एवं कालगतिस्तत्र विष्णुलोकेऽस्ति संततम् । कालस्वरूपो भगवान्परमात्मा निराकृतिः
Thus, the movement of time exists continually in Vishnu's realm; the Lord, the Supreme Soul, is the very form of time, without attributes.
चन्द्रसूर्यगतिर्नास्चि पातालेषु च सप्तषु । ,द्वासिनश्च जानन्ति शङ्कन्ते न दिवानिशम्
There is no movement of the moon or sun in the seven nether worlds; the residents there know, but do not suspect day and night.
दिने च मूर्ध्निनागानां मणिर्ज्वलति नित्यशः । संध्यायां दीप्तमग्निश्च रात्रिश्च तमसाऽऽवृता
During the day, the jewel on the heads of the serpents always shines; at twilight, the fire blazes brightly, and at night, everything is enveloped in darkness.
कालं ताम्रीप्रमाणेन जानन्ति तन्निवासिनः । यथा भुवि तथा तत्र परिमाणं प्रकीर्तितम्
The inhabitants there know the time by the measure of copper; as it is on earth, so is the measurement declared there.
कृतं त्रेता द्वापरं च कलिश्चेति चतुर्युगम् । दिव्यैर्द्वादशसाहस्रैर्वत्सरैश्चापि तन्मितम्
The four ages—Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali—are measured by twelve thousand divine years.
अष्टौ शतान्यप्यधिकं सहस्राणां चतुष्टयम् । दिव्यैर्वर्षैः कृतयुगं कालविद्भिर्निरूपितम्
The Krita Yuga is determined by those who know time as four thousand plus eight hundred divine years.
अष्टाविंशत्सहस्राण्यप्यधिकं परिमाणकम् । लक्षाणां च सप्तदशं नृमानं परिकीन्तितम्
Its total measure is twenty-eight thousand divine years, and for humans, it is said to be one million seven hundred thousand years.
अधिकं षट्शतान्येव सहस्राणां त्रयं तथा । दिव्यैर्वर्षैश्च त्रेतेति वत्स कालविदो विदुः
The Treta Yuga, O child, is known by those who understand time as three thousand six hundred divine years.
षण्णवतिसहस्राणि लक्षैर्द्वादशभिः सह । नृणां वर्षैश्च त्रेतेति कालविद्भिः प्रकीर्तितः
The Treta Yuga is declared by those who know time as seven hundred ninety thousand years plus one million two hundred thousand human years.
चतुष्टयं शतानां चाप्यधिकं द्विसहस्रकम् । वर्ष दिव्यं द्वापरं च कालज्ञैः परिकीर्तितम्
The Dvapara Yuga is said by those who know time to be two thousand four hundred divine years plus four hundred.
चतुःषष्टिसहस्राणि लक्षैरष्टभिरेव च । नृणां वर्षैर्द्वापरं च कालज्ञैः परिकीर्तितम्
The Dvapara Yuga is declared by those who know time as six hundred forty thousand years plus eight hundred thousand human years.
अधिकं द्विशतं चैव दिव्यं वर्षसहस्रकम् । एवंमितं कलियुगं वत्स प्राज्ञैर्निरूपितम्
The Kali Yuga, O child, is determined by the wise as one thousand two hundred divine years plus two hundred.
द्वात्रिंशच्च सहस्रं च चतुर्लक्षं नृमानकम् । वर्ष चेति कलियुगे चकार कालकोविदः
In the Kali Yuga, the measure for humans is said by those who know time to be thirty-two thousand plus four hundred thousand years.
लक्षैर्द्विचत्वारिंशद्भिः सह विंशत्सहस्रकैः । नृमानवर्षैः कालज्ञैर्व्यक्तमेव चतुर्युगम्
The four ages are clearly known by those who know time as four hundred twenty thousand human years plus twenty thousand.
इति ते कथितं वत्स कालसंख्यानिरूपणम् । यथाश्रुतं यथाज्ञानं गच्छ वत्स हरेः पुरम्
Thus, O child, the calculation of time has been explained to you; as you have heard and understood, go, O child, to the city of Hari.
