काचिद्भक्षयोपहारं च गृहीत्वा परिवर्तते । काचिच्च केशवेशार्थकरोति माल्यमीप्सितम्
One moves about carrying offerings of food; another makes a garland, her heart set on adorning Keśava.
काचित्कङ्कतिकां धृत्वा पुरतः परितिष्ठति । काचिद्यावकहस्ता च काचिद्धात्रीरसं मुदा
One stands in front holding a mirror; one has sprouted grains in her hand, and another joyfully holds a bowl of curd.
दूरतोऽपि वहत्येवं भीता च परितिष्ठति । काचिद्भीता भिया स्तौतिकाचिद्रोदिति शोकतः
Even from afar, one carries on in this way, standing in fear; one, frightened, praises, while another weeps in sorrow.
काचित्तां बौधयेत्येर्व विदग्धा विरहातुराम् । काचिदुत्तापतप्ता च स्निग्धतल्पे मनोहरे
One, clever, tries to awaken her who is tormented by separation; another, scorched by distress, lies on a lovely, soft bed.
स्थापयेद्दाहदूरार्थं स्निग्धपद्मदले शुभे । एवंभूतां चतां दृष्टवा चोवाच पुनरुद्धवः
To ease her burning pain, one places her on a soft, beautiful lotus leaf; seeing her in such a state, Uddhava again spoke.
उद्धव उवाच जाने त्वां देवदेवीशां सुस्निग्धां सिद्धयोगिनीम् । सर्वशक्तिस्वरूपां च सूलप्रकृतिमीश्वरीम्
Uddhava said: I know you as the goddess of gods, supremely affectionate, a perfected yogini, the very embodiment of all powers, the sovereign of the primal energy.
श्रीदामशापाद्धरणीं प्राप्तां गोलोककामिनीम् । कृष्णप्राणाधिकां देवीं तद्वक्षःस्थलवासिनीम्
By Śrīdāma's curse you have come to earth, though you long for Goloka; you are the goddess whose life is dearer than life to Kṛṣṇa, dwelling upon his chest.
शृणु देवि प्रवक्ष्यामि शुभवार्तामभीप्सिताम् । सुस्थिरं सखिभिः सार्धं हृदयस्नग्धिकारिणीम्
Listen, O goddess, I will tell you the auspicious news you desire, which will bring lasting joy to your heart and to your companions.
दुःखदावाग्निदग्धायाः सुधावर्षणरूपिणीम् । विरहव्याधियुक्ताया रसायनसमां शुभाम्
To you, scorched by the forest fire of sorrow and afflicted by the disease of separation, this news will be like a shower of nectar, a healing elixir.
तत्र तिष्ठति नन्दोऽयं सानन्दो सुदितः सदा । निमन्त्रितश्च वसुना कृष्णोपनयनावधि
There, Nanda remains, always joyful and radiant, invited by Vasudeva, until Kṛṣṇa is brought back.
गृहीत्वा सबलं कृष्णं साङ्गे मङ्गलकर्मणि । स नन्दः परमानन्दो सुदाऽऽयास्यति गोकुलम्
Taking Kṛṣṇa along with Balarāma and the auspicious rites, that Nanda, filled with supreme joy, will soon return to Gokula.
आगत्य कृष्णो मुदितः प्रणम्य मातरं पुनः । नक्तमायास्यति मुदा पुण्यं वृन्दावनं वनम्
Kṛṣṇa, delighted, will come and again bow to his mother; at night, he will joyfully return to the sacred forest of Vṛndāvana.
अचिराद्द्रक्ष्यसि सति श्रीकृष्णमुखपङ्कजम् । सर्वं विरहदुःखं च संत्यक्ष्यसि च सांप्रतम्
Very soon, O faithful one, you will see the lotus face of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and all your present sorrow of separation will be cast away.
सुस्थिरा भव मातस्त्वं त्यज शोकं सुदारुणम् । वह्निशुद्धांशुकं रम्यं परिधाय प्रहर्षिता
Be steadfast, mother, abandon your intense grief; put on the beautiful garment purified by fire, filled with delight.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणभूषणग्रहणं कुरु । गृहाणचन्दनं स्निग्धं कस्तूरीकुङ्कुमान्वितम्
Adorn yourself with ornaments made of priceless gems; take the fragrant sandal paste mixed with musk and saffron.
