तमुवाच महासाध्वी हितं सत्यं च मङ्गलम् । संगोप्यं साश्रुनेत्रं च पतितं दुःखिता हृदि
That great and virtuous lady spoke to him words that were beneficial, truthful, and auspicious, concealing her tears as she grieved deeply within her heart.
राधिकोवाच शुभं भवतु मार्गस्ते कल्याणमस्तु संततम् । ज्ञानं लभ हरेः स्थानात्कृष्णस्य सुप्रियो भव
Rādhikā said: May your path be auspicious, may goodness always be with you; may you gain knowledge from the abode of Hari and become most dear to Krishna.
कृष्णभक्तिः कृष्णदास्यं दलेषु च वरं वरम् । श्रेष्ठा पञ्चविधा मुक्तेर्हरिभक्तिर्गरीयसी
Krishna devotion, service to Krishna, and the highest forms among the groups—these are supreme; among the five kinds of liberation, devotion to Hari is the greatest.
ब्रह्मत्वादपि देवत्वादिन्द्रत्वादमरादपि । अमृतात्सिद्धिलाभाच्च हरिदास्यं सुदुर्लभम्
Even beyond Brahmahood, divinity, Indrahood, and the status of immortals, and beyond attainment of perfection, service to Hari is exceedingly rare.
अनेकनन्मतपसा संभूय भारते द्विजः । हरिभक्तिं यदि लभेत्तस्य जन्म सुदुर्लभम्
If a twice-born in Bharata, after countless ascetic practices, attains devotion to Hari, his birth is exceedingly rare.
सफलं जीवनं तस्य कुर्वतः कर्मणः क्षयम् । पितॄणां च सहस्राणि स्वस्य मातुश्च निश्चितम्
His life becomes fruitful, his actions are exhausted, and certainly thousands of his fathers and his own mother are benefited.
मातामहानां पुंसां च शतानां सोदरस्य च । बान्धवस्यापि पत्न्याश्च गुरूणां शिष्यभृत्ययोः
Hundreds of maternal grandfathers, brothers, relatives, wives, teachers, disciples, and servants are also benefited.
तत्कर्म शोभरं वत्स यच्च कृष्णो समर्पणम् । तत्कर्म शोभनं शुद्धं कुष्णसंतोषणं यतः
O child, that action which is offered to Krishna is beautiful; that action is pure and pleasing to Krishna.
संकल्पसाधनं कर्म संप्रीतिविधिपूर्वकम् । तदेव मङ्गलं धन्यं परिणामसुखावहम्
Action performed with resolve and according to the rules of loving devotion is truly auspicious, blessed, and brings happiness in its result.
तद्व्रतं तत्तपः सत्यं तद्भक्तिः पूजनं तथा । तदुद्देश्यमनशनं केवलं दास्यकालणम्
That vow, that austerity, that truth, that devotion, that worship, that fasting for the sake of Him, and that service alone are meaningful.
समस्तपृथिवीदानं प्रदक्षिण्यं भुवस्तथा । समस्ततीर्थस्नानं च समस्तं च व्रतं तपः
Giving away the entire earth, circumambulating the world, bathing at all holy places, and undertaking all vows and austerities—
समस्तयज्ञकरणं सर्वदानफलं तथा । समस्तवेदवेदाङ्गपठनं पाठनं तथा
Performing all sacrifices, attaining the fruits of all gifts, reciting and teaching all the Vedas and their branches—
भीतस्थं रक्षणं चैव ज्ञानदानं सुदुर्लभम् । अतिथीनां पूजनं च शरणागतरक्षणम्
Protecting those who are fearful, giving knowledge which is exceedingly rare, honoring guests, and protecting those who seek refuge—
सर्वदेवार्चनं चैव वन्दनं जपनं मनोः । भोजनं विप्रदेवानां पुरश्चरणपूर्वकम्
Worshipping all the gods, offering salutations, reciting prayers, feeding Brahmins and gods with proper rituals—
गुरुशुश्रूषणं चैव पित्रोर्भक्तिश्च पोषणम् । सर्वं श्रीकृष्णदास्यस्य कलां नार्हति षोडशीम्
Serving the teacher, devotion and nourishment of parents—all these do not equal even a sixteenth part of service to Śrī Krishna.
