पैतृकी जन्मभूमिश्चेद्द्विगुणं तत्फलं लभेत् । पैतृकीभूमितुल्याच दानभूमिः सतामपि
If it is one’s ancestral birthplace, the fruit obtained is doubled; even for the virtuous, a land of donation is not equal to ancestral land.
वासुदेव उवाच भोगास्ते वचनं किं वा निषेकः केन वार्यंते । पैतृकी तीर्थतुल्या सा किं तीर्थं द्वारकापरम्
Vāsudeva said: What enjoyment, what command, or what restraint can there be? That ancestral land is equal to a holy place—what holy place surpasses Dvārakā?
सर्वतीर्थपरा श्रेष्ठा द्वारका बहपुण्यदा । यस्याः प्रवेशमात्रेण नराणां जन्मखण्डनम्
Dvārakā is the foremost of all holy places, bestowing great merit; by merely entering it, people are freed from the cycle of birth.
दानं च द्वारकायां च श्राद्धं च देवपूजनम् । चतुर्गुणं च तीर्थानां गङ्गादीनां च भूमिप
Charity, śrāddha, and worship of the gods performed in Dvārakā yield four times the merit of those performed at other holy places, including the Ganges, O King.
गच्छ ब्रह्मदिभिः सार्ध मुनिभिर्यादवैः सह । राजेन्द्रभवनं तत्र गृहाणां सादरं पुनः
Go, together with Brahma and the others, with the sages and the Yadavas, to the royal palace; there, once again, receive it with respect.
करोति शश्वन्न्यक्कारं महेन्द्रस्यामरावतीम् । निवस त्वं सुधर्मायां माहेन्द्रे च क्षणे नृप
He constantly brings disgrace upon Indra's Amaravati; you, O king, dwell in Sudharma and in the Indra's hall for a moment.
जम्बुद्वीपस्थिता भूपा राजेन्द्रमण्डलेश्वराः । करं दास्यन्ति तुभयं च महेन्द्राय सुरा यथा
The kings established in Jambudvipa, the lords of royal circles, will pay tribute to you, just as the gods do to Mahendra.
भूयाज्जितः कुबेरश्च धनेन धनसंपदा । तेजसा भास्करश्चापि महेन्द्रः संपदः तथा
Kubera is surpassed in wealth and riches; Bhaskara in brilliance, and Mahendra likewise in prosperity.
देवा जिता रणेनैव पुण्येन मुनयो जिताः । तपस्विनश्य तपसा व्रतीनश्च व्रतेन च
The gods are conquered in battle, the sages by merit; ascetics by their austerity, and those who observe vows by their vows.
उग्रसेनसमो राजा न भूतो न भविष्यति । सभायां यस्य भगवान्बलदेवो महाबलः
There has never been, nor will there be, a king equal to Ugrasena, in whose assembly sits the blessed and mighty Baladeva.
विश्वं च यस्य शिरसां सहस्राणं नरेश्वर । एकस्मिञ्शिरसि न्यस्तं शूर्पे च सर्षपो यथा
The entire world of a thousand kings bows its head to him, O lord of men, as mustard seeds are placed upon a winnowing basket on a single head.
न ह्यनन्तसमो देवो बलेन बलवत्तरः । यद्गुणानां च नास्त्यन्तस्तेनानन्तं जगुर्बुधाः
There is no god equal to Ananta in strength or greater in might; and since his qualities have no end, the wise call him 'Ananta.'
वसवोऽष्टौ महाभागा रुद्राश्च शंकरं विना । बलिनो द्वादशादित्या महेन्द्रश्च सुरैः समः
The eight Vasus, the mighty Rudras except Shankara, the powerful twelve Adityas, and Mahendra are all equal among the gods.
न समर्था ध्रुवं जेतुमुग्रसेनं नृपेश्वरम् । कृष्णस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा प्रसन्नवदनो नृपः
They are certainly not able to conquer Ugrasena, the lord of kings; hearing Krishna's words, the king's face became radiant with joy.
प्रययौ यादवैः सार्ध महेन्द्रभवनात्परम् । स्वालयं द्वारकामध्ये ज्वलन्तं मणितेजसा
He departed from the palace of Mahendra, together with the Yadavas, to his own residence in the midst of Dvaraka, shining with the brilliance of jewels.