कुरुष्व केशसंस्कारं मालतीमाल्यभूषितम् । सुवेषं कुरु कल्याणि गण्डे च चित्रपत्रकम्
Arrange your hair, adorned with a garland of jasmine; dress yourself beautifully, O auspicious one, and decorate your cheek with colored designs.
सिन्दूरबिन्दुं सीमन्ते कस्तूरीचन्दनान्वितम् । अलक्तकाक्तं चरणं युक्तं यावकभूषणैः
A dot of vermilion at the parting of the hair, adorned with musk and sandalwood, and feet reddened with alaktaka, decorated with barley ornaments.
कुरुष्व तिष्ठचोतिष्ठ रत्नसिंहासने वरे । सपङ्कपङ्कजं तल्पं त्यज सार्धं शुचा सति
Rise, stand up, O best one, and sit upon the jeweled lion-throne; abandon the lotus-bed, together with sorrow, O chaste lady.
भुङ्क्ष्व कृष्णेन मनसा विशुद्धं मधुरं मधु । संस्कृतं भासितं तोयं ताम्बूलं च सुवासितम्
With a pure mind, enjoy with Krishna the sweet honey, the refined and fragrant water, and the well-scented betel.
रत्नेन्द्रसारनिर्माणपर्यङ्के मुमनोहरे । वह्निसद्धांशुकाक्ते च मालतीमाल्यभूषिते
On a couch most delightful to the mind, crafted from the essence of the best jewels, covered with cloth dyed in fire, and adorned with garlands of jasmine.
सुगन्धियुक्ते कस्तूरीजातीचम्पकचन्दनैः । परितो मालतीमाल्यहीरहारविभूषिते
Surrounded by fragrance, with musk, jasmine, champaka, and sandalwood, and all around adorned with jasmine garlands and necklaces of gems.
मणीन्द्रमुक्तामाणिक्यसुन्दरैश्च परिष्कृते । पुष्पमाल्योपधाने च मङ्गलार्हे मुदाऽन्विता
Decorated with the finest jewels, pearls, and rubies, and with a floral garland as a cushion, worthy of auspiciousness, filled with joy.
शयनं कुरु देवेशि गोपीभिः सेविता सदा । करोतु सेवनं शश्वत्प्रियालिः श्वेतयामरैः
O goddess of the gods, always served by the gopīs, make your bed; let your beloved friends, along with the white immortals, serve you continually.
पदारविन्दसेवां च गोपीभक्ता मनोहरे । सद्रत्नसारनिर्माणपर्यङ्के सुमनोहरे
Let the devoted gopīs, delightful in mind, serve your lotus feet, upon a couch most charming, crafted from the essence of precious jewels.
त्येवमुक्त्वा स मुने पुनस्तूष्णीं बभूव ह । प्रणम्य पादपद्मं च ब्रह्मादिसुरवन्दितम्
Having spoken thus, O sage, he then became silent, having bowed to the lotus feet, worshipped by Brahmā and the other gods.
उद्धवस्य वचःश्रुत्वा सस्मिता राधिका सती । यौतुकं च ददौ तस्मै रत्नसाराङ्गुलीयकम्
Hearing Uddhava’s words, the virtuous Rādhikā smiled and gave him a wedding gift—a jeweled ring of the finest gems.
अमूल्यं सुन्दरं रम्यं विश्वकर्मविनिर्मितम् । मुखदृश्यं पीतवर्ण सुदीप्तं सुप्रदीपवत्
Priceless, beautiful, and lovely, crafted by Viśvakarman, pleasing to the eye, golden in color, shining brilliantly like a lamp.
कृष्णय वह्निना दत्तमपूर्वं रासमण्डले । मणिकुण्डलयुग्मं चामूल्यरत्नविनिर्मितम्
Given to Krishna by Agni in the rasa-maṇḍala, a pair of gem earrings, made from priceless jewels.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणं सर्वभूषणमीप्सितम् । वह्निशुद्धांशुकयुगं रत्ननिर्माणनायकम्
Made from priceless gems, desired by all as ornaments, a pair of cloths purified by fire, the foremost of jeweled creations.
हीरहारविनिर्माणं हारं च सुमनोहरम् । पुरा दत्तं च सुप्रित्या कृष्णाय वरुणेन च
A necklace of diamonds, most enchanting, once given with great affection to Krishna by Varuṇa.
