क्षणं ददर्श पञ्चास्यं शुभ्रवर्णं त्रिलोचनम्
For a moment she saw the five-faced, fair-complexioned, three-eyed one.
क्षणं ददर्श श्यामं तमेकास्यं च द्विलोचनम्
For a moment she saw the dark-complexioned, single-faced, two-eyed one.
मदंशाश्च त्रयो देवा ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेश्वराः 4.6.
The three gods—Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara—are portions of pride.
दृष्ट्वा तं पार्वती भक्त्या पुलकांचितविग्रहा
Seeing him, Pārvatī, with devotion, her body thrilled with joy.
दुर्गांतराभिप्रायं च बुबुधे शंकरः स्वयम्
Śaṃkara himself understood the inner intention of Durgā.
दुर्गां निर्जनमाहूय तामुवाच हरः स्वयम्
Śaṃkara himself called Durgā aside in solitude and spoke to her.
अहं ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च ब्रह्मैकं च सनातनम्
I, Brahmā, and Viṣṇu are all one eternal Brahman.
एका प्रकृतिः सर्वेषां माता त्वं सर्वरूपिणी
There is one Prakṛti for all; you are the mother, manifest in every form.
मम वक्षसि दुर्गा त्वं निबोधाध्यात्मकं सति
Durgā, you reside upon my chest; understand this as the spiritual truth, O Sati.
सुचिरं तपसा लब्धो नाथस्त्वं जगतां मया
For a long time, through austerity, I have obtained you as the lord of the worlds.
मादृशीं किंकरी नाथ न परित्यक्तुमर्हसि
O Lord, you should not abandon a servant like me.
तव वाक्यं महादेव करिष्याम्येव पालनम् 4.6.
O great god, I will indeed uphold your command.
इत्येवं वचनं श्रुत्वा विरराम महेश्वरः
Hearing these words, Maheśvara ceased.
तत्प्रतिज्ञापालनाय पार्वती जांबवद्गृहे
To fulfill that vow, Pārvatī was born in the house of Jāmbavat.
ललाभ भारते जन्म निंदिते भाल्लुके गृहे
She took birth in Bhārata, in the house of the despised Bhalluka.
हिमालयांशो भल्लूको जांबवान्नाम किंकरः
Bhallūka, a portion of Himālayā, was the servant named Jāmbavat.
रामस्य वरदानेन चिरंजीवी श्रिया युतः
By Rāma's boon, he became long-lived and endowed with prosperity.
सर्वेषां च सुराणां वै वंशा गच्छंतु भूतलम्
Let the lineages of all the gods descend to the earth.
कमलाकलया सर्वा भवंतु नृपकन्यकाः
By the portion of Kamalā, let all become daughters of kings.
धर्मोऽयमंशरूपेण पांडुपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः
Dharma, in the form of a portion, is Yudhiṣṭhira, son of Pāṇḍu.
नकुलः सहदेवश्च स्वर्वैद्यांशसमुद्भवौ । सृर्यांशः कर्णवीरश्च विदुरः स यमः स्वयम् ।। 4.6.
Nakula and Sahadeva are born from portions of the twin Ashvins; Karṇa, the heroic one, is a portion of Sūrya; Vidura is Yama himself.
दुर्योधनः कलेरंशः समुद्रांशश्च शंतनुः
Duryodhana is a portion of Kali, and Śaṃtanu is a portion of the ocean.
हुताशनांशो भगवान्धृष्टद्युम्नो महाबलः
The blessed Dhṛṣṭadyumna, of great strength, is a portion of the fire-god.
वसुदेवः कश्यपांशोऽप्यदित्यंशा च देवकी
Vasudeva is a portion of Kaśyapa, and Devakī is a portion of the Ādityas.
द्रौपदी कमलांशा च यज्ञकुंडसमुद्भवा
Draupadī, a portion of Kamalā, was born from the sacrificial altar.
देवा गच्छंतु पृथिवीमंशेन भारहारकाः
Let the gods go to earth as portions, to relieve its burden.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा भगवान्विरराम च नारद
Having spoken thus, the blessed one, Nārada, ceased.
कृष्णस्य वामे वाग्देवी दक्षिणे कमलालया
On Kṛṣṇa's left is the goddess of speech, on his right is Kamalā.
गोप्यो गोपाश्च परितो राधा वक्षःस्थलस्थिता
The gopīs and gopas stood all around, while Rādhā remained at your chest.
शृणु नाथ प्रवक्ष्यामि किंकरीवचनं प्रभो
Listen, Lord, I will now speak the words of the maidservant, O Master.
