He does not have the right to cook for the ancestors or the gods; nor to eat food from village priests or food offered at a Shudra's funeral.
After eating such food, one goes to hell as long as the moon and sun endure; Brahmins who eat that food on the day of a Shudra's funeral.
They are cooked in the hell Kumbhipaka for a hundred years of Brahma; whoever, permitted by a Shudra, eats elsewhere on the day of a funeral.
He is to be known as a drinker of liquor, excluded from all duties; one who lives by the sword, by ink, a temple priest, or a bull driver.
A Brahmin who cremates Shudras or is the leader of Shudras should be expelled like a Shudra; such food is considered impure for the virtuous.
Whoever does not perform the morning or evening rituals should be expelled like a Shudra from all Brahminical duties; one without the twilight worship is always impure and unfit for all rites; whatever action he performs that day, he does not obtain its fruit.
A Brahmin who worships with left-handed mantras goes to hell; likewise, one who relieves himself in a river, a pit, at the root of a tree, or near water.
A wise person should not excrete near the gods, in a field of crops, or on an anthill, in a mouse hole, or in muddy water.
O lord of Vraja, one should not take earth that remains after cleaning, nor earth from a house that is tainted, nor earth inhabited by insects or creatures within, nor earth that has been dug up by a plough.
Likewise, O Nanda, one should not take earth that has sprouted with grass, nor earth from a cultivated field, nor earth from the root of a tree, nor earth from the bed of a river.
All these types of earth should be completely abandoned for the purpose of purification; a woman who crushes gourds, a man who extinguishes lamps—
—such a person will be diseased for seven births, and poor in every birth. One should not abandon a lamp, a Śivaliṅga, a Śālagrāma stone, or a gem—
—nor an image, a sacred thread, gold, a conch, a diamond, a pearl, cow urine, cow dung, or ghee.
If someone abandons water from a Śālagrāma stone on the ground, he will go to hell: he becomes poor, miserable, afflicted with leprosy, without lineage, and without a wife.
He becomes landless, childless, friendless, and contemptible; blind, lame, dwarfish, crippled, or without limbs.
Gradually, he becomes sinful—whoever abandons these things on the ground. Whoever sleeps or engages in intercourse with a woman at the two twilights—
—will be diseased for seven births, and poor for seven births. Whoever brushes his teeth at sunrise, the lord of the worlds—
—such a great sinner, how can he say, 'I worship Janārdana'? Whether with earth, ashes, cow dung, or even with sand—
—if one makes a liṅga and worships it even once, he will dwell in heaven for a hundred ages; by a thousand worships, he attains his desired result.
Whoever worships a hundred thousand times surely attains the state of Śiva. A brāhmaṇa who worships the liṅga becomes liberated while living.
A brāhmaṇa who neglects the worship of Śiva goes to hell. Those men who revile Śiva, who is most dear to me and worshipped by me—
—they are tormented in hell for as many years as a hundred of Brahmā. If, when worshipping the Śivaliṅga, there is hair or sand—
—he becomes utterly blind, or, by the sand or hair, he becomes a barbarian; he becomes low, poor, miserable, diseased, and contemptible.
He suffers loss of respect from all, and is born in lowly wombs. Among all beloved objects, and among those dear to Brahmā and to me—
—Lakṣmī, who always dwells on the chest of Brahmā, is dearer; but Rādhā is dearer than her, and my devotees are dearer still.
But there is none dearer to me than Śaṅkara; none is dearer to me than Śaṅkara. Whoever chants 'Mahādeva, Mahādeva, Mahādeva'—
Afterwards, I become satisfied, yet due to greed for hearing My name, My mind is rooted in devotion, and indeed, My very life is of the essence of Rādhā.
My self is the abode of Śaṃkara, who is dearer than life itself; the primordial power is Nārāyaṇī, who brings about creation, preservation, and dissolution.
By whom I create the universe, by whom the gods beginning with Brahmā exist, by whom the world is victorious, and by whom creation is born.
Without whom the universe does not exist—she whom I have given to Śiva—she is compassion, sleep, satisfaction of hunger, thirst, faith, forgiveness, and fortitude.
