अंशेन प्रतिविध्यण्डे त्वं च पुत्र विराड् भव
By a portion, become Virāṭ, O son, in each separate universe.
ललाटे ब्रह्मणश्चैव रुद्राश्चैकादशैव तु
On the forehead of Brahmā, and also eleven Rudras,
कालाग्निरुद्रस्तेष्वेको विश्वसंहारकारकः
Among them, Kālāgnirudra is the one who brings about the destruction of the universe.
मद्भक्तियुक्तः सततं भविष्यसि वरेण मे
By my boon, you will always be endowed with devotion to me.
मातरं कमनीयां च मम वक्षःस्थलस्थिताम्
My beautiful mother, resting upon my chest.
गत्वा च नाकं ब्रह्माणं शङ्करं स उवाच ह
He went to heaven and spoke to Brahma and Shankara.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच महाविराड् लोमकूपे क्षुद्रस्य च विधेः शृणु
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: Listen, in the pore of the great Virāṭ, and of the small creator.
गच्छ वत्स महादेव ब्रह्मभालोद्भवो भव
Go, child, O Mahādeva, become born from the forehead of Brahma.
इत्युक्त्वा जगतां नाथो विरराम विधेः सुतः 2.3.
Having spoken thus, the Lord of the worlds, the son of the creator, became silent.
महाविराड् लोमकूपे ब्रह्माण्डे गोलके जले
In the pore of the great Virāṭ, within the cosmic egg, in the sphere of water.
श्यामो युवा पीतवासाः शयानो जलतल्पके
Dark, youthful, clad in yellow garments, lying upon a watery couch.
तन्नाभिकमले ब्रह्मा बभूव कमलोद्भवः
From his navel-lotus, Brahma was born, sprung from the lotus.
नान्तं जगाम दण्डस्य पद्मनाभस्य पद्मजः
The lotus-born could not reach the end of the stalk of Padmanābha.
स्वस्थानं पुनरागत्य दध्यौ कृष्णपदाम्बुजम्
Returning to his own place, he meditated upon the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa.
शयानं जलतल्पे च ब्रह्माण्डपिण्डमावृते
Lying on the watery couch, enveloped by the cosmic egg.
श्रीकृष्णं चापि गोलोकं गोपगोपीसमन्वितम्
Śrī Kṛṣṇa, in Goloka, surrounded by cowherds and cowherd maidens.
बभूवुर्ब्रह्मणः पुत्रा मानसाः सनकादयः
The mind-born sons of Brahma, Sanaka and others, came into being.
बभूव पाता विष्णुश्च वामे क्षुद्रस्य पार्श्वतः
Viṣṇu appeared in Pātāla, on the left side of the small creator.
क्षुद्रस्य नाभिपद्मे च ब्रह्मा विश्वं ससर्ज सः 2.3.
In the navel-lotus of the small creator, Brahma created the universe.
एवं सर्वं लोमकूपे विश्वं प्रत्येकमेव च
Thus, in every pore, the entire universe exists individually.
इत्येवं कथितं वत्स कृष्णसङ्कीर्त्तनं शुभम्
Thus, O child, the auspicious narration of Kṛṣṇa has been told.
नारद उवाच अधुना प्रकृतीनां च व्यासं वर्णय भो प्रभो
Nārada said: Now, O Lord, describe the origin of the Prakṛtis.
कस्याः पूजा कृता केन कथं मर्त्ये प्रका शिता
Whose worship was performed, by whom, and how was it made known among mortals?
कवचं स्तोत्रकं ध्यानं प्रभावं चरितं शुभम्
Her protective hymn, praise, meditation, power, and auspicious deeds—
नारायण उवाच सावित्री वै सृष्टिविधौ प्रकृतिः पञ्चधा स्मृता
Nārāyaṇa said: Sāvitrī, in the act of creation, is remembered as Nature in fivefold form.
आसीत्पूज्या प्रसिद्धा च प्रभावः परमाद्भुतः
She was revered, renowned, and her power was supremely wondrous.
प्रकृत्यंशाः कला याश्च तासां च चरितं शुभम्
The portions and aspects of Nature, and their auspicious deeds—
वाणी वसुन्धरा गङ्गा षष्ठी मङ्गलच ण्डिका
Vāṇī, Vasundharā, Gaṅgā, Ṣaṣṭhī, and Maṅgalacaṇḍikā—
तेजसा मत्समास्ताश्च रूपेण च गुणेन च
All these are equal to me in brilliance, form, and quality.
संक्षेपमासां चरितं पुण्यदं अतिसुन्दरम्
Their deeds, briefly told, are meritorious and exceedingly beautiful.
