ब्रह्मादिस्तम्बपर्यन्तमसंख्यं विश्वमेव च । सर्वं चराचराधारं यः सृजत्येव लीलया
He who, by his play, creates the countless universe from Brahma down to the blade of grass, the support of all moving and unmoving beings—
ब्रह्मेशशेषधर्माश्च दिनेशश्च गणेश्वरः । मुनीन्द्रवर्गो देवेन्द्रो ध्यायते यमहर्निशम्
Brahma, Shiva, Shesha, Dharma, the Sun, Ganesha, the hosts of great sages, and Indra, all meditate upon him day and night.
वेदाः स्तुपन्ति यं कृष्णं स्तौति भीता सरस्वती । स्तौति यं प्रकृतिर्हृष्टा प्राकृतं प्रकृतेः परम्
The Vedas praise Krishna, Sarasvati praises him in fear, Prakriti joyfully extols him, who is beyond Prakriti and the primal cause.
स्वेच्छामयं निरीहं च निर्गुणं च निरञ्जनम् । परात्परतरं ब्रह्म परमात्मानमीश्वरम्
He is formed of his own will, without desire, without qualities, stainless, the Supreme beyond the supreme, the Absolute, the highest Self, the Lord.
नित्यं ज्योतिःस्वरूपं च भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहम् । नित्यानन्दं च नित्यं च नित्यमक्षरविग्रहम्
He is eternally of the nature of light, the embodiment of grace to his devotees, eternal bliss, eternal, and the imperishable form.
सोऽवतीर्णों हि भगवान्भारावतरणाय च । गोपालबालवेषश्च मायेशो मायया प्रभुः
That Lord has indeed descended to relieve the burden of the earth, taking the form of a cowherd boy, the master of Maya, wielding Maya as his power.
स यं हन्ति च सर्वेशो रक्षिता तस्य कः पुमान् । स यं रक्षति सर्वात्मा तस्य हन्ता न कोऽपि च
He whom the Lord of all destroys—who can protect him? He whom the Self of all protects—there is no one who can destroy him.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा सर्वश्च विरराम महामुने । ब्राह्मणान्भोजयामास तेभ्यः सर्वं धनं ददौ
Having spoken thus, O great sage, all became silent; he fed the Brahmins and gave them all his wealth.
भगवानपि सर्वात्मा जगाम पितुरन्तिकम् । छित्तवा च लोहनिगडं तयोर्मोक्षं चकार सः
The Lord, the Self of all, went to his father; he broke the iron shackles and released them both.
ननाम दण्डवद्भमौ मातरं पितरं तथा । तुष्टाव भक्त्तया देवेशो भक्तिनम्रात्मकंधरः
He bowed down on the ground before his mother and father, and the Lord of the gods praised them with devotion, his heart humbled by devotion.
श्रीभगवानुवाच पितरं मातरं विद्यामन्त्रदं गुरुमेव च । यो न पुष्णाति पुरुषो यावज्जीवं च सोऽशुचिः
The Blessed Lord said: A man who does not support his father, mother, teacher who gives knowledge and mantras, as long as he lives, is impure.
सर्वेषामपि पूज्यानां पिता वन्द्यो महान् गुरुः । पितुः शतगुणैर्माता गर्भधारणपोषणात्
Among all those worthy of reverence, the father is to be honored as the great teacher; but the mother is a hundred times greater than the father for bearing and nourishing the child.
माता च पृथिवीरूपा सर्वेभ्यश्च हिरैषिणी । नास्ति मातुः परो बन्धुः सर्वेषां जगतीतले
The mother is like the earth and more precious than all; there is no greater friend than the mother on the face of the world.
विद्यामन्त्रप्रदः कत्यं मातुः परतनो गुरुः । न हि तस्मात्परः कौऽपि वन्द्यः पूज्यश्च वेदतः
The teacher who gives knowledge and mantras is superior even to the mother; according to the Veda, there is no one more worthy of honor and worship than he.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा श्रीकृष्णो बलभद्रो ननाम च । माता चकारतौ क्रोडे पिता च सादरं मुने
Having spoken thus, Sri Krishna and Balarama bowed down; the mother embraced them on her lap, and the father received them with affection, O sage.
