तमुपैमि स्वयं सिद्धं भक्तस्त्वन्यन्न वाञ्छति । द्वाविंशतिविधं सिद्धं सिद्धिसाधनकारणम्
I myself approach that perfected one; the devotee desires nothing else; the twenty-two kinds of perfection are the means for attaining perfection.
मन्मुखाच्छूयतां नन्द सिद्धमन्त्रं गृहाण च । अणिमा लघिमा प्राप्तिः प्राकाम्यं महिमा तथा
Hear from my mouth, O Nanda, the perfected mantra and receive it: aṇimā, laghimā, prāpti, prākāmya, and also mahimā.
ईशित्वं च वशित्वं च तथा कामावसायिता । दूरश्रवणमेवेति परकायप्रवेशनम्
Mastery, control, fulfillment of desires, hearing from afar, entering another's body.
मनोयायित्वमेवेति सर्वज्ञत्वमभीप्सितम् । वह्निस्तम्भं जलस्तम्भं चिरंजीवित्वमेव च
Traveling by mind, omniscience, fire-stopping, water-stopping, and long life.
वायुस्तम्भं क्षुत्पिपासानिद्रास्तम्भनमेव च । कायव्यूहं च वाक्सिद्धिं मृतानयनमौप्सितम्
Stopping wind, hunger, thirst, and sleep; bodily transformation, speech-perfection, and the desired bringing back of the dead.
सृष्टीनां करणं चैव प्राणाकर्षणमेव च । ॐ सर्वेश्वरेश्वराय सर्वदिघ्नविनाशिने मधुसूदनाय स्वाहेति
Creation of worlds and drawing in of life-force; 'Om, to the Lord of all lords, destroyer of all directions, Madhusudana, svaha.'
अयं सन्त्रो महागूढः सर्वेषां कल्पपादपः । सामवेदे च कथितः मिद्धानां सर्वमिद्धिदः
This mantra is most secret, the wish-fulfilling tree for all; it is spoken in the Sama Veda, and grants all desired attainments to the wise.
अनेन योगिनः सिद्धा मुनीन्द्राश्च सुरास्तथा । शतलक्षजपेनैव मन्त्रसिद्धिर्भवेत्सताम्
By this, yogis, perfected sages, and gods too, attain perfection; by reciting it a hundred thousand times, mantra-perfection is achieved by the virtuous.
यदि नारायणक्षेत्रे हविष्यान्नरतो जपेत् । गत्वा कुरु जपं तातकाशिकां मणिकर्णिकाम्
If one recites it in the field of Narayana, while eating sacrificial food, or goes to Kashi and Maṇikarṇika to perform the recitation.
श्रृशु नारायणक्षेत्रै जलाधस्तच्चतुष्टयम् । अत्र नारायणः स्वामी नान्यः स्वामी कदाचन
Hear about the four Narayana fields beneath the waters; here, Narayana is the Lord, and no other is ever the Lord.
ज्ञानं चात्र मृते लोके मूर्तिर्भवति तस्य वै । व्रतं विनाऽपि मन्त्रेण जीवन्मुक्तो न संशयः
Here, knowledge becomes embodied in the world of the dead; even without observance, by the mantra, one is liberated while living—no doubt.
व्रजं कुरु पवित्रं च व्रजनाथ व्रजं व्रज । पापं यद्दर्शने तात कथयामि निशामय
Go to the pure Vraja, O Lord of Vraja, go to Vraja; I will tell you, dear one, listen, of the sin destroyed by its sight.
दुःस्वप्नं पापबौजं च केवलं विघ्नकारणम् । गोघ्नं च ब्राह्मणघ्नं वा कृतघ्नं कृटिलं तथा
An evil dream, sinful food, and anything that causes obstacles; the killing of a cow, the killing of a Brahmin, ingratitude, and deceit.
देवघ्नं पितृमातृघ्नं पापं विश्ववासघातिनम् । मिथ्यासाक्षिप्रदातारं यं चाऽऽतिथ्यविवञ्चनम्
The killing of a deity, the killing of one's father or mother, sin, the slaying of a universal benefactor; bearing false witness and deceiving a guest.
ग्रामयाजिनमेवेति देवविप्रस्वहारिणम् । अश्वत्थघातिनं दुष्टं शिवविष्णुविनिन्दकम्
One who sacrifices for the village alone, who steals from gods or Brahmins; the wicked killer of a fig tree, and one who reviles Shiva or Vishnu.
