Śrī Bhagavān said: When the auspicious rite is completed, all those who have assembled—Śiva, Brahmā, and the other gods, as well as various sages—will depart.
You, along with the Yādavas, enter the city of Dvārakā together with my father and mothers, and with Indra, O King, for a moment.
Other Yādavas and others will go to the city of Mathurā; hearing this, the king became dejected and, filled with fear, spoke to him.
Ugrasena said: Vāsudeva, I will not go again to that ancestral land, most sacred of all holy places, pure, and meant for ancestral rites.
Whoever offers oblations to the ancestors in that pure ancestral land or in a sacred place, that land is destroyed for the ancestor and the father in the rite for the ancestors.
The śrāddha for the ancestors becomes fruitless, and even worship of the gods yields little fruit, if performed on a site fully dedicated to the ancestors.
The ancestral land is always dearer than sons, grandsons, wives, or even life itself; it is exceedingly rare, and greater than both father and mother.
That is true and pure in the divine and ancestral rite; but play, gifts, and donations given by others are impure.
One who dies on ancestral land obtains the fruit equal to that of a holy place; water drawn from a well there is as pure as Ganges water, O Hari.
Bathing there in the pure water grants the fruit of bathing in the Ganges; there, offerings to the ancestors and worship of the gods are sanctified.
If it is one’s ancestral birthplace, the fruit obtained is doubled; even for the virtuous, a land of donation is not equal to ancestral land.
Vāsudeva said: What enjoyment, what command, or what restraint can there be? That ancestral land is equal to a holy place—what holy place surpasses Dvārakā?
Dvārakā is the foremost of all holy places, bestowing great merit; by merely entering it, people are freed from the cycle of birth.
Charity, śrāddha, and worship of the gods performed in Dvārakā yield four times the merit of those performed at other holy places, including the Ganges, O King.
Go, together with Brahma and the others, with the sages and the Yadavas, to the royal palace; there, once again, receive it with respect.
He constantly brings disgrace upon Indra's Amaravati; you, O king, dwell in Sudharma and in the Indra's hall for a moment.
The kings established in Jambudvipa, the lords of royal circles, will pay tribute to you, just as the gods do to Mahendra.
Kubera is surpassed in wealth and riches; Bhaskara in brilliance, and Mahendra likewise in prosperity.
The gods are conquered in battle, the sages by merit; ascetics by their austerity, and those who observe vows by their vows.
There has never been, nor will there be, a king equal to Ugrasena, in whose assembly sits the blessed and mighty Baladeva.
