त्यक्तप्राणं मृतं दृष्ट्वा मृत्युं च लभते ध्रुवम् । मत्स्यादि धारयेद्यो हि तद्भ्रातुर्मरणं ध्रुवम्
Upon seeing someone dead, having abandoned life, one will certainly meet death; and whoever wears fish or similar things will surely cause the death of his brother.
वाद्यं च नर्तनं गीतं गायनं रक्तवाससम् । मृदङ्गवाद्यमानं तं दृष्ट्वा दुःखं लभेद्ध्रुवम्
Upon seeing music, dance, singing, chanting, someone in red garments, or the playing of the drum, one will certainly encounter suffering.
छिन्नं वाऽपि कबन्धं वा विकृतं मुक्तकेशिनम् । क्षिपं नृत्यं च कुर्वन्तं दृष्ट्वा मृत्युं लभेन्नरः
Upon seeing someone mutilated, headless, deformed, with loose hair, or performing wild dancing, a person will meet death.
मृतो वाऽपि मृता वाऽपि कृष्णा म्लेच्छा भयानका । उपगूहति यं स्वप्ने तस्य मृत्युर्विनिश्चितम्
If, in a dream, one embraces a dead man or woman, a dark or terrifying foreigner, death is certain for that person.
येषां दन्ताश्च भग्नाश्च केशाश्चापि पतन्ति हि । धनहानिर्भवेत्तस्य पीडा वा तच्छरीरजा
For those whose teeth are broken or whose hair falls out, loss of wealth or bodily affliction will occur.
उपद्रवन्ति यं स्वप्ने श्रृङ्गिणो दंष्ट्रिणोऽपि वा । बालका मानवाश्चैव तस्य राजकुलाद्भयम्
If, in a dream, one is attacked by horned or fanged beings, or by children or men, fear from the royal family will come to him.
छिन्नवृङं पतन्तं च शिलावृष्टिं तुषंक्षुरम् । रक्ताङ्गारं भस्मवृष्टिं दृष्ट्वा दुःखमावाप्नुयात्
Upon seeing a severed limb, something falling, a shower of stones, husks, razors, red embers, or a rain of ashes, one will encounter suffering.
गृहं पतन्तं शैलं वा धूमकेतुं भयानकम् । भग्नस्कन्धं तरोर्वाऽपि दृष्ट्वा दुःखमवाप्नुयात्
Upon seeing a house, mountain, or comet falling, or a tree with a broken branch, one will encounter suffering.
रथगेहशैलवृक्षगोहस्तितुरगाम्बरात् । भूमौ पतति यः स्वप्ने विपत्तिस्तस्य निश्चितम्
If, in a dream, one falls from a chariot, house, mountain, tree, cow, elephant, horse, or sky onto the ground, calamity is certain for him.
उच्चैः पतन्ति गर्तेषु भस्माङ्गारयुतेषु च । क्षारकुण्डेषु चूर्णेषु मृत्युस्तेषां न संशयः
Those who fall from heights into pits filled with ashes and embers, or into caustic pools or powders, for them there is no doubt of death.
बलाद्गृह्णाति दुष्टश्चच्छत्रं च यस्य मस्तकात् । पितुर्नाशो भवेत्तस्य गुरोर्वाऽपि नृपस्य वा
If an evil person forcibly takes the umbrella from someone's head, the destruction of his father, teacher, or king will occur.
सुरभिर्यस्य गेहाच्च याति त्रस्ता सवत्मिका । प्रयाति पापिनस्तस्य लक्ष्मीरपि वसुंधरा
If the cow, frightened, leaves the house with her calf, even Lakshmi and the earth will depart from the sinner.
पाशेन कृत्वा बद्वं च यं गृहीत्वा प्रयान्ति च । यमदूताश्च ये म्लेच्छास्तस्य मृत्युर्विनिश्चितम्
If, with a noose, someone is bound and taken away by messengers of Yama or foreigners, death is certain for him.
गणको ब्राह्मणो वाऽपि ब्राह्मणी वा गुरुस्तथा । परिरुष्टः शपति यं विपत्तिस्तस्य निश्चितम्
If a mathematician, Brahmin, Brahmin woman, or teacher curses someone, calamity is certain for him.
विरोधिनश्य काकाश्च कुक्कुटा भल्लुकास्तथा । पतन्त्यागत्य यद्गात्रे तस्य मृत्युर्न संशयः
If crows, roosters, or bears, being hostile, come and fall upon someone's body, there is no doubt of death for him.
