चकार चन्दनाक्तं च स्वयं च पार्वती सती । पुष्पं केलिकदम्बानां स्तबकं च मनोहरम्
Pārvatī herself, chaste and pure, prepared flowers anointed with sandalwood, and a charming cluster of kadamba blossoms for play.
कदम्बमालां कृष्णार्थ विद्यमानां चकार सा । ताम्बूलं च वरं सम्यं कर्पूरादिसुवासितम्
She made a garland of kadamba flowers for Kṛṣṇa, and prepared excellent betel leaves, properly scented with camphor and other fragrances.
कृष्णप्रिया च कृष्णार्थं चकार वासितं जलम् । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे सर्वमाश्रमं सजलस्थलम्
Kṛṣṇa’s beloved prepared perfumed water for Kṛṣṇa; meanwhile, the entire hermitage became moist and fresh.
साक्षाद्गोरोचनाभं च ददृशुर्मुनयः सुराः । ते सर्वे विस्मयं गत्वा पप्रच्छुः कृष्णमीश्वरम्
The sages and gods saw the place shining like pure gorocanā; all of them, filled with wonder, questioned Kṛṣṇa, the Lord.
उवाच भगवांस्ताश्च सर्वज्ञः सर्वकाराणा
The Blessed Lord, the all-knowing, the cause of all, spoke to them.
श्रीभगवानुवाच अभिशप्ता च श्रीदाम्ना भ्रष्टशोभा राधिका । सर्वं ज्ञानं विसस्मार मद्विच्छेदज्वरातुरा
The Blessed Lord said: Cursed by Śrīdāmā, Rādhikā lost her radiance; afflicted by the fever of separation from me, she forgot all knowledge.
विमुक्ते वर्षशतके ज्ञानं सस्मार सा सती । सिद्धाश्रमं च पीताभं रासेश्वर्याश्च तेजसा
When a hundred years had passed in release, that chaste one remembered her knowledge, and the hermitage shone with the golden radiance of the Queen of the Rāsa.
परमाह्लादकं तेजश्चन्द्रकोटिसमप्रभम् । सुखदृश्यं च सुखदं चक्षुधां प्राणिनामपि
That supreme, blissful radiance, equal to ten million moons, delightful to see and bestowing happiness even to the eyes of living beings.
तच्छ्रुत्वा परमाश्चर्यं मुनयो मनवस्तथा । देव्यश्च सर्वदेवास्ते ब्रह्मेशानादयस्तथा
Hearing of this most wondrous event, the sages, Manus, all the goddesses, all the gods, and even Brahmā and Śiva were amazed.
जवेन गत्वा तत्स्थानं भक्तिनम्रात्मकंधरा । सर्वे जनास्ते ददृशुस्त्रैलोक्यस्थाश्च राधिकाम्
Swiftly they went to that place, their heads bowed in devotion, and all the people there, as well as those in the three worlds, beheld Rādhikā.
श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभामतुलां सुमनोहराम् । मोहिनीं मानसानां च मुनीनामूर्ध्वरेतसाम्
They saw her with a complexion like white campaka flowers, incomparable in beauty, enchanting the minds even of sages with controlled senses.
सुकेशीं सुन्दरीं श्यामां न्यग्रोधपरिमण्डलाम् । नितम्बकठिनश्रोणीं स्तनयुग्मोन्नताननाम्
Her hair was lovely, her form beautiful and dark, her hips and thighs well-shaped like a banyan tree, her waist and buttocks firm, her face radiant with prominent breasts.
कोटीन्दुनिन्दितास्यां तां सस्मितां सुदतीं सतीम् । कज्जलोज्ज्वलरूपां च शरत्कमललोजनाम्
Her face outshone millions of moons, she was smiling, with beautiful teeth, chaste, her eyes shining with collyrium, and resembling autumn lotuses.
महालक्ष्मीं बीजरूपां परामाद्यां सनातीम् । परमात्मस्वरूपस्य प्राणाधिष्ठातृदेवताम्
She was Mahālakṣmī, the primal seed, supreme, original, eternal, the presiding goddess of the life-force of the Supreme Self.
स्तुतां च पूजितां चैव परां च परमात्मने । ब्रह्मस्वरूपां निर्लिप्तां नित्यरूपां च निर्गुणाम्
Praised and worshipped, she is the supreme one, the Supreme Self; of the nature of Brahman, untouched, eternal in form, and without qualities.
