दृष्ट्वा च दूरतो राधा श्रीकृष्णं प्राणवल्लभम् । शिशुवेषं सुवेषं च सुन्दरेशं च सस्मितम्
From a distance, Rādhā beheld Śrī Kṛṣṇa, her beloved, in the guise of a beautifully adorned child, the Lord of Beauty, smiling.
नवींनजलदश्यामं पींतकौशेयवाससम् । चन्दनोक्षितसर्वाङ्गं रत्नभूषणभूषितम्
His complexion was like a fresh raincloud, clad in yellow silk, his entire body anointed with sandalwood, adorned with jeweled ornaments.
मयूरपिच्छचूडं च मालतीमाल्यशोभितम् । ईषद्धास्यप्रसन्नास्यं भक्तानुप्रहविग्रहम्
He wore a peacock feather crown, beautified with garlands of jasmine, his face gently smiling and serene, his form a delight to devotees.
क्रीडाकमलमम्लानं धृतवन्तं मनोहरम् । मुरलीहस्तविन्यस्तं सुप्रशस्तं च दर्पणम्
He held a play-lotus, ever fresh and charming, a splendid mirror set in his hand with the flute, captivating to behold.
जवेन च समुत्थाय गोपीभिः सह सादरम् । प्रणम्य परया भक्त्या तुष्टाव परमेश्वरम्
Rising swiftly with the gopīs, she respectfully bowed with supreme devotion and praised the Supreme Lord.
राधिकोवाच अद्य मे सफलं जन्मजीवितं च सुजीवितम् । यद्दृष्ट्वा मुखचन्द्रं ते सुस्निग्धं लोचनं मनः
Rādhikā said: Today my birth and life are fulfilled and well-lived, for I have seen your moon-like face, so tender to the eyes and mind.
पञ्च प्राणाश्च स्निग्धाश्च परमात्मा च सुप्रियः । उभयोर्हर्षबीजं च दुर्लभं बन्धुदर्शनम्
The five vital airs, full of affection, and the dearest Supreme Self—seeing a beloved after long separation is rare and the seed of joy for both.
शोकार्णवे निमग्नाऽहं प्रदग्धा विरहानलैः । त्वद्दृष्ट्याऽमृतवृष्ट्या च सुसिक्ताऽद्य सुशीतला
I was plunged in an ocean of sorrow, scorched by the fire of separation; but by your sight, the nectar-rain, I am today thoroughly cooled and refreshed.
शिवा शिवप्रदाऽहं च शिवबीजा त्वया सह । शि (श) व स्वरूपा निश्चेष्टाऽप्यदृश्या च त्वया विना
I am auspicious and bestow auspiciousness, the seed of auspiciousness with you; my very form is 'śi' and 'va', motionless and unseen without you.
त्वयि तिष्ठति देहे च देही श्रीमाञ्छुचिः स्वयम् । सर्वशक्तिस्वरूपा च शिवरूपा गते त्वयि
When you dwell in the body, the embodied one is glorious and pure, the very form of all powers and of Śiva; but when you depart—
स्त्रीपुंसो विंरहो नाथसामान्यश्च सुदारुणः । यान्त्येव शक्तिभिः प्राणा विच्छेदात्परमात्मनः
O Lord, the separation of woman and man is most grievous; the vital powers depart from the Supreme Self when severed from their source.
इत्युक्त्वा राधिका वेवी परमात्मानमीश्वरम् । स्वासने वासयासास कृत्वा पादार्चनं मुदा
Having spoken thus, Rādhikā reverently seated the Supreme Lord on her own seat, and joyfully performed worship of his feet.
रत्नसिंहासने श्रीमानुवास राधया सह । गोपीभिः सप्तभिः शश्वत्सेवितः श्वेतचामरैः
The glorious Lord sat upon a jeweled throne with Rādhā, always attended by seven gopīs, who served with white yak-tail fans.
चन्दना सा ददौ गात्रे सुगन्धि चन्दनं हरेः । सस्मिता रत्नमाला सा रत्नमालां गले ददौ
She applied fragrant sandalwood paste to Hari's body, and with a gentle smile, she placed a jeweled garland around his neck.
पद्मैः पद्मार्चिते पादपद्मे पद्मावती सती । अर्ध्या ददौ सा सजलं दूर्वा पुष्पं च चन्दनम्
Padmāvatī, devoted and worshipped with lotuses, offered water for washing the feet, sacred grass, flowers, and sandalwood to his lotus feet.