महिषा भल्लुका उष्ट्रा सूकरा गर्दभास्तथा । रुष्टा धावन्ति यं स्वप्ने स रोगी निश्चितं भवेत्
If buffaloes, bears, camels, pigs, or donkeys, enraged, chase someone in a dream, he will certainly become diseased.
रक्तचन्दनकाष्ठानि घृताक्तानि जुहोति यः । गायत्र्याश्च महस्रेण तेन शान्तिर्विधीयते
Whoever offers pieces of red sandalwood anointed with ghee, accompanied by the thousand-syllabled Gayatri, by that is peace established.
सहस्रधा चपेद्यो हि भक्त्यैनं मधुसूदनम् । निष्पाणो हि भवेत्सोऽपि दुःस्वप्नः सुस्वप्नो भवेत्
He who, with devotion, praises Madhusudana a thousand times, even if he has seen an evil dream, it becomes auspicious.
अच्युतं केशवं विष्णुं हरिं सत्यं जनार्दनम् । हंसं नारायणं चैव ह्येतन्नामाष्टकं शुभम्
Acyuta, Keshava, Vishnu, Hari, Satya, Janardana, Hamsa, and Narayana—these eight auspicious names,
शुचिः पूर्वमुखः प्राज्ञो दशकृत्वश्च यो जपेत् । निष्पापोऽपि भवेत्सोऽपि दुःस्वप्नः शुभवान्भवेत्
He who, pure and facing east, wise, recites these ten times, even if he has seen an evil dream, it becomes auspicious.
विष्णुं नारायणं कृष्णं माधवं मधुमूदनम् । हरिं नरहरिं रामं गोविन्दं दधिवामनम्
Vishnu, Narayana, Krishna, Madhava, Madhusudana, Hari, Narahari, Rama, Govinda, Dadhivamana—
भक्त्या चेमानि नामानि दश भद्राणियो जपेत् । शतकृत्यो भक्तियुक्तो जप्त्वा नीरोगतां व्रजेत्
Whoever recites these ten auspicious names with devotion, a hundred times with devotion, attains freedom from disease.
लक्षधा हि जपेद्यो हि बन्धनान्मुच्यते ध्रुवम् । जप्त्वा च दशलक्षं च महावन्ध्या प्रसूयते
He who recites a hundred thousand times is certainly freed from bondage; and having recited a million times, even a great barren woman bears a child.
हविष्याशी यतः शुद्धो दरिद्रो धनवान्भवेत् । शतलक्षं च जप्त्वा च जीवन्मुक्तो भवेन्नरः
He who, pure and eating sacrificial food, is poor, becomes wealthy; and having recited a hundred thousand times, a man becomes liberated while living.
ओं नमः शिवं दुर्गां गणपतिं कार्तिकेयं दिनेश्वनम् । धर्मं गङ्गां च तुलसीं राधां लक्ष्मीं सरस्वतीम्
Om, obeisance to Shiva, Durga, Ganapati, Kartikeya, the Lord of the Day, Dharma, Ganga, Tulasi, Radha, Lakshmi, Sarasvati—
नामान्येतानि भद्राणि जले स्नात्वा च यो जपेत् । वाञ्छितं च लभेत्सोऽपि दुःस्वप्नः शुभवान्भवेत्
Whoever, having bathed in water, recites these auspicious names, obtains his desired wish, and even an evil dream becomes auspicious.
ओं ह्रीं क्लीं पूर्वदूर्गतिनाशिन्यै महामायायै स्वाहा । कल्पवृक्षो हि लोकानां सन्त्रः सप्तदशाक्षरः
Om hrim klim, to the great Maya who destroys previous misfortune, svaha; this seventeen-syllabled mantra is indeed the wish-fulfilling tree for the worlds.
शुचिश्च दशधा जप्त्वा दुःस्वप्नः सुखवान्भवेत् । शतलक्षजपेनैव मन्त्रसिद्धिर्भवेन्नृणाम्
Reciting it ten times with purity, an evil dream becomes pleasant; by reciting it a hundred thousand times, the mantra becomes perfected for people.
सिद्धमन्त्रस्तु लभते सर्वसिद्धिं च वाञ्छितम् । ओं नमो मृत्युंजयायेति स्वाहान्तं लक्षधा जपेत्
The perfected mantra bestows all desired accomplishments; 'Om namo Mrityunjaya'—reciting this with 'svaha' a hundred thousand times,
दृष्ट्वा च मरणं स्वप्ने शतायुश्च भवेन्नरः । पूर्वोत्तरमुखो भूत्वा स्वप्नं प्राज्ञे प्रकाशयेत्
Having seen death in a dream, a man becomes long-lived; facing east or north, he should reveal the dream to a wise person.
