पुत्रबुद्धिं परित्यज्य भज मां ब्रह्मरूपिणम् । छित्तवा च ब्रह्मनिगडं गोलोकं तद्व्रज स्वयम्
Abandon the notion of sonship and worship me as Brahman. Having broken the bondage of the mind, go yourself to Goloka.
कथयस्व यशोदां च गोपीं गोपगणां व्रज । तैश्च सर्वैर्जनैः शोकं त्यज स्वमन्दिरं व्रज
Speak of Yashoda, the gopis, the cowherds, and Vraja. With all these people, abandon sorrow and go to your own home.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा भगवान्विरराम च संसदि । पप्रच्छ पुनरेवं तं नन्दश्चाऽऽनन्दसंप्लुतः
Having spoken thus, the Lord ceased in the assembly. Nanda, overflowing with joy, again questioned him.
नन्द उवाच वद सांसारिकं ज्ञानं येन यास्यामि त्वत्पदम् । मूढोऽहं परमानन्द श्रुतीनां जनको भवान्
Nanda said: Tell me the worldly knowledge by which I may reach your feet. I am ignorant, O Supreme Bliss; you are the origin of the Vedas.
नन्दस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वज्ञो भगवान्स्वयम् । आह्निकं कथयायास श्रुतिभिर्न श्रुतं हि यत्
Hearing Nanda's words, the all-knowing Lord himself began to speak daily teachings, which are not heard even in the Vedas.
इतिo श्रीब्रह्मo महाo श्रीकृष्णजन्मखo उत्तo नारादनाo भगवन्नन्दसंवादे चतुः सप्ततितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the seventy-fourth chapter in the great Brahma Purana, concerning the birth of Shri Krishna, the conversation between Narada and the blessed Nanda.
अथ पञ्चसप्ततितमोऽध्यायः श्रीभगवानुवाच शृणु नन्द प्रवक्ष्यामि ज्ञानं च परमाद्भुतम् । सुगोपनीयं वेदेषु पुराणेषु च दुर्लभम्
The Blessed Lord said: Listen, O Nanda, I will declare to you a knowledge most wonderful, well concealed in the Vedas and rare even in the Purāṇas.
न विश्वासो हि नारीषु संततं कुलटासु च । मोक्षमार्गार्गलास्वेव भ्रममायास्वमूषु च
One should never place trust in women, nor in those of loose conduct, nor in those who obstruct the path to liberation, nor in those who wander in delusion.
हरिभक्तेरसाध्वीनां विरुद्धासु युतासु च । बीजरूपासु नाशानां प्रमदासु व्रजेश्वर
O King of Vraja, among women who are unfaithful to devotion for Hari, who are opposed and associated with destruction in seed form, there is ruin.
नित्यं च प्रातरुत्थाय रात्रिवासो विहाय च । अभीष्टदेवं हृत्पद्मे ब्रह्मरन्ध्रे गृरुं परम्
Rising every morning, leaving the bed of night, one should meditate upon the desired deity in the lotus of the heart, at the crown of the head, as the supreme Guru.
विचिन्त्य मनसा प्रातःकृत्यं कृत्वा सुनिश्चितम् । स्नानं करोति सुप्राज्ञो निर्मलेषु जलेषु च
Having resolved in mind the duties of the morning, the wise person bathes in pure waters after careful consideration.
न संकल्पं च कुरुते भक्तः कर्मनिकृन्तनः । स्नात्वा हरिं स्मरेत्संध्यां कृत्वा याति गृहं प्रति
The devotee, who cuts through karma, does not make ritual intentions; after bathing, he remembers Hari, performs the twilight worship, and then returns home.
प्रक्षाल्य पादौ प्रविशेन्निधाय धौतवाससी । पूजयोत्परमात्मानं मामेव मुक्तिकारणम्
Having washed his feet and entered, putting on clean garments, he should worship the Supreme Self—me alone—the cause of liberation.
शालग्रामे मणौ यन्त्रे प्रतिमायां जलेऽपि च । तथा च विप्रे गवि च गुरुष्वेवं विशेषतः
Whether in the Śālagrāma stone, in a gem, in a diagram, in an image, in water, in a brāhmaṇa, in a cow, or especially in the Guru, one should worship.
घटिऽष्टदलपद्मे च पात्रे चन्दननिर्मिते । आवाहनं च सर्वत्र शालग्रामे जलेन च
In a pot, in the eight-petaled lotus, in a vessel made of sandalwood, one should invoke the Lord everywhere, and in the Śālagrāma with water.