विश्वानुरोधात्प्रकृतिं भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहाम् । मत्यस्वरूपां शुद्धां च पूतां पतितपावनीम्
By the will of the universe, she assumes the form of nature, an embodiment of grace for devotees; her form is mortal, pure, sanctified, and the purifier of the fallen.
सुतीर्थपूतां सत्कीर्तिं विधात्रीं वेदसामपि । महत्प्रियां च महतीं महाविष्णोश्च मातरम्
Sanctified by holy places, of noble fame, the creator even of the Vedas; beloved of the great, herself great, and the mother of the great Vishnu.
रासेश्वरेश्वरीं रम्यां रसिकां रसिकेश्वरीम् । वह्निशुद्धांशुकाधामां स्वेच्छारूपां शुभालयाम्
She is the sovereign of the Lord of the Rasa dance, beautiful, connoisseur of rasa and the mistress of those who delight in rasa; her radiance is like fire-purified cloth, her form as she wishes, the abode of auspiciousness.
गोपीभिः सप्तभिः शश्वत्सेवितां श्वेतचामरैः । चतसृभिः प्रियालीभिः पादपद्मोपसेविताम्
Eternally served by seven gopīs with white yak-tail fans, and by four dear companions who attend to her lotus feet.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणभूषणोच्चैर्विभूषिताम् । चारुकुण्डलयुग्मेन श्रुतिगण्डस्थलोज्ज्वलाम्
Adorned with ornaments crafted from priceless gems, she shines with a pair of beautiful earrings that illuminate her cheeks and temples.
सुनासां गजमुक्तार्हां खगेन्द्रचञ्चुनिन्दिताम् । कुङ्कुमालक्तकस्तूरीस्निग्धचन्दनचर्चिताम्
With a fine nose, worthy of elephant pearls, her beak-like lips surpass the king of birds; she is anointed with saffron, lac, musk, and fragrant sandalwood.
दधानां सुकपोलं च कोमलाङ्गीं सुकामुकीम् । गचेन्द्रगामिनीं रामां कामनीयां सुकामिनीम्
She has lovely cheeks, a delicate body, and is pleasing in love; her gait is like that of a royal elephant, she is charming, and delights in love.
कामास्त्रजयरूपां च कामकाम्यालयां वराम् । क्रीडाकमलमम्लानं पारिजातप्रसूनकम्
She is the embodiment of the victory of the god of love's arrows, the supreme abode of desire; she holds an ever-fresh lotus of play, and a blossom of the pārijāta tree.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणं दधानां दर्पणोज्ज्वलम् । नानारत्नविचित्राढ्यरतनसिंहासनस्थिताम्
She holds a mirror made of priceless gems, and sits upon a throne of jewels, adorned with a variety of wondrous gems.
पद्मैः पद्मार्चितं पादपद्मं च मङ्गलालयम् । हृत्पद्मे ध्यायमानं च कृणस्य परमात्मनः
Her lotus feet, worshipped with lotuses, are the abode of auspiciousness; in the lotus of the heart, she is meditated upon as the Supreme Self of Krishna.
कर्मणा मनसा वाचा स्वप्ने जागरणेऽपि च । तत्प्रीतिं प्रेम सौभाग्यं स्मरन्तीं नित्यनूतनम्
By action, mind, and speech, whether in dream or waking, she constantly remembers his affection, love, and good fortune, ever fresh.
भावानुरक्तसंसक्तां शुद्धभक्तां पतिव्रताम् । धन्यां मान्यां गौरवर्णां शश्वद्वक्षः स्थलस्थिताम्
Bound by devotion and attachment, pure in devotion, faithful to her husband; blessed, honored, fair-complexioned, ever abiding on his chest.
प्रियासु प्रियभक्तेषु सुप्रियां प्रियवादिनीम् । कृष्णवामाङ्गसंभूतामभेदां गुणरूपयोः
Among the beloved and dear devotees, she is most dear, sweet-spoken; born from Krishna's left side, inseparable from his qualities and form.
गोलोकवासिनीं देवदेवीं सर्वोपरिस्थितम् । वृषभानसुताख्यां तां पुण्यक्षेत्रे च भारते
Residing in Goloka, the goddess of gods, established above all; known as the daughter of Vṛṣabhānu, in the holy land of Bhārata.
गोपीश्वरीं गुप्तरूपां सिद्धिदां सिद्धिरूपिणीम् । ध्यानासाध्यां दुराराध्यां वन्दे सद्भक्तवन्दिताम्
The queen of the gopīs, hidden in form, bestower and embodiment of perfection; attainable by meditation, difficult to worship, I bow to her, revered by true devotees.
