स्थलं सर्वं जलाकीर्णं हीनराधाहरिं तथा
The whole place was flooded with water, and bereft of Rādhā and Hari.
ध्यानेन धाता बुबुधे सर्वमेतदभीप्सितम्
By meditation, the Creator understood all that was desired.
ततो ब्रह्मादयः सर्वे तुष्टुवुः परमेश्वरम्
Then all the foremost Brahmās praised the Supreme Lord.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे तत्र वाग्बभूवाशरीरिणी
At that moment, there arose there a bodiless voice.
सर्वात्माऽहमियं शक्तिर्भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहा
I am the Self of all, I am that Power, the embodiment of grace to devotees.
मनवो मानवाः सर्वे मुनयश्चैव वैष्णवाः 2.10.
All Manus, all men, and the sages who are Vaiṣṇavas,
मूर्तिं द्रष्टुं च सुव्यग्रा यूयं यदि सुरेश्वराः
If you, O lords of the gods, are eager to see the form,
स्वयं विधाता त्वं ब्रह्मन्नाज्ञां कुरु जगद्गुरो
Then you yourself, O Brahmā, creator and teacher of the world, give the command.
अपूर्वमन्त्रनिकरैः सर्वाभीष्टफलप्रदैः
With unprecedented collections of mantras that grant all desired fruits.
मन्मन्त्रं कवचं स्तोत्रं कृत्वा यत्नेन गोपय
Having composed the mantra, the protective charm, and the hymn, guard them diligently.
सहस्रेषु शतेष्वेको मन्मन्त्रोपासको भवेत्
Among thousands and hundreds, only one becomes a worshipper of my mantra.
अन्यथा च भविष्यन्ति सर्वे गोलोकवासिनः
Otherwise, all will become residents of Goloka.
जनाः पञ्चप्रकाराश्च युक्ताः स्रष्टुर्भवे भवे
People of five kinds, endowed in each creation by the Creator.
अधोनिवासिनः केचिद्ब्रह्मलोकनिवासिनः
Some dwell below, others reside in the world of Brahma.
इदं कर्तुं महादेवः करोतु सुरसंसदि
Let Mahadeva accomplish this in the assembly of the gods.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा गगने विरराम सनातनः 2.10.
Having spoken thus, Sanātana ceased in the sky.
ब्रह्मणो वचनं श्रुत्वा ज्ञानेशो ज्ञानिनां वरः
Hearing Brahma's words, the lord of knowledge, best among the wise,
संयुक्तं विष्णुमायाद्यैर्मन्त्राद्यैः शास्त्रमुत्तमम्
With mantras and other elements joined with Viṣṇu's Māyā, the supreme scripture.
गंगातोयमुपस्पृश्य मिथ्या यदि वदेज्जनः
If a person, after touching Ganga's water, speaks falsely,
इत्युक्ते शङ्करे ब्रह्मन्गोलोके सुरसंसदि
Thus addressed by Śaṅkara, O Brahma, in Goloka among the gods,
ते तं दृष्ट्वा च संहृष्टाः संस्तूय पुरुषोत्तमम्
Seeing him, they rejoiced and praised the Supreme Person.
कालेन शम्भुर्भगवाञ्छास्त्रदीपं चकार सः
In time, the blessed Śambhu made the lamp of scripture.
सा चैवं द्रवरूपा या गङ्गा गोलोकसम्भवा
That Ganga, originating from Goloka, is indeed fluid in form.
स्थाने स्थाने स्थापिता सा कृष्णेन परमात्मना
She was established in various places by Krishna, the Supreme Soul.
नारद उवाच तुलस्या केन रूपेण तन्मे व्याख्यातुमर्हसि
Nārada said: By what form did Tulasī appear? Please explain that to me.
नारायण उवाच शंखचूडस्य रूपेण रेमे तद्रामया सह
Nārāyaṇa said: She delighted in the form of Śaṅkhacūḍa, together with his beloved.
शंखचूडस्य कवचं गृहीत्वा मायया हरिः
Hari, by his illusion, took the armor of Shankhacuda.
दुन्दुभिं वादयामास तुलसीद्वारसन्निधौ
He began to sound the drum in the presence of the doorway of Tulasi.
तच्छ्रुत्वा सा च साध्वी च परमानन्दसंयुता
Hearing that, the virtuous lady was filled with supreme joy.
ब्राह्मणेभ्यो धनं दत्त्वा कारयामास मङ्गलम्
She gave wealth to the Brahmins and arranged for auspicious rites.
