Brahmā offered auspicious blessings, and the delighted sages did as well; all the deities danced, and the Gandharvas and Kinnaras sang.
Meanwhile, O dear one, the supreme king of hymns—remover of obstacles, swift, and the cause of the destruction of enemies—
It bestows the highest sovereignty, brings happiness, is supremely auspicious, grants liberation and release, and surely gives devotion to Hari.
It grants residence in Goloka and all perfections; by reciting the king of hymns, Pārvatī is always pleased.
It cuts the roots of greed, delusion, desire, anger, and karma; it gives strength and intelligence, and destroys birth and death.
It bestows wealth, children, beloveds, land, and all prosperity to people; it removes sorrow and suffering, and grants every success.
By reciting the king of hymns, even a great barren woman bears children; the afflicted are freed from bondage, and certainly are released from fear.
The sick are freed from illness, and the poor become wealthy; one does not die in a forest fire, nor does a boat sink in the great ocean.
Whether beset by bandits, enemies, or fierce creatures, O king of merchants, by this hymn a person attains well-being.
As among gems the best is of fire-born origin, among hermitages the best is of the twice-born, among rivers the Gaṅgā, and among mantras the Praṇava—
As Tulasī is among all leaves, the earth among all lands, the Pārijāta among flowers, and sandalwood among woods—
As Viṣṇu-worship is among austerities, Ekādaśī among vows, Śaṃbhu among the wise, and Gaṇeśvara among the accomplished—
As Viṣṇu is among gods, the Vedas among scriptures, Durgā among goddesses, and Lakṣmī among the peaceful—
As Sarasvatī is among the learned, Rādhikā among the beautiful, so among hymns, this hymn—there is none greater than this, O Vraja.
Long ago, it was given to Brahmā at Puṣkara during the solar festival, when he was seized by demons and afraid; it is the supreme remover of all difficulties.
By my command, Brahmā gave it to Śiva when he was beset by enemies; and Śiva, in ancient times, gave it to Sanaka and the others, and to Durvāsas.
The venerable Sanatkumara, out of compassion, joyfully gave it to Gautama, as well as to Pulaha, Pulastya, and Angiras.
Likewise, he gave it to Yama, to Surya, and Surya in turn to Yama; Yama, out of compassion, gave it to Citragupta in ancient times.
If you always recite this hymn for the sake of attaining Goloka, O dear one, you will directly see Parvati herself here.
Do not give it to just anyone, especially not to a sinner; keep it secret. Give it only to a devotee of Narayana, to one who is peaceful and learned.
It should be given with care to one who is all-knowing, to a Brahmin, to a devotee of Vrishavahana (Shiva), and to one who lives with a virtuous wife.
Not to a Shudra who cooks for others, nor to one who eats food from Shudras, nor to one who sells his daughter; but especially to a Brahmin.
One attains all accomplishments if the hymn is perfected; by reciting it ten thousand times, a person becomes perfected in the hymn.
It is greater than the control of fire, water, earth, and mind, and surpasses a thousand Ashvamedha sacrifices and circumambulating the earth.
This hymn bestows merit greater than bathing in all holy waters; I have given it to you, dear one, as dear to me as my own life.
Now, offer praise to Parvati here in my assembly; hearing the words of Shri Krishna, Nanda praised Parvati.
By this hymn, O best of Brahmins, which grants all prosperity, Durga granted him the boon he desired: residence in Goloka.
She gave him the rare and supreme knowledge not heard even in the Vedas, kingship in Gokula, and the exceedingly rare devotion to Krishna.
She also granted him servitude, supreme status, and accomplishment; having given the boon, Durga departed after conversing with Shambhu.
The gods and sages, having praised the son of Nanda, departed; Shri Krishna said to Nanda, 'Go, Nanda, return to Vraja with your people.'
