नन्देनाऽऽनन्दयुक्तेनाऽऽश्लिष्टो दक्षिणपार्श्वतः । संभाषितो बान्धवैश्च पित्रा मात्रा च चुम्बितः
Embraced on his right side by Nanda, filled with joy, addressed by his relatives, and kissed by both his father and mother.
इति शीब्रह्मo महाo श्रीकृष्णजन्मखo उत्तo नारदनाo यात्रामङ्गलं नामैकसप्ततितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the seventy-first chapter, called 'The Auspicious Journey of Narada,' in the great Brahmavaivarta Purana, in the section on the birth of Sri Krishna.
अथ द्विसप्ततितमोऽध्यायः नारायण उवाच अथ कृष्णो गुरुं नत्वा निर्गम्य शिबिरान्मुने । आरुह्य स्वर्गयानं च शुभां मधुपुरीं ययौ
Now, the seventy-second chapter. Narayana said: Then Krishna, having bowed to his teacher, departed from the camp, ascended the celestial chariot, and went to the auspicious city of Mathura.
विवेश मथुरां रम्यां सहाक्रूरगणैः समम् । निर्जित्य शक्रनगरी शोभायुक्तां मनोहराम्
He entered the beautiful Mathura together with Akrura and his companions, having conquered the splendid and enchanting city of Indra.
रत्नश्रेष्ठेन खचितां रचितां विश्वकर्मणा । अमूल्यरत्नकलशो राजितैश्च विराजनाम्
Adorned with the finest jewels, constructed by Viśvakarman, and resplendent with priceless jeweled vessels.
राजमर्गशतैरिष्टैर्वैष्टितां रुचिरैर्वरैः । चन्द्राकारैश्चन्द्रसारैर्मणिमिः परिसंस्कृतैः
Graced with hundreds of royal roads, beautiful and excellent, with moon-like, moon-essence, jewel-paved avenues.
विचित्रैर्मणिसारैश्च वीथीशतविनिर्मितैः । शोभितैर्वणिजैः श्रेष्ठैः पुण्यवस्तुसमन्वितैः
With varied jewel-lined streets, constructed in hundreds, adorned by the best merchants, filled with auspicious goods.
सरोवरसहस्रैश्च परितः परिशोभितम् । शुध्धस्फटिसंकाशैः पद्मरागविराजितैः
Surrounded on all sides by thousands of lakes, shining with the brilliance of pure crystal and adorned with rubies.
रत्नालंकारभूषाढ्यैः शोभितां पद्मिनीगणैः । स्यिरयौवनसंयुक्तैर्निमेषरहितैः परैः
Adorned with groups of lotuses, embellished with jeweled ornaments, endowed with perpetual youth, and free from even a moment's decline.
शाक्षरैरूर्ध्ववदनैः कृष्णदर्शनलालसैः । भ्रूभङ्गलीलालोलैश्च शश्वच्चञ्चललोचनैः
With upward-facing, letter-like forms, longing for the sight of Krishna, playful in the movement of their brows, and ever-restless in their glances.
शश्वत्कामसमायुक्तैः पीनश्रोणिपयोधरेः । कोमलाङ्गैर्मध्यकूपै रतिरासविशारदैः
Always filled with desire, with full hips and breasts, delicate limbs, slender waists, and skilled in the arts of love.
रत्ननिर्माणयानानां कोटिभिः परिशोभिताम् । भूषणैर्भूषिताभिश्च चित्रेताभिश्च चित्रकैः
Adorned with millions of chariots made of jewels, and with women decorated with ornaments and varied attire.
नानाप्रकारश्रीयुक्तां पुष्पोद्यानत्रिकोटिभिः । नानापुष्पैः पुष्पिताभिर्युक्ताभिर्मधुसूदनैः
Adorned with various kinds of splendor, with three crores of flower gardens, blooming with many different flowers, and filled with honey-seeking bees.
माधुर्यमधुसंयुक्तैर्मधुलुब्धैर्मुदाऽन्वितैः । माध्वीकमधुमत्तैश्च युक्तैर्मंधुकरीचयैः
With bees intoxicated by sweetness and honey, joyfully swarming, and with groups of honey-drunk bees and honey-loving bumblebees.
नानाप्रकारदुर्गेश्च दुर्गम्यां वैरिणां गणैः । रणितां रणकैः शाश्चद्रक्षाशास्त्रविशारदैः
With many kinds of fortresses, difficult to approach by hosts of enemies, resounding with warriors skilled in weapons and the science of arms.