अदीक्षितमनाचारं संध्याहीनं द्विजं तथा । देवलं वृषवाहं च शूद्राणां सूपकारकम्
A twice-born who is undedicated, without proper conduct, who neglects the twilight rites; a temple servant, a bull-handler, and one who cooks for Shudras.
शवदाहं च शूद्राणां शूद्रश्राद्धान्नभोजिनम् । अवीरां छिन्ननासां च देवब्राह्मणनिन्दकाम्
One who cremates corpses for Shudras, who eats food from Shudra funeral rites; a woman without virtue, with a severed nose, and one who reviles gods or Brahmins.
पदिभक्तिविङीनां च विष्णुभक्तिविहीनकाम् । शूद्राणां विधवां चैव चाण्डालीं व्यभिचारिणीम्
One devoid of devotion to the feet, lacking devotion to Vishnu; a Shudra widow, a Chandala woman, and one who is adulterous.
शश्वत्कोपयुतं दुष्टमृणग्रस्तं च जारजम् । चौरं मिथ्यावादिनं च शरणागतयायिनम्
One who is perpetually angry, wicked, afflicted by debt, born of adultery; a thief, a liar, and one who abandons those who seek refuge.
मांसापहारिणं चैव ब्रह्मणं वृषलीपतिम् । ब्राह्मणीगामिरं शूद्र द्विजं वाधुर्षिकं तथा
One who takes meat, a Brahmin who marries a low-caste woman; a Brahmin who goes to a Shudra woman, or a twice-born who acts as a butcher.
अगम्यामामिनं दुष्टं चतुर्वणं नराधमम् । माता सपत्नीमाता च श्वश्रूश्च भगिनी सुता
One who approaches forbidden women, wicked, the lowest among men of all four castes; one's mother, stepmother, mother-in-law, sister, and daughter.
गुरुपत्नी पुत्रपत्नी सोदरस्य प्रिया सती । मातृष्वसा पितृष्वसा भामिनेयप्रिया तथा
The wife of the teacher, the wife of the son, the beloved of one's brother; maternal aunt, paternal aunt, and the beloved of one's cousin.
मातुलानी नवोढा य पितृव्यस्त्री रजस्वला । पितृमातृप्रसूश्चैव चागम्याष्टादश स्मृताः
Maternal uncle's wife, newly married woman, paternal uncle's wife during menstruation; and one born of one's father or mother—these eighteen are considered forbidden.
कीर्तिताः सामवेदे च परिपाल्याः सतां व्रज । एता दृष्ट्वा च स्पृष्ट्वा च ब्रह्महत्यां लभेन्नरः
These are mentioned in the Sama Veda and must be avoided by the virtuous; seeing or touching them causes a man to incur the sin of killing a Brahmin.
तस्माद्दैवेन ता दृष्ट्वा सूर्यं दृष्ट्वा हरिं स्मरेत् । कामतो यदि पश्यन्ति विनिन्द्यास्ते भवन्ति वै
Therefore, upon seeing them by fate, one should remember Hari after seeing the sun; if seen intentionally, they become blameworthy.
तस्मात्सन्तो न पश्यन्ति शापभीता व्रजेश्वर । राहुग्रस्तं रविं सोभं न पश्यन्ति विपश्चितः
Thus, the wise do not look upon them, fearing a curse, O Lord of Vraja; the learned do not look at the sun when it is eclipsed by Rahu.
जन्माष्टसप्तरिः फाङ्कदशमस्थे दिवाकरे । जन्मर्क्षे निधने चापि चतुर्थेऽपि कलानिधौ
On the eighth, seventh, or tenth day of birth, when the sun is in the birth constellation, at death, or on the fourth day during the lunar phase.
सर्वैरंशैर्न पश्यन्ति कम्पितं चन्द्रभास्करम् । नेष्टचन्द्रो न दृश्यश्य भाद्रे मासि सितासिते
On all these occasions, they do not look at the trembling moon or sun; the moon is not to be seen, whether bright or dark, in the month of Bhadra.
चतुर्थ्यामुदितश्चन्द्रः परित्यक्तो मनीषिमिः । चन्द्रस्तारापहरणं कलङ्गमतिदुष्करम्
On the fourth day, when the moon rises, the wise abandon it; the moon's eclipse and its blemish are considered extremely inauspicious.
तस्मै ददाति हे नन्द कामतो दि पश्यति । अकामतो नरो दृष्ट्वा मन्त्रपूतं जलं पिबेत्
To such a one, O Nanda, if seen intentionally, desire is given; if seen unintentionally, one should drink water purified by mantra.
