O Nalinī, O Nandinī, O Sītā, O Mālinī, O great river,
O Padmāvatī, O Bhogavatī, O Svarṇarekhā, O Kauśikī,
O Vidyādharī, O Suprasannā, and also O Lokaprasādhinī,
O Sāvitrī, O Tulasī, O Durgā, O Mahālakṣmī, O Sarasvatī,
O Ahalyā, O Aditi, O Saṃjñā, O Svadhā, O Svāhā, and O Arundhatī,
Having bathed repeatedly, being greatly purified, the wise one should then apply the tilaka mark.
Bathing, giving, austerity, oblation, and rites for the gods and ancestors—
A brāhmaṇa, having applied the tilaka, should perform the twilight worship and the offering of water.
Carefully washing the feet and putting on clean garments,
Whoever, after bathing, enters the temple without washing the feet,
Having put on smooth clothing, the householder should enter the house.
And if a Brāhmaṇa washes his feet only above the shins,
Sitting on a seat, O Brāhmaṇa, the pure practitioner should sip water for purification.
Whether at the Śālagrāma stone, in a gem, with a mantra, at an image, in water, or on land—
In all these, worship is praiseworthy, and especially at the Śālagrāma, O Nārada.
He is as if bathed in all sacred waters and initiated in all sacrifices.
Whoever daily drinks water from the Śālagrāma stone with devotion,
Wherever the Śālagrāma stone and its disc are present, O Nārada,
Whoever dies there, knowingly or unknowingly, attains the divine.
Apart from the Śālagrāma, who else, being virtuous, would worship Hari elsewhere?
The basis of worship has been described; now listen to the order of worship.
Some offer sixteen items of service to Hari,
Some offer twelve substances, and some offer five.
A seat, garment, water for washing the feet, arghya, and water for sipping—
Fragrant substances, garlands, and a delightful, distinguished bed—
Except for fragrance, food, bedding, and betel, the other twelve items are required.
The excellent practitioner should offer all these with their root.
First, perform purification of the elements, then proceed with breath control.
After completing the placement of syllables, designate the vessel for offering.
Fill the conch with water and place it there, O twice-born.