त्रिकोट्ट्याट्टालिकाभिश्च संयुक्तां सुमनोहराम् । रचितां किल सद्रत्नैर्विचित्रैर्विश्वकर्मणा
Joined with three crores of splendid mansions, most enchanting, constructed indeed by Viśvakarman with wondrous and precious jewels.
एवंभूतां च मथुरां दृष्ट्वा कमललोचनः । ददर्श पथि कुब्जां तां वृद्धामतियरादुराम्
Seeing Mathurā in such a state, the lotus-eyed one beheld on the road that hunchbacked woman, aged and extremely unattractive.
यान्तों दण्डसहायेन चातिनम्रां नमद्वलीम् । रूक्षितां विकृताकारां बिभ्रतीं चन्दनद्रवम्
Proceeding with the aid of a staff, very bent over, with a bowed body, rough and deformed in appearance, carrying sandalwood paste.
कस्तूरीकुङ्कुमाक्तं च स्पर्शमात्रेण नारद । सुगन्धिमकरन्देन गन्धाढ्यं सुमनोहरम्
O Nārada, with musk and saffron mixed in, fragrant with the scent of pollen, rich in aroma and most delightful at the mere touch.
सादृष्ट्वा सस्मिता वृद्धा श्रीकान्तं शान्तमीश्वरम् । श्रीयुक्तं श्रीनिवासं तं श्रीबीजं श्रीनिकेतनम्
Seeing the blessed Lord, the abode of fortune, the tranquil Lord, the source and seat of prosperity, the aged woman smiled.
प्रणम्य सहसा मूधर्ना भक्तिनम्रा पुटाञ्जलिः । प्रददौ चन्दनं तस्य गात्रेश्यामलसुन्दरे
Bowing suddenly with devotion, her head low and hands joined in reverence, she offered sandalwood paste to his beautiful, dark limbs.
गात्रेषु तद्गणानां च स्वर्णपात्रकरा वरा । कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणं कृष्णं प्रणनाम पुनः पुनः
With golden vessels in hand, she applied it to the limbs of his companions as well, circumambulated Kṛṣṇa, and bowed again and again.
श्रीकृष्णदृष्टिमात्रेण श्रीयुक्ता सा बभूव ह । सहसा श्रीसमा रम्या रूपेण यौवनेन च
By the mere glance of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, she became endowed with beauty, suddenly as radiant and lovely as the goddess of fortune, in form and youth.
वहिशुद्धांशुवसना रत्नभूषणभूषिता । यथा द्वादशवर्षोया कन्या धन्या मनोहरा
Clad in pure, shining garments, adorned with jeweled ornaments, she appeared as a blessed and charming maiden of twelve years.
बिम्बोष्ठी सस्मिता श्यामा तप्तकाञ्चनसंनिभा । सुश्रोणी सुदती बिल्वफलतुल्यपयोधरा
With lips like bimba fruit, smiling, dark-complexioned, resembling molten gold, with beautiful hips, lovely teeth, and breasts like ripe bilva fruit.
अमूल्यरत्ननिर्माणहारसारविराजिता । गजेन्द्रराजगमना रत्नमञ्जीररञ्जिता
Adorned with necklaces made of priceless gems, walking with the gait of a royal elephant, her anklets made of jewels resounding.
बिभ्रती कबरीभारं मालतीमाल्यवेष्टितम् । रक्षितं वामभागेन रुचिरं वर्तुलाकृतिम्
Wearing a mass of hair entwined with garlands of jasmine, beautifully rounded and protected on her left side.
सिन्दूरबिन्दुं दधतों दाडिमीकुसुमाकृतिम् । कस्तूरी बिन्दुमुपरि सार्ध चन्दनबिन्दुभिः
Bearing a dot of vermilion shaped like a pomegranate flower, with a spot of musk above it, together with drops of sandalwood paste.
रन्नदर्पणाहस्ता च प्रशस्ता रतिकर्मसु । श्रीकृष्णं वरयामास लोललोचनकोणतः
Holding a mirror in her hand, skilled in the arts of love, she chose Śrī Kṛṣṇa with the corner of her playful, rolling eyes.
श्रीवासस्तां समाश्वस्य ययौ स्थानान्तरं परम् । कृतार्थरूपा सा प्रीत्या ययौ पद्मयथाऽऽलयम्
Śrīnivāsa comforted her and went to another place; fulfilled and joyful, she went to her home like Lakṣmī to her lotus abode.
