प्रणम्य सहसा मूधर्ना भक्तिनम्रा पुटाञ्जलिः । प्रददौ चन्दनं तस्य गात्रेश्यामलसुन्दरे
Bowing suddenly with devotion, her head low and hands joined in reverence, she offered sandalwood paste to his beautiful, dark limbs.
गात्रेषु तद्गणानां च स्वर्णपात्रकरा वरा । कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणं कृष्णं प्रणनाम पुनः पुनः
With golden vessels in hand, she applied it to the limbs of his companions as well, circumambulated Kṛṣṇa, and bowed again and again.
श्रीकृष्णदृष्टिमात्रेण श्रीयुक्ता सा बभूव ह । सहसा श्रीसमा रम्या रूपेण यौवनेन च
By the mere glance of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, she became endowed with beauty, suddenly as radiant and lovely as the goddess of fortune, in form and youth.
वहिशुद्धांशुवसना रत्नभूषणभूषिता । यथा द्वादशवर्षोया कन्या धन्या मनोहरा
Clad in pure, shining garments, adorned with jeweled ornaments, she appeared as a blessed and charming maiden of twelve years.
बिम्बोष्ठी सस्मिता श्यामा तप्तकाञ्चनसंनिभा । सुश्रोणी सुदती बिल्वफलतुल्यपयोधरा
With lips like bimba fruit, smiling, dark-complexioned, resembling molten gold, with beautiful hips, lovely teeth, and breasts like ripe bilva fruit.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणहारसारविराजिता । गजेन्द्रराजगमना रत्नमञ्जीररञ्जिता
Adorned with necklaces made of priceless gems, walking with the gait of a royal elephant, her anklets made of jewels resounding.
बिभ्रती कबरीभारं मालतीमाल्यवेष्टितम् । रक्षितं वामभागेन रुचिरं वर्तुलाकृतिम्
Wearing a mass of hair entwined with garlands of jasmine, beautifully rounded and protected on her left side.
सिन्दूरबिन्दुं दधतों दाडिमीकुसुमाकृतिम् । कस्तूरी बिन्दुमुपरि सार्ध चन्दनबिन्दुभिः
Bearing a dot of vermilion shaped like a pomegranate flower, with a spot of musk above it, together with drops of sandalwood paste.
रन्नदर्पणाहस्ता च प्रशस्ता रतिकर्मसु । श्रीकृष्णं वरयामास लोललोचनकोणतः
Holding a mirror in her hand, skilled in the arts of love, she chose Śrī Kṛṣṇa with the corner of her playful, rolling eyes.
श्रीवासस्तां समाश्वस्य ययौ स्थानान्तरं परम् । कृतार्थरूपा सा प्रीत्या ययौ पद्मयथाऽऽलयम्
Śrīnivāsa comforted her and went to another place; fulfilled and joyful, she went to her home like Lakṣmī to her lotus abode.
स ददर्श स्वभवनं यया पद्यालयालयम् । रत्नशय्याविरचितं सद्रत्नसारनिर्मितम्
She saw her own palace, which was like a lotus abode, adorned with beds made of jewels and constructed from the finest gems.
रत्नप्रदीपराजीभी राजिताभिश्च राजितम् । रत्नदर्पणराजैश्च राजितं परितस्ततः
It was resplendent with rows of jeweled lamps, shining brilliantly, and surrounded on all sides by grand jeweled mirrors.
सिन्दूरवस्त्रताम्बूलं श्चेतचामरमाल्यकम् । बिभ्रतीभिश्च दासीभिर्वेष्टितं दाससंघकैः
There were maidservants adorned with vermilion garments, betel leaves, yak-tail fans, and garlands, encircled by groups of attendants.
तत्र गत्वा च भुक्त्वा च मिष्टान्नं परमं मुदा । सुष्वाप रत्नपर्यङ्के सा दासीभिश्च सेविता
There, having arrived and eaten delicious food with great joy, she slept upon a jeweled couch, attended by her maidservants.
सकर्पूरं च ताम्बूलं कस्तूरीकुङ्कुमान्वितम् । चन्दनं स्थापयामास स्वतल्पे हरये सती
The devoted lady placed on her own bed for Hari camphor and betel, mixed with musk and saffron, along with sandalwood.
