम्
By whose service and austerity, she grants all wealth.
यत्सेवया यत्तपसा सर्वविश्वेषु पूजिता
By whose service and by whose austerity she was worshipped among all the worlds,
सर्वेश्वरी सर्ववन्द्या सर्वेशं प्राप या पतिम्
The sovereign of all, worthy of reverence by all, who obtained the Lord of all as her husband,
कृष्णवामांशसम्भूता कृष्णप्रेमाधिदेवता
Born from the left portion of Krishna, she is the presiding deity of Krishna's love,
सर्वाधिकं च रूपं च सौभाग्यं मानगौरवम् 2.7.
She possesses surpassing beauty, good fortune, and honored dignity.
तपश्चकार सा पूर्वं शतशृङ्गे च पर्वते
Formerly, she performed austerities on the mountain called Shataśṛṅga,
कृशां निःश्वासरहितां दृष्ट्वा चन्द्रकलोपमाम्
Seeing her emaciated, breathless, yet resembling a digit of the moon,
वरं तस्यै ददौ सारं सर्वेषामपि दुर्लभम्
He granted her a boon, the essence, rare even among all,
सौभाग्येन च मानेन प्रेम्णा वै गौरवेण च
With good fortune, honor, love, and dignity,
वरिष्ठा च गरिष्ठा च संस्तुता पूजिता मया
She became the most excellent and the most revered, praised and worshipped by me.
इत्युक्त्वा जगतां नाथश्चक्रे तच्चेतनां ततः
Having thus spoken, the Lord of the worlds then created that consciousness.
येषां या याश्च देव्यो वै पूजितास्तस्य सेवया
The goddesses who were worshipped by those whose service she received,
दिव्यं वर्षसहस्रं च तपस्तप्त्वा हिमालये
Having performed austerity for a thousand divine years on the Himalaya,
सरस्वती तपस्तप्त्वा पर्वते गन्धमादने
Sarasvati performed austerity on Mount Gandhamadana,
लक्ष्मीर्युगशतं दिव्यं तपस्तप्त्वा च पुष्करे 2.7.
Lakshmi performed divine austerity for a hundred ages at Pushkara,
सावित्री मलये तप्त्वा द्विजपूज्या बभूव सा
Savitri, having performed austerity at Malaya, became worthy of worship by the twice-born.
शतमन्वन्तरं तप्तं शंकरेण पुरा विभो
In ancient times, Shankara performed austerity for a hundred manvantaras, O Lord.