मालतो मालतीमाल्यं चूडायां च हरेर्ददौ । चम्पापुष्पस्य पुटकं ददौ चम्पावती सती
Mālatī offered a garland of mālatī flowers for his hair, and Campāvatī, devoted, gave a bundle of campā flowers.
पारिजाता च हरये पारिजातं ददौ मुदा । सकर्पूरं च ताम्बूलं वासितं शीतलं जलम्
Pārijātā joyfully gave pārijāta flowers to Hari, along with camphor, betel leaves, and cool, fragrant water.
ददौ कदम्बमाला सा कदम्बमालिकां शुभाम् । क्रीडाकमलमम्लानममूल्यं र्तनदर्पणम्
Kadambamālā offered a beautiful garland of kadamba flowers, a fresh, unwithering lotus for play, and a precious jeweled mirror.
ददौ हस्ते हरेरेव कमला सा सुकोमला । वरुणेन पुरा दत्तं वस्त्रयुग्मं च सुन्दरम्
The gentle Kamalā placed a lotus in Hari's hand, and gave him a pair of splendid garments once bestowed by Varuṇa.
साक्षाद्गोरोचनाभं च सुन्दरी हरये ददौ । मधुपात्रं मधुस्तस्मै मधुरं मधुपूर्णकम्
A lovely gopī gave Hari a substance resembling pure gorocanā, and a cup filled with sweet honey.
सुधापूर्गं सुधापात्रं ददौ भक्त्या सुधामुखी । चकार पुष्पशय्यां च गोपी चन्दनचर्चिताम्
Sudhāmukhī, with devotion, offered a vessel brimming with nectar, and a gopī prepared a flower-strewn bed anointed with sandalwood.
अम्लानमालतीपुष्पमालाजालविभूषिताम् । रत्नेन्द्रसारनिर्माणमन्दिरे सुमनोहरे
It was adorned with garlands of unfading mālatī flowers, within a wondrous palace built of the finest jewels.
मणीन्द्रमुक्तामाणिक्यहीरहारविभूषिते । कस्तूरीकुङ्कुमाक्तेन वायुना सुरभीकृते
The chamber was decorated with necklaces of precious gems, pearls, rubies, and gold, and made fragrant by breezes scented with musk and saffron.
रत्नप्रदीपशतकैर्ज्वलद्भिश्च सुदीपिते । धूपिते सततं धूपैर्नानावस्तुसमन्वितैः
It was brilliantly illuminated by hundreds of blazing jeweled lamps, and always perfumed with incense of various kinds.
कृत्वा शय्यां रतिकरीं ययुर्गोप्यश्च सस्मिताः । दृष्ट्वा रहसि तल्पं च सुरम्यं सुमनोहरम्
Having prepared the delightful bed of love, the smiling gopīs departed, after beholding the secluded, enchanting couch.
माधवो राघया सार्ध विवेश रतिमन्दिरम् । नानाप्रकारहास्यं च परिहासं स्मरोचितम्
Mādhava entered the chamber of love with Rādhā, engaging in many kinds of laughter and playful, amorous banter.
द्वयोर्बभूव तल्पे च मदनातुरयोस्तथा । माल्यं ददौ च कृष्णाय ताम्बूलं च सुवासितम्
On the couch, the two, overcome by love, exchanged garlands and fragrant betel leaves.
कस्तूरीकुङ्कुमाक्तं च चन्दनं श्यामवक्षसि । चारुचम्पकपुष्पं च चूडायां प्रददौ सती
She applied sandalwood mixed with musk and saffron to Śyāma's chest, and adorned his hair with charming campaka flowers.
सहस्रदलससंक्तक्रीडापद्मं करे ददौ । प्रक्षिप्य मुरलीं हस्तात्प्रददौ रत्नदर्पणम्
She placed in his hand a lotus for play, fashioned with a thousand petals, and after setting aside his flute, gave him a jeweled mirror.
पारिजातस्य कुसुममम्लानं पुरतो ददौ । उवाच मधुरं राधा रहस्ये मधुरं वचः सस्मिता सस्मितं शान्तं कान्तं कान्ता मनोहरम्
She offered before him an unfading pārijāta blossom, and Rādhā, in private, spoke sweet, gentle, smiling, peaceful, and enchanting words.
