गलत्कुष्ठं च वृषलं नग्नं च सुक्तसूर्धचम् । अतीव रूपटं विप्रं च शपन्तं गुरुमीदृशाम्
He saw a leper, a low-caste man, naked with matted hair, an extremely ugly Brahmin, and a guru being cursed.
अतीवरुष्टं भिक्षुं च योगिनं वैष्णवं नरम् । एवं दृष्ट्वा समुत्थाय कथयामास मातरम्
He saw a very angry beggar, a yogi, a Vaishnava, and a man; having seen all this, he arose and spoke to his mother.
पितरं भ्रातरं पत्नीं रुदतीं प्रेमविह्वलम्
He saw his father, brother, and wife, all weeping and overwhelmed by affection.
मल्लसैन्यं च योद्धारं कारयामास मङ्गलम् । सभां च कारयामास पुण्यं स्वस्त्ययनं शिवम्
He assembled wrestlers and warriors, performed auspicious rites, and arranged a virtuous, blessed assembly.
यत्नेन योजयामास योगे युक्तं पुरोहितम् । उवास मञ्चके रम्ये धृत्वा खड्गं विलक्षणम्
With effort, he seated the priest, who was absorbed in yoga, and had him sit upon a beautiful couch, holding a remarkable sword.
रणे नियोजयामास योद्धारं युद्धकोविदम् । वासयामास राजेन्द्रान्ब्राह्मणांश्च मुनीश्वरान्
He appointed a skilled warrior, expert in battle, for the fight, and accommodated the kings, the foremost of Brahmins, and the great sages.
ब्राह्मणाश्च सुहृद्वर्गान्धर्मिष्ठान्रणकोविदान् । अथाऽऽजगम गोविन्दो रामेण सह नारद
He also honored Brahmins, groups of friends, the most righteous and battle-wise; then Govinda arrived together with Rama and Narada.
महेशस्य धनुर्मध्यं बभञ्ज तत्र लीलया । शब्देन तस्य मथुरा बधिरा च बभूव ह
There, with playful ease, he broke the bow of Mahesha in the middle; by its sound, Mathura itself became deafened.
विषादं प्राप कंसश्च मुदं च देवकीसुतः । उपस्थितः सभामद्धे गजं मल्लं निहत्य च
Kamsa was seized by despair, while the son of Devaki rejoiced; having entered the assembly, he slew the elephant and the wrestler.
यथा हृत्पद्ममध्यस्थं तादृशं बहिरेव च । राजेन्द्ररूपं राजानः शास्तारं दण्डधारिणा म्
Just as he is situated within the heart's lotus, so too did he appear outwardly; the kings saw him as the ruler, the wielder of the rod of punishment.
पिता माता दुग्धमुखं स्तनान्धं बालकं यथा । कामिन्यः कोटिकन्दर्पलीलालावप्यधारिणम्
Like a father and mother to a milk-drinking, blind infant, and as a beloved to women, bearing the playfulness of countless Cupids.
कंसश्च कालपुरुषं वैरिणं तस्य बान्धवाः । मल्ला मृत्युप्रदं चैव प्राणतुल्यं च यादवाः
Kamsa saw him as Time personified, his enemy; his relatives as well; the wrestlers saw him as the giver of death, and the Yadavas as dear as life itself.
नमस्कृत्य मुनीन्विप्रान्पितरं मातरं गुरुम् । जगाम मञ्चकाम्याशं हस्ते कृत्वा सुदर्शनम्
Having bowed to the sages, Brahmins, his father, mother, and teacher, he went towards the couch, holding the Sudarshana in his hand.
दृष्टावा भक्तं भक्तबन्धुः कृपया च कृपानिधिः । आकृष्य मञ्चकात्कंकं जघान लीलया मुने
Seeing his devotee, the friend of devotees, the ocean of compassion, out of mercy, drew Kamsa from the couch and slew him playfully, O sage.
राजा ददर्श विश्वं च सर्वं कृष्णमयं परम् । पुरतो रत्नयानं च हीरकाहारभूषितम्
The king beheld the entire universe, all pervaded by Krishna, and before him a chariot adorned with jewels and a necklace of diamonds.
