द्व्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः नारायण उवाच कृण्णः सांदीपनेर्गेहं गत्वा च सबलो मुदा । नमश्चकार स्वगुरुं गुरुपत्नीं पतिव्रताम्
Chapter one hundred and two. Nārāyaṇa said: Kṛṣṇa, accompanied by his brother, went joyfully to the house of Sāndīpani, and offered obeisance to his own teacher and the teacher’s virtuous wife.
शुभाशिषं गृहीत्वा च दत्त्वा रत्नमणिं हरिः । गुरवे तस्य भार्यायै तमुवाच यथोचितम्
Receiving auspicious blessings and giving a precious gem, Hari addressed the teacher and his wife as was proper.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच त्वत्तो विद्यां लभिष्यामि वाञ्छितां वाञ्छितं मम । कृत्वा शुभक्षणं विप्र मां पाठय यथोचितम्
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: From you I shall obtain the desired knowledge I long for. O Brahmin, at an auspicious moment, instruct me as is fitting.
ओमित्युक्त्वा मुनिश्रेष्ठः पूजयामास तं मुदा । मधुपर्कप्राशनेन गवा वस्त्रेण चन्दनैः
Having uttered 'Om,' the best of sages joyfully worshipped him with madhuparka, a cow, garments, and sandalwood.
मिष्टान्नं भोजयामास ताम्बूलं च सुवासितं । सुप्रियं कथयामास तुष्टाव परमेश्वरम्
He served sweet food and fragrant betel, spoke affectionately, and praised the Supreme Lord.
सांदीपनिरुवाच परं ब्रह्म परं धाम परमीश परात्पर । स्वेच्छामयं स्वयंज्योतिर्निलिप्तैको निरङ्कुशः
Sāndīpani said: Supreme Brahman, supreme abode, supreme Lord, transcending all; self-willed, self-luminous, untouched, and unrestrained.
भक्तैकनाथ भक्तेष्ट भक्तानुग्रहविग्रह । भक्तवाञ्छाकल्पतरो भक्तानां प्राणवल्लभ
Sole refuge of devotees, beloved of devotees, embodiment of grace for devotees; wish-fulfilling tree for devotees, dearest to their lives.
मायया बालरूपोऽसि ब्रह्मेशशेषवन्दितः । मायया भुवि भूपाल भुवो भारक्षयाय च
By your own māyā you appear as a child, worshipped by Brahmā, Śiva, and Śeṣa; by māyā you descend to earth, O king, to lighten the burden of the world.
योगिनो यं विदन्त्येवं ब्रह्मज्योतिः सनातनम् । ध्यायन्ते भक्तनिवहा ज्योतिरभ्यन्तरे मुदा
Yogis know you as the eternal Brahman-light; hosts of devotees joyfully meditate on the inner radiance.
द्विभुजं मुरलीहस्तं सुन्दरं श्यामहुपकम् । चन्दनोक्षितसर्वाङ्गं सस्मितं भक्तवत्सलम्
With two arms, holding a flute, beautiful and dark-complexioned, all limbs anointed with sandalwood, smiling, and affectionate to devotees.
पीताम्बरधरं देवं वनमालविभूषितम् । लीलापाङ्गतरङ्गैश्च निन्दितानङ्गमूर्च्छितम्
Wearing yellow garments, adorned with a forest garland, with playful glances that surpass even the god of love in enchantment.
अलक्तभवनं तद्वत्पादपद्मं सुशोभनम् । कौस्तुभोद्भासिताङ्गं च दिव्यमूर्तिं मनोहरम्
His lotus feet, splendid as red lacquer, his body shining with the Kaustubha gem, his divine form captivating.
ईषद्धास्यप्रसन्नं च सुवेषं प्रस्तुतं सुरैः । देवदेवं जगन्नाथं त्रेलोक्यमोहनं परम्
Slightly smiling and gracious, beautifully adorned, praised by the gods, Lord of gods, Lord of the universe, supreme enchanter of the three worlds.
कोटिकन्दर्पलीलाभं कमनीयमनीश्वरम् । अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणभूषणौघेन भूषितम्
Possessing the playfulness of millions of Cupids, charming, unrivaled Lord, adorned with a multitude of ornaments crafted from priceless jewels.
वरं वरण्यं वरदं वरदानामभीप्सितम् । चतुर्णामपि वेदानां कारणानां च कारणम्
The best, the most worthy of being sought, the giver of boons, desired by those who grant boons, the cause of the four Vedas and of all causes.