मन्त्रानुरूपध्यानेन ध्यात्वा मां पूजयेद्व्रती । षोडशोपचारद्रव्याणि दद्यान्मूलेन भक्तितः
Meditating on me according to the proper mantra, the vow-holder should worship, offering with devotion the sixteen kinds of ritual articles in their original form.
श्रीदामानं मुदामानं वसुदामानमेव च । वीरभानुं शूरभानुं गोपान्पञ्च प्रपूजयेत्
He should worship Śrīdāmā, Mudāmā, Vasudāmā, Vīrabhānu, Śūrabhānu, and the five cowherd companions.
सुनन्दनन्दकुमुदं पार्षदं मे सुदर्शनम् । लक्ष्मीं सरस्वतीं दुर्गां राधां गङ्गां वसुंधराम्
He should worship Sunanda, Nanda, Kumuda, my attendant Sudarśana, Lakṣmī, Sarasvatī, Durgā, Rādhā, Gaṅgā, and the Earth goddess.
गुरुं च तुलसीं शंभुं कार्तिकेयं विनायकम् । नवग्रहांश्च दिक्पालान्परितः पूजयेत्सुधीः
The wise should worship the Guru, Tulasī, Śaṃbhu, Kārtikeya, Vināyaka, the nine planets, and the guardians of the directions all around.
देवषट्कं च संपूज्य सर्वादौ विघ्नविघ्नतः । गणेशं च दिनेशं च वह्निं विष्णुं शिवं शिवम्
Having worshipped the sixfold group of deities at the outset to remove obstacles, one should worship Gaṇeśa, the Sun, Fire, Viṣṇu, and Śiva.
श्रुतौ विनिर्मितान्देवान्मोक्षदान्कर्मकृन्तनान् । गणेशं विघ्ननाशाय सूर्यं व्याधिविनाशिने
The deities prescribed in the scriptures, bestowers of liberation and destroyers of karma—Gaṇeśa for removing obstacles, Sūrya for destroying disease—
वह्निं प्राप्तिनिमित्तेन शान्तौ शुद्धौ भवेद्ध्रुवम् । विष्णुं मोक्षनिमित्तेन ज्ञानदानाय शंकरम्
Fire is worshipped for attainment, for peace and purity without fail; Viṣṇu for liberation, and Śaṃkara for the gift of knowledge.
बुद्धिमुक्तिनिमित्तेन पार्वतीं पूजयेत्सुधीः । पुष्पाञ्जलित्रयं दत्त्वा स्वस्तोत्रं कवचं पठेत्
The wise should worship Pārvatī for intelligence and liberation, offering three handfuls of flowers, then recite auspicious hymns and protective prayers.
गुरुं प्रणम्य संपूज्य तत्पश्चात्प्रणमेत्सुरम् । कृत्वाऽऽह्रिकं च संपूज्य यथासुखमुदीरितम्
Having bowed to and worshipped the Guru, then bowing to the deity, having performed the worship without hypocrisy, one should conclude as is pleasing.
समाचरेत्स्वकर्मैतद्वेदोक्तं स्वात्मशुद्धये । विष्ठां न पश्येत्प्राज्ञश्च व्याधिबीजस्वरूपिणीम्
One should perform one's own prescribed duties as taught in the Vedas for the purification of the self; the wise should not look upon excrement, which is the very form of the seed of disease.
मूत्रं च व्याधिबीजं च परं नरककारणम् । लिङ्गंयोनिं पापदुःखव्याधिदारिद्र्यदायिनीम्
Urine and the seed of disease are indeed causes of hell; the sexual organ and the womb bestow sin, suffering, disease, and poverty.
उरुं मुखं स्तनं स्त्रीणां कटाक्षं हास्यमेव च । विनाशबीजं रूपं च विपदां कारणं सदा
The thighs, mouth, breasts of women, their glances and laughter, as well as beauty, are always seeds of destruction and causes of misfortune.
दिवाभोगं च स्वस्त्रीणां स्वालापं परिवर्जयेत् । रोगाणो कारणं चैव चक्षुषोः कर्णयोस्तथा
One should avoid daytime enjoyment with one's own wife and idle talk with her, for these are causes of diseases of the eyes and ears.
एकतारं च गगनं न पश्येत्तु रुजां भयात् । दैवाद्दृष्ट्वा हरिं स्मृत्वा सप्तधा नारदं जपेत्
One should not look at the sky with one eye, out of fear of diseases; if seen by fate, remembering Hari, one should recite the Nārada mantra seven times.
अस्तकाले रविं चन्द्रं न पश्येद् व्याधिकारणम् । खण्डं मसुदितं चन्द्रं न पश्येद् व्याधिकारणम्
One should not look at the sun or moon at dusk, as it is a cause of disease; nor should one look at the crescent or eclipsed moon, as it is a cause of disease.
