Tell Yashoda and Rohini of my playful acts; let them hear everything from the mouth of this boy, for such is my wish—
You will recount all this to all the residents of Gokula; time brings together friends and also separates them—
Time causes separation, enmity, and even affection; time creates the world and time also preserves it—
Time brings joy, time destroys beings; happiness, sorrow, fear, grief, old age, death, and birth—all are caused by time.
All things are done according to karma, and time alone brings them about; all is wrought by time, dear one, so do not be astonished.
How is it that you, a Vaiśya in Gokula, Nanda, lord of the Vaiśyas, and I, son of Vasudeva, am here in Mathurā—how did this come to be?
My father, out of fear of Kaṃsa, entrusted me to your house; you are a father beyond my own father, and your wife is a mother surpassing even my birth mother.
By the knowledge I have given, and by Pārvatī as well, O lord of Vraja, abandon delusion, O blessed one, and go home happily, dear father.
Nanda said: Remember Vṛndāvana, dear one, delightful, holy, and full of great festivals; Gokula, Gokula, so lovely, and the beautiful bank of the Yamunā.
The charming circle of the rāsa dance, beloved to you, the lovely women, the cowherd girls and boys, Yaśodā, and dear Rohiṇī.
And Rādhikā, dearer than life—how do you not remember her, my son? Go, even for a moment, for a few days, to Gokula, dear child.
Having spoken thus, Nanda took Kṛṣṇa into his lap; filled with sorrow, he bathed him with tears from his eyes.
He kissed Kṛṣṇa's cheeks and, overcome, pressed him to his chest; joyful and supremely blissful, the Blessed Lord spoke to him.
Thus ends the ninetieth chapter, called 'The Supreme Birth of Śrī Kṛṣṇa,' in the great Brahma-vaivarta Purāṇa, in the section of Nārada and the blessed Nanda.
Chapter Ninety-One. The Blessed Lord said: By union comes embrace, and from that may come separation; by a moment's meeting, union arises—who can prevent it?
For the sake of coming and going, Uddhava will speak; I will send him quickly, and then, father, you will know.
He will go and console Yaśodā, Rohiṇī, the cowherd women, the cowherd boys, and Rādhikā, dearer than life.
Meanwhile, there arrived Vasudeva and Devakī, as well as Baladeva, Uddhava, and also Akrūra, swiftly.
Vasudeva said: Nanda, you are strong, wise, a true friend and kinsman to me; abandon delusion, go home—this son is yours as he is mine.
Gokula is far away, and in Mathurā there are no relatives; at the festival, always joyful, Nanda, you will see your son.
Devakī said: Just as this is our son, so surely he is yours; why, Nanda, does your body show such grief?
Having stayed happily in your house for eleven years with Balarāma, how will you be overcome by sorrow in just a few days?
Remain in Mathura with your son for a few days; behold his face, radiant like the full moon, and make your birth fruitful.
Śrī Bhagavān said: Go, Uddhava, happily; auspiciousness will come to you and your beloved. Go to Gokula with joy, and see Yaśodā and Rohiṇī, the mothers.
Awaken the group of cowherd boys, Rādhikā, and the assembly of gopīs with the spiritual teaching I have given, which dispels sorrow.
Let Nanda remain joyfully, by my mother's command, in purity; you will speak to Yaśodā about Nanda's condition and his noble conduct.
Thus, having spoken, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, along with his father, mother, and Balarāma, quickly went inside the house together with Akrūra.
Uddhava, having spent the night in Mathura, O Nārada, departed swiftly in the morning for the delightful forest of Vṛndāvana.
Thus ends the ninety-first chapter of the great Brahma Purāṇa, concerning the birth of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, as narrated by Nārada.
Now begins the ninety-second chapter. Nārāyaṇa said: Sent by Śrī Kṛṣṇa, joyful, Uddhava bowed to Gaṇeśvara, remembering Nārāyaṇa, Śaṃbhu, Durgā, Lakṣmī, and Sarasvatī.
