भारतं भारतीशापाद्यास्यामि कलया यदि
If, by the curse of Bhāratī, I go to Bhārata in a portion of myself,
दास्यन्ति पापिनः पापं मह्यं स्नानावगाहनात्
then sinners will give their sins to me by bathing and immersing themselves.
कलया तुलसीरूपा धर्मध्वजसुता सती
By a portion of myself, I will become Tulasī, the virtuous daughter of Dharmadhvaja.
वृक्षरूपा भविष्यामि तदधिष्ठातृदेवता
I will become in the form of a tree, the presiding deity over it.
गंगा सरस्वतीशापाद्यदि यास्यति भारतम्
If, by the curse of Sarasvatī, Gaṅgā goes to Bhārata,
गंगाशापेन सा वाणी यदि यास्यति भारतम् 2.6.
If, by the curse of Gaṅgā, Sarasvatī goes to Bhārata,
तां वाणीं ब्रह्मसदनं गंगां वा शिवमन्दिरम्
then let Sarasvatī go to the abode of Brahmā, or Gaṅgā to the temple of Śiva.
इत्युक्त्वा कमला कान्तपदं धृत्वा ननाम च
Having spoken thus, Lakṣmī, holding the feet of her beloved, bowed down.
उवाच पद्मनाभस्तां प्रभां कृत्वा स्ववक्षसि
Padmanābha spoke to her, drawing her radiance to his own chest.
नारायण उवाच समतां च करिष्यामि शृणु तत्क्रममेव च
Nārāyaṇa said: I will bring about equality; listen now to the sequence of events.
भारती यातु कलया सरिद्रूपा च भारतम्
Let Bhāratī go in a portion of herself, and as a river, to Bhārata.
भगीरथेन नीता सा गंगा यास्यति भारतम्
That Gaṅgā, brought by Bhagīratha, will go to Bhārata.
तत्रैव चन्द्रमौलेश्च मौलिं प्राप्स्यति दुर्लभम्
There, she will attain the rare crown of the moon-crested Lord.
कलांशांशेन गच्छ त्वं भारते कमलोद्भवे
You, O lotus-born one, go to Bhārata with a portion of your energy.
कलेः पञ्चसहस्रे च गते वर्षे च मोक्षणम्
When five thousand years of Kali have passed, there will be liberation.
सम्पदां हेतुभूता च विपत्तिः सर्वदेहिनाम् 2.6.
Calamity, which is the cause of prosperity, will befall all embodied beings.
मन्मन्त्रोपासकानां च सतां स्नानावगाहनात्
For those devoted to worship with my mantra, by bathing and immersion,
पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि सन्त्यसंख्यानि सुन्दरि
O beautiful one, the holy places on earth are innumerable.
मन्मन्त्रोपासका भक्ता भ्रमन्ते भारते सति
Those who worship Me with mantra and devotion wander throughout Bharata when it exists.
मद्भक्ता यत्र तिष्ठन्ति पादं प्रक्षालयन्ति च
Wherever My devotees reside and wash their feet,
स्त्रीघ्नो गोघ्नः कृतघ्नश्च ब्रह्मघ्नो गुरुतल्पगः
A killer of women, a killer of cows, an ungrateful person, a killer of Brahmins, and one who violates the teacher’s bed,
एकादशीविहीनश्च सन्ध्याहीनोऽपि नास्तिकः
One who neglects the Ekadashi vow, who omits the twilight worship, and even an atheist,
असिजीवी मषीजीवी धावकः शूद्रयाजकः
One who lives by the sword, one who lives by ink, a runner, and a Shudra who performs sacrifices,
विश्वासघाती मित्रघ्नो मिथ्यासाक्ष्यप्रदायकः
A betrayer of trust, a destroyer of friendship, and one who gives false testimony,
ऋणग्रस्तो वार्द्धुषिको जारजः पुंश्चलीपतिः
One overwhelmed by debt, a usurer, an adulterer, and the husband of a promiscuous woman,
शूद्राणां सूपकारश्च देवलो ग्रामयाजकः 2.6.
A cook for Shudras, a temple priest, and a village priest for sacrifices,
अश्वत्थघातकश्चैव मद्भक्तानां च निन्दकः
One who destroys the sacred fig tree and one who reviles My devotees,
मातरं पितरं भार्य्यां भ्रातरं तनयं सुताम्
One who does not support his mother, father, wife, brother, son, or daughter,
श्वश्रूं च श्वशुरं चैव यो न पुष्णाति नारद
And one who does not support his mother-in-law and father-in-law, O Narada,
देवद्रव्यापहारी च विप्रद्रव्यापहारकः
One who steals offerings meant for the gods or for Brahmins,