सहस्रैद्वरिपालैश्च शूलिभिर्दण्डहस्तकैः । नियुक्तै रक्षितं द्वारं ददर्श मानवेश्वरः
He saw the gate guarded by thousands of warders, armed with spears and clubs, all appointed for protection, O lord of men.
अभ्यन्तरे च शिबिरं द्वारेभ्यः षड्भ्य एव च । मन्दिराणां च शतकै रत्नानां परिभूषणम्
Inside, near the six gates and in the camp, and in the hundreds of palaces, he saw the adornment of precious gems.
कोटिं मत्तगजेन्द्राणां ददर्श गजमन्दिरे । चतुर्युगं गजौघं गजानां षड्गुणं तथा
He saw in the elephant-stables a crore of intoxicated lordly elephants, a multitude of elephants for four yugas, and six times as many elephants.
महाबलांश्च तुरगान्सूर्याश्वं च हसन्ति ये । गजेन्द्रराजं सर्वेषां वाहनानामपीश्वरम्
He saw mighty horses, those that rival the sun's steeds, and the king of elephants, lord of all vehicles.
हसत्यैरावतं शश्वन्महेन्द्रस्य च नारद । अत्युच्चैरुच्चैःश्रवमां ददर्श कोटिमीप्सितम्
He constantly saw Airavata, Indra's elephant, O Narada, and the supremely high Ucchaihshravas, a crore as desired.
खराणां दशकोटिं च पादातं षड्गुणं तथा । निर्माणं रत्नसाराणां तथानां पञ्चलक्षकम्
He saw ten crores of donkeys, and six times as many foot soldiers, and five hundred thousand chariots made of precious gems.
पञ्चलक्षं सारथीनां तत्राश्वं षड्गुणं तथा । अश्ववाटं तत्समं च सुधर्मां च सभामपि
There were five hundred thousand charioteers, and six times as many horses; a stable equal to that, and also the Sudharma assembly hall.
ददर्शाम्यन्तरे रम्ये देवौघमुनिसंयुताम् । वह्निशुद्धाशुकै रम्यैर्भूषितां रक्तकम्बलैः
In that beautiful inner place, I saw a host of gods together with sages, adorned with garments purified by fire and lovely red cloaks.
रत्नसिंहासनै रम्यैर्भूषितां रक्तपिङ्गलैः । अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणवीथीनां तेजसोज्ज्वलाम्
It was adorned with splendid lion-thrones of jewels, shining with priceless gems, and radiant with brilliant avenues made of precious stones.
वेष्टितां च महाभीतैः किंकरैः शतकोटिभिः । प्रविवेश सभां रम्यां श्रुत्वा शङ्खध्वनिं शुभम्
Surrounded by a hundred crore mighty attendants, he entered the delightful assembly hall, having heard the auspicious sound of conches.
वाद्यं च दुंदुभीनां च मुनीनां वेदमन्त्रकम् । दृष्ट्वा नृपं समुत्तस्थौ वेगेन सबलो हरिः
There was music and the sound of drums, and the chanting of Vedic mantras by sages; seeing the king, Hari swiftly arose with his army.
ब्रह्मा महेश्वरश्चैव शेषश्च देवपुंगवाः । समुत्तस्थुः सुराः सर्वे मुनयश्च महाव्रताः
Brahma, Maheshvara, Shesha, and the foremost of the gods, all the deities and the great-vowed sages, stood up together.
राजेन्द्राश्चापि सिद्धेन्द्रा वसुदेवपुरोगमाः । रत्नसिंहासने रम्ये चोग्रसेनो महाबलः
The lordly kings and the chief of the Siddhas, led by Vasudeva, and the mighty Ugrasena, sat upon a splendid jeweled lion-throne.
समुवास महेन्द्रस्य मुनीनामाज्ञया हरेः । देवानां च गुरूणां च गर्गस्यापि तथैव च
By the command of Hari, of the sages, and of the gurus of the gods, as well as of Garga, Ugrasena took his seat in the assembly of Mahendra.
सप्ततीर्थोदकेनैव पूर्णकुम्भेन नारद । जकार वेदमन्त्रैश्च नृपस्याप्यभिषेचनम्
With water from seventy sacred places, in a full vessel, O Narada, he performed the king's consecration with Vedic mantras.
