Bali said: By the prayer of Aditi and the vow of the divine mother, O Lord, I was once deceived by you in the form of Vāmana.
The goddess Mahālakṣmī, embodiment of prosperity, was given to the devotee out of devotion; to Indra, my devotee, to my brother, the virtuous one, certainly.
Now, my son Bāṇa is a servant of Śaṃkara; he too has been protected from afar by that friend of devotees.
He has been nourished by Pārvatī, just as a mother nourishes her son; and by force he took that virtuous young woman as his wife.
You rose up to slay him, but were restrained even by Kartikeya; now you have come again to kill, capable of subduing your grandson.
It is heard in scripture that the Self is equal everywhere and in all; O Lord of the worlds, how then do you commit such transgression?
Who, once slain by you, has any protector on earth? The radiance of Sudarshana is supreme, like ten million suns.
Which of the gods could withstand that weapon? Just as Sudarshana is the foremost among weapons, so it is the best of all.
In the same way, you are the supreme Lord of all the gods; just as you are, so is Krishna, the creator even of the creators.
Vishnu is the support of the quality of sattva, and Shiva likewise rests upon sattva; the creator himself is the agent of rajas, the progenitor.
Kālāgni Rudra, the blessed one, is the cause of the destruction of the universe; he is the refuge of tamas, and is the greatest among the Rudras.
He alone is a portion of Shankara, and the other Rudras are his parts; you are beyond qualities, and also beyond nature.
The supreme Self of all is indeed the vital force in the form of Vishnu; Brahma is the mind itself, and Shiva is the essence of knowledge.
The foremost of all powers is intellect, and nature is the sovereign; the living soul is a reflection of your own self in all embodied beings.
The living soul enjoys the fruits of its own actions, and you are the witness; when you depart, O king among men, all follow after you.
The body immediately falls and becomes a corpse, untouchable without you; wise men and saints do not know, deceived by your illusion.
Those saints who worship you alone cross over this illusion; nature, composed of three qualities, is Durga, eternal and Vaishnavi.
The supreme Narayani, the sovereign, is your difficult-to-cross illusion; your portions in all worlds are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
The great Virat, who is the refuge of all the worlds, lies upon the waters through yoga, as the Lord of the universe in Gokula.
He himself is Vasudeva, the blessed one; you are the supreme deity of him; known as Vasudeva, he was praised by the ancient sages.
You alone, by your portion, are the sun; you alone, by your portion, are the moon; by your portion, you are fire, and by your portion, you are the wind itself.
By your portion, you are Varuna, Kubera, and Yama; by your portion, you are Mahendra, and by your portion, you are Dharma itself.
You alone, by your portion, are Śeṣa, Īśāna, and Nairṛta; likewise, sages, Manus, and the planets are givers of fruits.
By a fraction of your portion, all living beings, moving and unmoving, exist; you are the supreme Brahman, the highest light, whom yogis always meditate upon.
Your devotees honor you and meditate upon you within themselves, as the one dark as a fresh raincloud, clad in yellow silk garments.
With a gentle smile and a gracious face, lord of devotees, dear to devotees, whose whole body is anointed with sandalwood, two-armed, holding a flute.
Adorned with a peacock feather crown and a garland of jasmine, decorated with priceless jeweled armlets and bracelets.
Radiant with a pair of jeweled earrings on his cheeks, with a ring of precious gems, and adorned by tinkling anklets.
Possessing the playfulness of millions of Cupids, with eyes like autumn lotuses, a face rivaling the full autumn moon, and brilliance equal to millions of moons.
Beheld with smiles by millions upon millions of gopīs, served by friends, attendants, and cowherds with white fans.