तस्मादुद्धव यत्नेन भज कृष्णं परात्परम् । निर्गुणं च निरीहं च परमात्मानमीश्वरम्
Therefore, Uddhava, with effort, worship Krishna, the supreme beyond all, without qualities, without desire, the supreme soul, the Lord.
नित्यं सत्यं परं ब्रह्म प्रकृतेः परमीश्वरम् । परिपूर्णतमं शुद्धं भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहम्
Eternal, true, the supreme Brahman, the Lord beyond nature, most complete, pure, and the embodiment of grace to devotees.
कर्मिणां कर्मणां साक्ष्यप्रदं निर्लिप्तमेव च । ज्योतिः स्वरूपं परमं कारणानां च कारणम्
He is the witness of actions and agents, untouched, the supreme light, the highest, and the cause of all causes.
सर्वस्वरूपं सर्वेशं सर्वसंपत्प्रदं शुभम् । भक्तिदं दास्यदं स्वस्य निजसंपत्पदप्रदम्
He is the embodiment of all, the Lord of all, the giver of every prosperity, auspicious, bestower of devotion, giver of service, and grants his own true wealth and supreme position.
विसृज्य ज्ञातिबुद्धिं च मात्सर्यमशुभप्रदम् । भज तं परमानन्दं सानन्दं नन्दनन्दनम्
Abandoning the notion of kinship and the envy that brings misfortune, worship that supreme bliss, the joyful son of Nanda.
वेदे कौथुमिशाखायां तस्य नाम्नां सहस्रकम् । नन्दनन्दननामोक्तं कृतौ विघ्नं सुदुर्लभम्
In the Vedas, in the Kauthumi branch, there is a thousand-name hymn of his, called the 'Names of Nandanandana'; in the age of Krita, its recitation is rarely hindered.
उद्धवः सर्वमाकर्ण्य परमं विस्मयं ययौ । ज्ञानं संप्राप्य संपूर्ण परिबूर्णे भभूव ह
Hearing all this, Uddhava was filled with the utmost wonder; having attained complete knowledge, he became utterly fulfilled.
स्ववस्त्रं च गले बद्ध्वा दण्डवत्प्रणनाम् ताम् । मुर्ध्नः केशैश्च तत्पादं निबध्य च पुनाः पुनः
Binding his own garment around his neck, he repeatedly bowed down like a staff, and again and again touched her feet with the hair of his head.
पुलकाञ्चितसर्वाङ्गः साश्रुनेत्रश्च भक्तितः । तद्विच्छेदशुचा प्रेम्ण रुरोदोच्चैश्च नारद
With every limb bristling and eyes filled with tears of devotion, he wept loudly, O Narada, in the pain of separation and out of love.
रुरोद राधा तत्प्रेम्णा रुरोद बल्लवीगणः । उद्धवस्य गलं धृत्वा सथापयामास लोभतः
Rādhā wept with that love, the cowherd women wept as well; grasping Uddhava's neck, they held him back out of longing.
उद्ववं मूर्च्छितं दृष्ट्वा जृम्भितं त्यक्तचेतनम् । शीघ्रसुत्थापयामास राधिका कृष्णमानसम्
Seeing Uddhava fainted, unconscious and collapsed, Rādhikā quickly revived the mind of Krishna within him.
चेतनं कारयामास जलं दत्त्वा मुखाम्बुजे । शुभाशिषं च प्रददौ वत्स जीवेति नारद
She restored his consciousness by sprinkling water on his lotus-like face, and gave him auspicious blessings, saying, 'Child, may you live,' O Narada.
उद्धवश्चेतनां प्राप्य तमुवाच सुसंसदि । रुदतीनां च गोपीनां पुरतः परमार्थदम्
Regaining consciousness, Uddhava spoke in that noble assembly, imparting the highest truth before the weeping gopīs.
उद्धव उवाच धन्यो यशस्यो द्वीपानां जम्बुद्वीपः सुदुर्लभः । यत्र भारतवर्ष तु सर्वैषामीप्सितं वरम्
Uddhava said: 'Blessed and renowned among the continents is Jambudvīpa, most rare; within it, Bhāratavarṣa is the supreme boon desired by all.'
अहो भारतवर्षे तु पुण्यं वृन्दावनं वनम् । राधापादाब्जसंस्पर्शरजः पूतं सुरेप्सितम्
Ah, in Bhāratavarṣa, the sacred forest of Vṛndāvana is purified by the dust from the touch of Rādhā's lotus feet, longed for even by the gods.