मिष्टान्नं परमं तौ च भोजयामास ब्राह्मणान् । वसुर्वसुसमूहं च ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ मुदा
They fed the Brahmins with the finest food, and joyfully gave them wealth and all kinds of riches.
अथ त्रिसप्ततितमोध्यायः नारायण उवाच अथ कृष्णश्च सानन्दं नन्दं तं पितरं बलः । बोधयामास शोकार्तं दिव्यैराध्यात्मिकादिभिः
Then, in the seventy-third chapter, Narayana said: Krishna, with joy, began to console his father Nanda, who was distressed, with divine spiritual teachings.
उच्चै रुदन्तं निश्चेष्टं पुत्रविच्चेदकातरम् । दत्त्वा तस्मै मणिश्रेष्ठमित्युवाच जगत्पतिः
Seeing him weeping loudly, motionless, and anguished by separation from his son, the Lord of the world gave him a precious gem and spoke.
श्रीभगवानुवाच निबोध नन्द सानन्दं त्यज शोकं मुदं लभ । ज्ञानं गृहाण मद्दत्तं यद्दतं ब्रह्मणे पुरा
The Blessed Lord said: Listen, Nanda, with joy; abandon grief and find happiness. Receive the knowledge I give, which was once given to Brahma.
यद्यद्दत्तं च शोषाय गणेशायेश्वराय च । दिनेशाय मुनीशाय योगीशाय च पुष्करे
Whatever was given for the drying up of suffering, to Ganesa, to Isvara, to the Sun, to the sages, to the lords of yoga at Pushkara—
कःकस्य पुत्रः कस्तातः का माता कस्यचित्कुतः। आयान्ति यान्ति संसारं परं स्वकृतकर्मणा
Who is whose son? Who is whose father? Who is the mother of whom, and from where? All beings come and go in the cycle of existence, each according to their own actions.
कर्मानुसाराज्जन्तुश्च जायते स्थानभेदतः । कर्मणा कोऽपि जन्तुश्च योगीन्द्राणां नृपस्त्रियाम्
According to their actions, a being is born in different places; by karma, one may be born as a great yogi, a king, or a woman.
द्विजापत्न्यां क्षत्रियाणां वैश्यायां शूद्रयोनिषु । तिर्यग्योनिषु कश्चिच्च कश्चित्पश्वादियोनिषु
Some are born from the wives of Brahmins, some among Kshatriyas, some from Vaishyas, some in Shudra wombs, some in animal births, and some among beasts and others.
ममैव मायया सर्वे सानन्दा विषयेषु च । देहत्यामे विषण्णाश्च विच्छेदे बान्धवस्य च
By my own maya, all are joyful in sense pleasures; but at the time of death, and at the separation from relatives, they become distressed.
प्रजाभूमिधनादीनां विच्छेदो मरणाधिकः । नित्यं भवति मूढश्च न च विद्वाञ्छुचा युतः
Separation from offspring, land, wealth, and so on is greater than death; the ignorant always grieve, but the wise are not afflicted by sorrow.
मद्भक्तो भक्तियुक्तश्च मद्याजी विजितेन्द्रियः । मन्मन्त्रोपासकश्चैव मत्सेवानिरतः शुचिः
My devotee, endowed with devotion, who worships me, has conquered the senses, recites my mantra, is devoted to my service, and is pure—
मद्भयाद्वाति वातोऽयं रविर्भाति च नित्यशः । भाति चन्द्रो महेन्द्रश्च कालभेदे च वर्षति
Out of fear of me, the wind blows, the sun shines continually, the moon and Indra shine, and rain falls at the proper time.
वह्निर्वहति मृत्युश्च चरत्येव हि जन्तुषु । बिभर्ति वृक्षः कालेन पुष्पापि च फलानि च
Fire burns, death moves among beings, the tree bears flowers and fruits in due season.
निराधारश्च वायुश्च वाय्वाधारश्च कच्चिपः । शेषश्च कच्छपाधारः शेषाधारश्च पर्वतः
The wind is without support, the tortoise supports the wind, Shesha supports the tortoise, and the mountain is supported by Shesha.
तदाधाराश्च पातालाः सप्त एव हि पङ्क्तितः । निश्चलं च जलं तस्माज्जलस्था च वसुंधरा
The seven netherworlds are supported in succession; the water is unmoving, and upon that water rests the earth.
