Whoever recites these ten auspicious names with devotion, a hundred times with devotion, attains freedom from disease.
He who recites a hundred thousand times is certainly freed from bondage; and having recited a million times, even a great barren woman bears a child.
He who, pure and eating sacrificial food, is poor, becomes wealthy; and having recited a hundred thousand times, a man becomes liberated while living.
Om, obeisance to Shiva, Durga, Ganapati, Kartikeya, the Lord of the Day, Dharma, Ganga, Tulasi, Radha, Lakshmi, Sarasvati—
Whoever, having bathed in water, recites these auspicious names, obtains his desired wish, and even an evil dream becomes auspicious.
Om hrim klim, to the great Maya who destroys previous misfortune, svaha; this seventeen-syllabled mantra is indeed the wish-fulfilling tree for the worlds.
Reciting it ten times with purity, an evil dream becomes pleasant; by reciting it a hundred thousand times, the mantra becomes perfected for people.
The perfected mantra bestows all desired accomplishments; 'Om namo Mrityunjaya'—reciting this with 'svaha' a hundred thousand times,
Having seen death in a dream, a man becomes long-lived; facing east or north, he should reveal the dream to a wise person.
But to a wicked, fallen, low person, one who reviles gods or brahmins, a fool, or one unlearned, the dream should not be revealed.
In the presence of a sacred fig tree, an astrologer, a brahmin, on a seat of ancestors or gods, to an honorable person, a Vaishnava, or a friend, the dream should be revealed during the day.
Thus, the meritorious account has been told to you, which destroys sin, brings fortune, fame, and long life. What more do you wish to hear?
Thus ends the eighty-second chapter in the glorious Brahmavaivarta Purana, in the section concerning the birth of Sri Krishna, the conversation between Narada and the blessed Nanda.
Nanda said: You are the cause of the Vedas and also of Brahma and the others, my son. Tell me everything, may good be yours; whom else can I ask but you?
What is the dharma of the Brahmins, and the duties of Kshatriyas and Shudras? What is the dharma for renunciants, ascetics, and celibates?
You should also speak about the duties of Brahmins, widows, Vaishnavas, the virtuous, and women devoted to their husbands.
And the duties of householders, their wives, disciples especially, and of sons and daughters towards their father and mother.
How many kinds of women are there, O Lord, and how many kinds of devotees? How many universes are there, and what is the nature of the mouth?
The Blessed Lord said: A Brahmin purified by sandhya who always serves Me, always partakes of My offered food, and never eats without offering.
Food not offered to Vishnu is like excrement, and water likewise; but a Brahmin who eats Vishnu's prasada is liberated while living.
He is always engaged in austerity, pure, peaceful, learned in the scriptures, devoted to vows and pilgrimages, righteous, and engaged in teaching various subjects.
Having received the Vishnu-mantra and served the guru, and having obtained the guru's permission, only then does one become a householder.
One should always offer dakshina to the guru and to those who perform daily worship; there is no doubt that the guru must always be supported.
Among all who are worthy of reverence, the father is a great guru; the mother is a hundred times greater than the father, and the gods are a hundred times greater than the mother.
The giver of mantras and the teacher of tantra are four times greater than the gods; Lord Narayana Himself is the guru, the manifest Lord.
It is stated in the scriptures that in the act of teaching, the gods are present; one's own guru is the direct enjoyer, and Janardana Himself is embodied therein.
The guru is Brahma, the guru is Vishnu, the guru is indeed Shiva Himself; all the gods always reside joyfully in the guru.
When the guru is pleased, Hari is pleased, and when he is pleased, so are the gods; but the guru should not show affection for disciples as for his own son.
If he does, he incurs the sin of killing a Brahmin and suffers without receiving blessings; a Brahmin devoted to his own dharma is always pure.
