I am the form of all causes, and there is no higher cause than me; I am the supreme mistress of all, and for me there is no lord; indeed, I am the cause of all causes.
The wise declare me to be the source of all beings and all seeds; but those deluded by my own maya, the sinful, do not know me.
Though I am the very self of all creatures, and their true master, I am not honored by those whose minds are clouded by sin and deceived by fate.
Wherever I am, there too are the powers, along with hunger, thirst, and the rest; when I depart, they also depart from the human body, following after me.
O king of Vraja, Nanda, my father, having understood this knowledge, go to Vraja and tell Radha, Yashoda, and also impart this knowledge.
Having understood this knowledge, the lord of Vraja went together with his followers; and arriving there, he spoke it to those two foremost among women.
And all of them, O Narada, abandoned their sorrow through this great knowledge; though Krishna is untouched, the lord of maya, yet he delights in maya.
Urged by Yashoda, Nanda returned to Madhava and praised the blissful one, the son of Nanda.
Standing before his son, he recited the hymn from the Sama Veda, composed by Brahma in ancient times, and wept again and again.
Narayana said: Sri Krishna, the supreme bliss, the most complete lord, the supreme self, is the highest, bestower of grace to devotees.
He who relieves the burden of the earth, who is beyond qualities and beyond nature, the supreme soul, the blessed lord, worshipped by Brahma, Shiva, and Shesha.
Pleased by Nanda's hymn, the lord of the world spoke to him as he came from Gokula, afflicted by the fever of separation.
The Blessed Lord said: Go, Nanda, to Vraja; abandon sorrow and confusion on earth; hear the supreme truth, the highest knowledge, which cuts the knot of grief.
Air, earth, space, water, and the fifth, fire—these are declared by the many scriptures to be the five elements, always present.
The body of all embodied beings, O father, is made of these five elements; it is a false, artificial illusion, like a dream, endowed with maya.
These five elements always assume the form of the body for all; that form, marked by maya, is recognized through delusion.
Who is whose son, O father? Who is a woman, and whose husband is she? Through karma, all wander endlessly, in countless births.
By karma beings are born, and by karma alone they perish; happiness, sorrow, fear, and grief—all are attained through karma.
For some, birth occurs in the heavenly realms; for others, in the house of Brahma. For some, among Brahmins and Kshatriyas; for others, among Vaishyas and Shudras.
For some, among those of extremely low status; for others, among worms and in excrement. For some, among animals and birds; for others, among small creatures.
Again and again, all wander, O dear one, according to their own actions. My devotee, who is always dear to me, performs actions that uproot karma.
Satya, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali—these are the four ages. At the end of twenty-five thousand years, the destruction of Manu occurs.
The lifespan of Manu is equal to that of Mahendra. When fourteen Indras have passed, it is called a day of Brahma.
Thus, the night is measured, established by those who know time. In this way, months and years are also precisely determined.
A hundred years of Brahma is the supreme lifespan allotted. At Brahma's end, this time is but a blink of an eye for me.
From Brahma down to the blade of grass, all in the universe is created. I am the truth, the Supreme Self, the embodiment of grace for devotees.
One who worships me with my mantra, truly, after leaving the body on earth, will go to Goloka, having cut off ancient karma.
Even at the fall of countless Brahmas, he does not fall. He always attains his own body, free from birth, death, and old age.
O Nanda, for my devotees, there is never any misfortune. Sudarshana always protects them from harm.
My devotee is stronger than I am; I am remembered, not forgotten. I am his master alone; for me, there is no master, father, or progenitor.
