The deities prescribed in the scriptures, bestowers of liberation and destroyers of karma—Gaṇeśa for removing obstacles, Sūrya for destroying disease—
Fire is worshipped for attainment, for peace and purity without fail; Viṣṇu for liberation, and Śaṃkara for the gift of knowledge.
The wise should worship Pārvatī for intelligence and liberation, offering three handfuls of flowers, then recite auspicious hymns and protective prayers.
Having bowed to and worshipped the Guru, then bowing to the deity, having performed the worship without hypocrisy, one should conclude as is pleasing.
One should perform one's own prescribed duties as taught in the Vedas for the purification of the self; the wise should not look upon excrement, which is the very form of the seed of disease.
Urine and the seed of disease are indeed causes of hell; the sexual organ and the womb bestow sin, suffering, disease, and poverty.
The thighs, mouth, breasts of women, their glances and laughter, as well as beauty, are always seeds of destruction and causes of misfortune.
One should avoid daytime enjoyment with one's own wife and idle talk with her, for these are causes of diseases of the eyes and ears.
One should not look at the sky with one eye, out of fear of diseases; if seen by fate, remembering Hari, one should recite the Nārada mantra seven times.
One should not look at the sun or moon at dusk, as it is a cause of disease; nor should one look at the crescent or eclipsed moon, as it is a cause of disease.
If a man sees the sun or moon reflected in water, he will experience sorrow; one should not witness sexual union, as it causes separation from relatives.
One should not sleep, stay, eat, or travel together with a sinner; all these are signs of destruction.
From conversation, bodily contact, sharing a bed or seat, and eating together, sins certainly spread, just as an oil drop spreads in water.
One should not go near violent creatures, as it is a cause of suffering; nor should one associate with wicked people, as it is a cause of grief.
One should not harm or injure brāhmaṇas, cows, or especially Vaiṣṇavas, for such acts are causes of total ruin.
One should not steal the wealth or possessions of gods, temples, brāhmaṇas, or Vaiṣṇavas, for this is a cause of total destruction.
Whoever steals what he himself has given, what others have given, or what is dedicated to Brahman, is born as a worm in excrement for sixty thousand years.
He becomes a vulture for ten million births, a pig for a hundred births, a wild beast for a hundred births, and a lizard for seven births.
He becomes a horse for seven births, a crocodile for five births, and certainly an insect in the wombs of unchaste women for a hundred births.

He becomes a cruel serpent, a tiger, a buffalo for seven births, a frog for a hundred births, and a goat for seven births.
A bear for a hundred births, a jackal for a hundred thousand births; thereafter, one becomes a leech, certainly, due to the theft of Brahman’s wealth.
Sinners who steal from Brahman are cooked in Kumbhipaka hell for a hundred years; if, at that time, they do not give food to a Brahmin as a donation.
If a single night passes, the merit of that donation becomes double; after a month, it is said to be a hundredfold, and after two months, a thousandfold.
If a year passes, the donor goes to hell; the foolish donor does not give, nor does the recipient ask.
Both go to hell; the donor becomes afflicted with disease. Having harmed Brahmins, one certainly suffers the destruction of their lineage.
Abandoning wealth and Lakshmi, one becomes a beggar while wandering; seeing the deity or Brahman and not bowing, one attains impurity.
Whoever does not show devotion to the guru attains Raurava hell; a foolish woman of bad conduct who sees her husband as Hari.
If she does not see him after threatening, she certainly goes to Kumbhipaka hell; from verbal threats one becomes a crow, from violence one becomes a pig.