अथ सप्तनवतितमोऽध्यायः नारायण उवाच गच्छन्तमुद्धवं दृष्ट्वा संत्रस्ता श्रीहरेः प्रिया । समुत्थायाऽऽसनाच्छीघ्रं हृदयेन विदूयता
Now, the ninety-seventh chapter. Narayana said: Seeing Uddhava departing, the beloveds of Shri Hari, frightened, quickly rose from their seats, their hearts distressed.
गोपीभिः सहिता शीघ्रं समुद्विग्ना सहासती । ददौ शुभाशिषं तस्मै तस्य मूर्ध्नि करं तथा
Together with the gopis, she, anxious and trembling, swiftly gave him auspicious blessings and placed her hand on his head.
स्तिग्धदूर्वाक्षतं शुक्लधान्यं पुष्पं च मङ्गलम् । प्रेरयामास लाजांश्च फलं पर्णं तथा दधि
She sent forth moist durva grass, unbroken rice, white grains, flowers for good fortune, parched rice, fruit, leaves, and curd.
दर्मणं दर्शयामास पूर्णकुम्भ सपल्लवम् । सफलं गन्धसिन्धूरकस्तूरीचन्दनान्वितम्
She showed him a full pot with leaves and fruit, adorned with fragrant sandal, musk, and sindhura.
पुष्पमाल्यं प्रदीपं च रत्नं गन्धं द्विजोत्तम । पतिपुत्रवती साध्वी काञ्चनं रजतं तथा
She gave flower garlands, a lamp, a jewel, fragrance, and, O best of twice-born, that virtuous wife with husband and son also gave gold and silver.
तमुवाच महासाध्वी हितं सत्यं च मङ्गलम् । संगोप्यं साश्रुनेत्रं च पतितं दुःखिता हृदि
That great and virtuous lady spoke to him words that were beneficial, truthful, and auspicious, concealing her tears as she grieved deeply within her heart.
राधिकोवाच शुभं भवतु मार्गस्ते कल्याणमस्तु संततम् । ज्ञानं लभ हरेः स्थानात्कृष्णस्य सुप्रियो भव
Rādhikā said: May your path be auspicious, may goodness always be with you; may you gain knowledge from the abode of Hari and become most dear to Krishna.
कृष्णभक्तिः कृष्णदास्यं दलेषु च वरं वरम् । श्रेष्ठा पञ्चविधा मुक्तेर्हरिभक्तिर्गरीयसी
Krishna devotion, service to Krishna, and the highest forms among the groups—these are supreme; among the five kinds of liberation, devotion to Hari is the greatest.
ब्रह्मत्वादपि देवत्वादिन्द्रत्वादमरादपि । अमृतात्सिद्धिलाभाच्च हरिदास्यं सुदुर्लभम्
Even beyond Brahmahood, divinity, Indrahood, and the status of immortals, and beyond attainment of perfection, service to Hari is exceedingly rare.
अनेकनन्मतपसा संभूय भारते द्विजः । हरिभक्तिं यदि लभेत्तस्य जन्म सुदुर्लभम्
If a twice-born in Bharata, after countless ascetic practices, attains devotion to Hari, his birth is exceedingly rare.
सफलं जीवनं तस्य कुर्वतः कर्मणः क्षयम् । पितॄणां च सहस्राणि स्वस्य मातुश्च निश्चितम्
His life becomes fruitful, his actions are exhausted, and certainly thousands of his fathers and his own mother are benefited.
मातामहानां पुंसां च शतानां सोदरस्य च । बान्धवस्यापि पत्न्याश्च गुरूणां शिष्यभृत्ययोः
Hundreds of maternal grandfathers, brothers, relatives, wives, teachers, disciples, and servants are also benefited.
तत्कर्म शोभरं वत्स यच्च कृष्णो समर्पणम् । तत्कर्म शोभनं शुद्धं कुष्णसंतोषणं यतः
O child, that action which is offered to Krishna is beautiful; that action is pure and pleasing to Krishna.
संकल्पसाधनं कर्म संप्रीतिविधिपूर्वकम् । तदेव मङ्गलं धन्यं परिणामसुखावहम्
Action performed with resolve and according to the rules of loving devotion is truly auspicious, blessed, and brings happiness in its result.
तद्व्रतं तत्तपः सत्यं तद्भक्तिः पूजनं तथा । तदुद्देश्यमनशनं केवलं दास्यकालणम्
That vow, that austerity, that truth, that devotion, that worship, that fasting for the sake of Him, and that service alone are meaningful.
