भारती भारतं गत्वा ब्राह्मी च ब्रह्मणः प्रिया
Bhāratī went to Bhārata, and Brāhmī, the beloved of Brahmā,
सर्वं विश्वं परिव्याप्य स्रोतस्येव हि दृश्यते
Having pervaded the entire universe, she appears like a stream.
सरस्वती नदी सा च तीर्थरूपाऽतिपावनी
That Sarasvatī is a river, in the form of a sacred place, supremely purifying.
पश्चाद्भगीरथानीता महीं भागीरथी शुभा
Afterwards, brought by Bhagiratha, the auspicious Bhāgīrathī came to earth.
तत्रैव समये तां च दधार शिरसा शिवः
At that very moment, Shiva placed her upon his head.
पद्मा जगाम कलया सा च पद्मावती नदी
Padma departed in her form, and became the river Padmavati.
ततोऽन्यया सा कलया चालभज्जन्म भारते
Then, by another form, she took birth in Bharata.
पुरा सरस्वतीशापात्तत्पश्चाद्धरिशापतः
Formerly, by Sarasvati's curse, and afterwards by Hari's curse,
कलेः पञ्चसहस्रं च वर्षं स्थित्वा च भारते 2.7.
After remaining in Bharata for five thousand years of Kali,
यानि सर्वाणि तीर्थानि काशीं वृन्दावनं विना
All the sacred places, except Kashi and Vrindavana,
शालग्रामो हरेर्मूर्त्तिर्जगन्नाथश्च भारतम्
Shalagrama, the form of Hari, and Jagannatha in Bharata,
वैष्णवाश्च पुराणानि शङ्खाश्च श्राद्धतर्पणम्
The Vaishnava Puranas, conch shells, rites of shraddha and tarpan,
हरिपूजा हरेर्नाम तत्कीर्त्तिगुणकीर्त्तनम्
Worship of Hari, the name of Hari, praise of his deeds and virtues,
सत्त्वं च सत्यं धर्मश्च वेदाश्च ग्राम्यदेवताः
Goodness, truth, righteousness, the Vedas, and village deities,
वामाचाररताः सर्वे मिथ्याकापट्यसंयुताः
All are devoted to left-handed practices, filled with falsehood and deceit.
एकादशीविहीनाश्च सर्वे धर्मविवर्जिताः
All are devoid of the observance of Ekadashi, and bereft of righteousness.
शठाः क्रूरा दाम्भिकाश्च महाहङ्कारसंयुताः
They are deceitful, cruel, hypocritical, and possessed of great arrogance.
पुंसां भेदस्तथा स्त्रीणां विवाहो वादनिर्णयः
There is division among men, and among women, marriage and disputes.
सर्वे जनाः स्त्रीवशाश्च पुंश्चल्यश्च गृहे गृहे 2.7.
All people are under the sway of women, and in every house, there is promiscuity.
गृहेश्वरी च गृहिणी गृही भृत्याधिकोऽधमः
The mistress of the house is the wife; the husband is inferior to the servant.
कर्त्तारो बलिनो गेहे योनिसम्बन्धिबान्धवाः
Those who act powerfully in the home are relatives connected by birth.
यथा परिचिता लोकास्तथा पुंसश्च बान्धवाः
Just as people are acquainted, so too are a man's relatives.
ब्रह्मक्षत्त्रियविट्शूद्रा जात्या चारविनिर्णयः
Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras are determined by birth and conduct.
म्लेच्छाचारा भविष्यन्ति वर्णाश्चत्वार एव च ब्रह्मक्षत्रविशां वंशाः शूद्राणां सेवकाः कलौ
The four varnas will adopt the ways of mlecchas, and the lineages of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas will serve the Shudras in the Kali age.
सूपकारा भविष्यन्ति धावका वृषवाहकाः
They will become cooks, runners, and bullock-cart drivers.
फलहीनाश्च तरवोऽपत्यहीनाश्च योषितः
The trees will be without fruit, and women will be without children.
दम्पती प्रीतिहीनौ च गृहिणः सुखवर्जिताः
Husbands and wives will lack affection, and householders will be deprived of happiness.
जलहीना नदा नद्यो दीर्घिकाः कन्दरादयः
Rivers, streams, ponds, and caves will be without water.
लक्षेषु पुण्यवान्कोऽपि न तिष्ठति ततः परम् 2.7.
Among hundreds of thousands, not even one virtuous person will remain thereafter.
कुवार्त्ताः कुत्सितपथा भविष्यन्ति ततः परम्
After that, there will be wicked occupations and disgraceful ways.
