कालचक्रं भ्रमत्येव मदीयं च दिवानिशम्
The wheel of time ever revolves, day and night, and so does mine.
कीर्तिः पृथ्व्यां पुण्यमद्य कथामात्रावशेषितम्
Today, fame and virtue on earth remain only as stories.
बभूवुर्बहवो भूमौ महाबल पराक्रमाः
Many have arisen on earth, possessing great strength and valor.
उपस्थितोऽपि कालोऽयं वातो वाति निरंतरम्
Even though time has arrived, the wind blows ceaselessly.
व्याधयः संति देहेषु मृत्युश्चरति जंतुषु
Diseases dwell in bodies, and death moves among living beings.
ब्राह्मण्यनिष्ठा विप्राश्च तपोनिष्ठास्तपोधनाः 4.6.
The twice-born who are steadfast in Brahman, and the ascetics devoted to austerity, are rich in penance.
ते सर्वे मद्भयाद्भीताः स्वकर्मधर्मतत्पराः
All of them, out of fear of me, are devoted to their own prescribed duties and righteous actions.
देवाः कालस्य कालोऽहं विधाता धातुरेव च
Among the gods, I am Time itself; I am the creator, and indeed the sustainer.
ममाज्ञयाऽयं संहर्ता नाम्रा तेन हरः स्मृतः
By my command, he is the destroyer; thus he is called Hara.
ब्रह्मादितृणपर्यन्तं सर्वेषामहमीश्वरः
From Brahma down to a blade of grass, I am the Lord of all.
अहं यान्संहरिष्यामि कस्तेषामपि रक्षिता
Those whom I wish to destroy—who among them can be their protector?
सर्वेषामपि संहर्ता स्रष्टा पाताऽहमेव च
Of all, I alone am the destroyer, the creator, and the sustainer.
भक्ता ममानुगा नित्यं मत्पादार्चनतत्पराः
My devotees follow me always, intent on worshipping my feet.
सर्वे नश्यंति ब्रह्माण्डे प्रभवंति पुनःपुनः
All things in the universe perish and come into being again and again.
अतो विपश्चितः सर्वे दास्यं वांछंति नो वरम्
Therefore, all the wise desire only servitude to me, not any other boon.
जन्ममृत्युजराव्याधि भयं च यमयातना 4.6.
Birth, death, old age, disease, fear, and the torments of Yama—
भक्ता न लिप्ताः पापेषु पुण्येषु सर्वक र्मिणः
My devotees are untouched by sins or merits, though they perform all actions.
अहं प्राणश्च भक्तानां भक्ताः प्राणा ममापि च
I am the very life of my devotees, and my devotees are my very life as well.
चक्रं सुदर्शनं नाम षोडशारं सुतीक्ष्णकम्
The discus named Sudarshana has sixteen spokes and is exceedingly sharp.
भक्तान्तिके तु तच्चक्रं दत्त्वा रक्षार्थमीप्सितम्
For the sake of protection, that discus is given to the devotee who is near.
न मे स्वास्थ्यं च वैकुंठे गोलोके राधिकांतिके
I have no peace in Vaikuntha, nor in Goloka, nor even beside Radhika.
प्राणेभ्यः प्रेयसी राधा स्थितोरसि दिवानिशम्
Dearer than life is Radha, who dwells constantly upon my chest, day and night.
भक्तदत्तं च यद्द्रव्यं भक्त्या ऽश्नामि सुरेश्वराः
O lords of the gods, whatever offering is given to me by a devotee, I partake of it with devotion.
स्त्रीपुत्रस्वजनांस्त्यक्त्वा ध्यायंते मामहर्निशम्
Abandoning wife, children, and relatives, they meditate upon me day and night.
दुष्टा यदा मे भक्तानां ब्राह्मणानां गवामपि
Whenever wicked ones harm my devotees, the brāhmaṇas, or even the cows,
तथाऽचिरं ते नश्यंति यथा वह्नौ तृणानि च 4.6.
they are quickly destroyed, just as grass is consumed in fire.
यास्यामि पृथिवीं देवा यात यूयं स्वमालयम्
O gods, I shall go to the earth; you all return to your own abodes.
इत्युक्त्वा जगतां नाथो गोपाना हूय गोपिकाः
Having spoken thus, the Lord of the worlds summoned the cowherds and the cowherd women.
गोपा गोप्यश्च शृणुत यात नंदव्रजं परम्
O cowherds and cowherd women, listen: go to the supreme Nanda’s Vraja.
वृषभानुप्रिया साध्वी नंदगोपकलावती
The virtuous beloved of Vṛṣabhānu, adorned with the qualities of Nanda the cowherd,