ययौ विष्णुपदं स्फीतो दिब्यरूपं विधाय च । तेजो विवेश परमं कृष्णपादाम्बुजे मुने
He went to the abode of Vishnu, assuming a splendid divine form; his radiance entered the supreme lotus feet of Krishna, O sage.
निवृत्य तस्य सत्कारं ब्राह्मणेम्यो धरं ददौ । ददौ राज्यं राजछत्रमुग्रसेनाय धीमते
Having completed the proper honors for him, he gave the earth to the Brahmins, and bestowed the kingdom and royal umbrella upon the wise Ugrasena.
स बभूव नृपेन्द्रश्च चन्द्रवंशसमुद्भवः । विललाप कंसमाता पत्नीवर्गश्च तत्पिता
Thus, the king, born of the lunar dynasty, became established; Kamsa's mother lamented, as did his wives and father.
बान्धवा मातृवर्गश्च भगिनी भ्रातृकामिनी । दर्शनं देहि राजेन्द्र समुत्तिष्ठ नृपासने
His relatives, mothers, sisters, brothers, and beloveds cried out: 'O king, grant us your sight, rise up to your royal seat!'
राज्यं रक्ष धनं रक्ष बान्धवं बलमेव च । क्व यासि बान्धवान्हित्वा त्वमनाथान्महाबल
'Protect the kingdom, guard the wealth, the relatives, and the strength; where are you going, O mighty one, abandoning your kin who are now helpless?'
ब्रह्मादिस्तम्बपर्यन्तमसंख्यं विश्वमेव च । सर्वं चराचराधारं यः सृजत्येव लीलया
He who, by his play, creates the countless universe from Brahma down to the blade of grass, the support of all moving and unmoving beings—
ब्रह्मेशशेषधर्माश्च दिनेशश्च गणेश्वरः । मुनीन्द्रवर्गो देवेन्द्रो ध्यायते यमहर्निशम्
Brahma, Shiva, Shesha, Dharma, the Sun, Ganesha, the hosts of great sages, and Indra, all meditate upon him day and night.
वेदाः स्तुपन्ति यं कृष्णं स्तौति भीता सरस्वती । स्तौति यं प्रकृतिर्हृष्टा प्राकृतं प्रकृतेः परम्
The Vedas praise Krishna, Sarasvati praises him in fear, Prakriti joyfully extols him, who is beyond Prakriti and the primal cause.
स्वेच्छामयं निरीहं च निर्गुणं च निरञ्जनम् । परात्परतरं ब्रह्म परमात्मानमीश्वरम्
He is formed of his own will, without desire, without qualities, stainless, the Supreme beyond the supreme, the Absolute, the highest Self, the Lord.
नित्यं ज्योतिःस्वरूपं च भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहम् । नित्यानन्दं च नित्यं च नित्यमक्षरविग्रहम्
He is eternally of the nature of light, the embodiment of grace to his devotees, eternal bliss, eternal, and the imperishable form.
सोऽवतीर्णों हि भगवान्भारावतरणाय च । गोपालबालवेषश्च मायेशो मायया प्रभुः
That Lord has indeed descended to relieve the burden of the earth, taking the form of a cowherd boy, the master of Maya, wielding Maya as his power.
स यं हन्ति च सर्वेशो रक्षिता तस्य कः पुमान् । स यं रक्षति सर्वात्मा तस्य हन्ता न कोऽपि च
He whom the Lord of all destroys—who can protect him? He whom the Self of all protects—there is no one who can destroy him.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा सर्वश्च विरराम महामुने । ब्राह्मणान्भोजयामास तेभ्यः सर्वं धनं ददौ
Having spoken thus, O great sage, all became silent; he fed the Brahmins and gave them all his wealth.
भगवानपि सर्वात्मा जगाम पितुरन्तिकम् । छित्तवा च लोहनिगडं तयोर्मोक्षं चकार सः
The Lord, the Self of all, went to his father; he broke the iron shackles and released them both.
ननाम दण्डवद्भमौ मातरं पितरं तथा । तुष्टाव भक्त्तया देवेशो भक्तिनम्रात्मकंधरः
He bowed down on the ground before his mother and father, and the Lord of the gods praised them with devotion, his heart humbled by devotion.