पाठार्थ मत्प्रियस्थानमागतोऽसि च मायया । पाठं ते लोकशिक्षार्थं रमणं गमनं रणम्
For the sake of recitation, my beloved, you have come here by your own Māyā; your recitation, for the instruction of the world, your delight, your coming, your play.
गुरुपत्न्युवाच अद्य मे सफलं जन्म सफलं जीवनं मम । पातिव्रत्यं च सफलं सफलं च तपोवनम्
The wife of the guru said: Today my birth is fulfilled, my life is fulfilled; my fidelity to my husband is fulfilled, and my life of austerity in the forest is fulfilled.
मद्दक्षहस्तः सफलो दत्तं येनान्नमीप्सितम् । तदाश्रमं तीर्थपरं तीर्थपादपदाङ्कितम्
My right hand is fulfilled, by which I gave the desired food; that hermitage is a supreme pilgrimage, marked by the footprints of the holy.
त्वत्पादरजसा पूता गृहाः प्राङ्गणमुत्तमम् । त्वत्पादपद्मं दृष्ट्वा चैवाऽऽवयोर्जन्मखण्डनम्
Purified by the dust of your feet are the houses and the excellent courtyard; having seen your lotus feet, indeed, the bondage of our births is broken.
तावद्दुःखं च शोकश्च तावद्भोगश्च रोगकः । तावज्जन्मानि कर्माणि क्षुत्पिपासादिकानि च
So long as there is no devotion or vision of your lotus feet, there is suffering, sorrow, enjoyment, disease, births, actions, hunger, thirst, and the like.
यावत्त्वत्पादपद्मस्य भजनं नास्ति दर्शनम् । हे कालकाल भगवन्स्रष्टुः संहर्तुरीश्वर
As long as there is no worship or sight of your lotus feet—O Lord, time of time, God, creator, destroyer, ruler—
कृपां कुरु कृपानाथ मायामोहनिकृन्तन । इत्युक्त्वा साश्रुनेत्रा सा क्रोडे कृत्वा हरिं पुनः स्वस्तनं पाययामास प्रेम्णा च देवकी यथा
Show mercy, O Lord of compassion, cutter of the delusion of Māyā. Having spoken thus, with tearful eyes, she took Hari on her lap again and lovingly nursed him at her breast, as Devakī did.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच मातस्त्वं मां कथं स्तौषि बालं दुग्धमुखं सुतम् । गच्छ गोलोकमिष्टं च स्वामिना सहसाप्रतम्
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: Mother, how do you praise me, a child with milk on my lips, your son? Go at once to Goloka, your desired place, together with your husband.
त्यक्त्वा प्राकृतिकं मिथ्या नश्वरं च कलेवरम् । विधाय निर्मलं देहं जन्ममृत्युजराहरम्
Abandoning the natural, false, perishable body, assume a pure form, free from birth, death, and old age.
इत्युक्तवा चतुरो वेदान्पठित्वा मुनिपुंगवात् । मासेन परया भक्त्या दत्त्वा पुत्रं मृतं पुरा
Having spoken thus, and recited the four Vedas as taught by the best of sages, with supreme devotion for a month, she gave her previously dead son.
रत्नानां च त्रिलक्षं च मणीनां पञ्चलक्षणम् । हीरकाणां चतुर्लक्षं मुक्तानां पञ्चलक्षकम्
Three hundred thousand jewels, five hundred thousand gems, four hundred thousand diamonds, and five hundred thousand pearls.
माणिक्यानां द्विलक्षं च वस्त्रं त्रैलोक्यदुर्लभम् । हारं च दुर्गया दतं हस्तरत्नाङ्गुलीयकम्
Two hundred thousand rubies, cloth rare even in the three worlds, a necklace given by Durgā, and jeweled rings for the fingers.
दशकोटिं सुवर्णानां गुरवे दक्षिणां ददौ । अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणं नारीसर्वाङ्गभूषणमा
He gave as dakṣiṇā to the guru one hundred million pieces of gold, ornaments made of priceless jewels, and all kinds of women's adornments.
गुरुप्रियायै प्रददौ वह्निशुद्धांशुकं वरम् । मुनिर्दत्त्वा च पुत्राय तःसर्वं प्रियया सह
He gave to the guru's beloved wife a garment purified by fire, and the sage, together with his wife, gave all that to his son.
सद्रत्नरथमारुह्य ययौ गोलोकमुत्तमम् । तमद्भूतं हरिं दृष्ट्वा प्रययौ स्वालयं मुदा
Mounting a chariot adorned with precious gems, he went to the supreme Goloka; having seen that wondrous Hari, he joyfully returned to his own abode.
