Aniruddha, with a crescent-tipped, razor-edged arrow, easily cut down Kārtikeya’s bow, which was set with a Bhalla arrow.
Kārtikeya struck Aniruddha with his formidable mace; but the son of Madana swiftly seized the mace from his hand.
Taking up a trident, Kārtikeya prepared to slay him, but Aniruddha, in anger, hurled him far away.
Kārtikeya returned, seized the son of Kāma, and with his own hand threw him down upon the ground.

Kārtikeya, son of the god of love, went to his own house, while the lord of the Gaṇas went to inform Śiva of everything.
Thus ends the one hundred sixteenth chapter, entitled 'The Birth of Śrī Kṛṣṇa,' in the great Śrī Brahmavaivarta Purāṇa, narrated by Nārada to Bāṇāsura.
Now begins the one hundred seventeenth chapter. Nārāyaṇa said: Gaṇeśa went to Śiva's abode, bowed to the great lord, and reported everything to him, one matter at a time.
He described the battle between Bāṇa and Aniruddha, the death of Subhadrā, the fight between Skanda and Aniruddha, and the valor of Aniruddha.
Hearing Gaṇeśa's words, the blessed Bhava smiled and spoke with gentle speech, well-guarded and in accordance with the Vedas.
Mahādeva said: O lord of the Gaṇas, greatly fortunate one, listen to my words—beneficial, true, the essence of wisdom, and bringing happiness in the end.
Know Kṛṣṇa, the son of all, the cause of all causes, who encompasses the countless hosts of worlds.
From Brahmā down to the blade of grass, O lord of the Gaṇas, know that the entire universe is Kṛṣṇa, the eternal blessed one, the truth.
In Goloka, he appears with two arms, peaceful, enchanting as Rādhā's beloved, in the form of a child, dressed as a cowherd, the most complete lord.
He is together with the gopīs, the cowherd boys, and the wish-fulfilling cows, in the holy, beautiful Vṛndāvana, within the lovely circle of the rāsa dance.
He wanders, flute in hand, worshipped by Brahmā, Śiva, and Śeṣa, on the mountain with a hundred peaks, beneath the banyan tree, in a place without disturbance.
In the cowherd settlement, near Bhāṇḍīra, on the pure bank of the Virajā river, he shines dark as a fresh raincloud, adorned in yellow garments.
Just as a new mass of clouds is illumined by lightning, so is his appearance among them in Goloka, within the circle of the rāsa dance.
So many are there in the delightful, holy forest of Vṛndāvana in Gokula; all are portions and powers of the Supreme Person, but Kṛṣṇa alone is the Lord himself.
He is the most complete, the very desire itself, who, due to Brahmā's curse, was made to forget himself; his son is Aniruddha, of great strength and valor.

In the battle between Skanda and Aniruddha, there was equality, O lord of the Gaṇas; all eight Bhairavas and the eleven Rudras were present.
These eight Vasus, the gods beginning with Indra, and likewise the twelve Adityas, as well as all the lords of the Daityas—
Skanda, the chief among the gods, and Bana together with his followers—all of them, as well as Aniruddha, are unable to defeat him in battle.
Aniruddha is Brahma himself; Pradyumna is indeed Kama; Baladeva is Sesha himself; and Krishna is beyond Prakriti.
All this has been told to you; protect Bana, O Lord of the Ganas. You are of auspicious form and the remover of obstacles.
Hari will soon arrive, having taken up the Sudarshana discus, the supreme and unfailing weapon, shining with the brilliance of ten million suns.

Bhairavi, Bhadrakali, Ugracanda, and Kotari—these goddesses rose up at once and bowed to the Lord of the universe.