मालतीमाल्ययुगलं कर्पूरादिसुवासितम् । शीतलं सलिलं स्वादु मिष्टान्नं स्वसमीपतः
By her side were a pair of jasmine garlands fragrant with camphor and other scents, cool and sweet water, and delicious food.
कर्मणा मनसा वाचा चिन्तयन्ती हरेः पदम् । हरेरागमनं चापि मुखचन्द्रं मनोहरम्
With her actions, mind, and speech, she contemplated the feet of Hari and also his coming, and his enchanting moon-like face.
जगत्कृष्णमयं शश्वत्पश्यन्ती कामुकी मुने । कोटिकन्दर्पलीलाभं कामसक्तं च कामुकम्
O sage, the passionate lady constantly saw the world as pervaded by Krishna, who is ever playful like millions of Cupids and absorbed in love.
ततो तदर्श श्रीकृष्णो मालाकारं मनोहरम् । मालासमूहं बिभ्रन्तं गच्छन्तं राजमन्दिरम्
Then Shri Krishna saw the charming garland-maker, carrying a collection of garlands, going toward the royal palace.
सोऽपि दृष्ट्वा च श्रीकान्तं प्रणम्य शिरशा भुवि । ददौ माल्यसमूहं च कृष्णाय परमात्मने
Seeing Shri Krishna, the garland-maker bowed with his head to the ground and offered the collection of garlands to Krishna, the Supreme Self.
कृष्णस्तस्मै वरं दत्तवा स्वदास्यमतिदुर्लभम् । माल्यं गृहीत्वा प्रययौ राजमार्गे वरं वरः
Krishna granted him a boon most difficult to obtain—his own service. Taking the garlands, the best of men proceeded along the royal road.
ततो ददर्श रजकं बिभ्रतं वस्त्रपुञ्जकम् । अहंकृतिबलिष्ठं च सततं योवनोद्वतम्
Then he saw a washerman carrying a bundle of clothes, proud and strong, always displaying youthful arrogance.
वस्त्रं ययाचे तं कृष्णो विनयेन महामुने । स तस्मै न ददौ वस्त्रं तमुवाच च निष्ठुरम्
Krishna humbly asked him for some cloth, O great sage, but he did not give it and spoke harshly to him.
गोरक्षकाणां त्वद्योग्यं वस्त्रमेतत्सुदुर्लभम् । राजयोग्यं च हे मूढ हे गोपजनवल्लभ
He said, 'This cloth is most rare and fit for cowherds to wear, and also fit for kings, O fool, O beloved of the cowherd people.'
गृहीत्वा गोपकन्याश्च कन्यालोलुप लम्पट । यद्विहारः कृतस्तत्र वृन्दारण्येऽप्यराजके
'Having taken the cowherd girls, you, greedy for maidens and wanton, engaged in sport with them even in the forest of Vrindavan, where there is no king.'
न चात्र तादृशं कर्म राज्ञः कंसस्य वर्त्मंनि । विद्यमानोऽत्र राजेन्द्रः शास्ता दुष्टस्य तत्क्षणम्
'But here, such conduct is not found on the path of King Kamsa; the king is present here, O lord of kings, and punishes the wicked instantly.'
रजकस्य वचः श्रुत्वा जहास मधुसूदनः । जहास बलदेवश्च साक्रूरो गोपवर्गकः
Hearing the words of the washerman, Madhusudana laughed; Baladeva and the group of cowherds laughed along with Akrura.
तं निहत्य चपेटेन जग्राह वस्त्रपुञ्जकम् । वस्त्रं संधारयामास श्रीकृष्णः सगणस्तथा
Striking him with a slap, he killed him and seized the bundle of clothes; then Shri Krishna, along with his companions, distributed the garments.
रत्नयानेन गोनोकं पार्षदेर्वेष्टितेन च । ययौ रजकराजश्च धृत्वा दिव्यकलेवरम्
With this jewel-encrusted cow-cart, surrounded by attendants, the king of the dyers departed, bearing a divine body.
शश्वद्यौवनयुक्तं च जरामृत्युहरं वरम् । पीतवस्त्रसमायुक्तं सस्मितं श्यामसुन्दरम्
He possessed perpetual youth, a boon removing old age and death, adorned in yellow garments, smiling, dark and beautiful.
