चतुःषष्टिकलाशक्त्या यथा कान्ता कलावती । कामशास्त्रेषु निपुणा विदग्धा रसिकेश्वरी
By the power of the sixty-four arts, as a beloved endowed with skill, she was expert in the arts of love, accomplished, and the queen of enjoyment.
शृङ्गारलीलानिपुणा शश्वत्कामा च कामुकी । सुन्दरी सुन्दरीष्वेव शश्वत्सुस्थिरयौवना
She was skilled in amorous play, ever passionate and desirous; beautiful among beauties, always steadfast in youthful vigor.
पितणां मानसी कन्या धन्या मान्या च मानिनी । शंभोः शिष्या ज्ञानयुता शतकल्पान्तजीविनी
The daughter of Pitana, born of the mind, fortunate, honored, and proud; disciple of Shambhu, endowed with knowledge, living through a hundred aeons.
वेदवेदाङ्गनिपुणा योगनीतिविशारदा । नानारूपधरा साध्वी प्रसिद्धा सिद्धयोगिनी
She was adept in the Vedas and their branches, expert in the discipline of yoga; assuming many forms, virtuous, renowned as a perfected yogini.
तत्कन्या राधिका देवी मातृतुल्या च कामुकी । चकार नानाभावं सा सुशीला स्वामिनं प्रति
That daughter, Radha Devi, equal to a mother and desirous, displayed various moods, virtuous, toward her master.
चतुःषष्टिकलामानं श्रृङ्गारं च चकार सः । त्या विशिष्टया साकं रासे रामरसोत्सुकः
He performed the sixty-four arts of love, together with her, distinguished, eager for the delight of the rasa dance.
तां नखाग्रक्षतश्रोणीं नखक्षतपयोधराम् । लुप्तचन्दनसिंदूरां कबरीशिथिलां सतीम्
Her hips were scratched by fingernails, her breasts marked by nails; her sandalwood and vermilion were rubbed away, her hair loosened, chaste.
सुखसंभोगमग्नां च नग्नां च शोकमूर्च्छिताम् । पुलकाञ्चितसर्पाङ्गीं निद्रादेवी समाययौ
Absorbed in the bliss of union, naked and fainted from sorrow, her body adorned with goosebumps like serpents; the goddess of sleep approached.
दृष्ट्वा तां निद्रितां कृष्णःकृपया च कृपानिधिः । रुरोद मायया मायी मयेशो लोकशिक्षया
Seeing her asleep, Krishna, the ocean of compassion, wept out of mercy, the master of illusion, for the instruction of the world.
कृत्वा वक्षसि राधां च चुचुम्ब च पुनः पुनः । स्नातां च नेत्रसलिलैः प्राणाधिष्ठातृदेवताम्
Placing Radha on his chest, he kissed her again and again; he bathed her, the goddess presiding over life, with the water of his eyes.
प्राणाधिकां प्रियतमां धारयामास वाससी । वह्निशुद्धेऽतिसूक्ष्मे चामूल्ये विश्वमुदुर्लभे
He clothed his most beloved, dearer than life, in garments purified by fire, exceedingly fine, priceless, and rare in the world.
कबरीं च ददौ कुङ्कुमचन्दनम् । तद्गात्रे च गले हारममूल्यं रत्ननिर्मितम्
He adorned her hair with saffron and sandalwood; on her body and neck, he placed a priceless necklace made of jewels.
सिन्दूरं च ददौ तस्याः सीमन्ताधःस्थलेऽमले । दाडिमीकुसुमाकारं युक्तं चन्दनबिन्दुभि
He applied vermilion to her pure parting, shaped like a pomegranate flower, adorned with drops of sandalwood.
चकार पद्मकं गण्डे नानाचित्रविचित्रकम् । ददौ तत्पादपद्मे च रत्नमञ्जीररञ्जितम्
He made a lotus mark on her cheek, decorated with various intricate designs; and placed on her feet anklets adorned with jewels.
पादाङ्गुलिनखागे च सुन्दरालक्तकं ददौ । नानासुवेषोज्ज्वलितां तां निद्राकुलितां विभुः
He adorned her beautiful toes and fingernails with red dye, and dressed her in splendid garments; she, radiant in many ornaments, lay overcome by sleep.
पुनश्चकार मोहेन गाढालिङ्गनमीप्सितम् । पुनश्च चुम्बनं कृत्वा निवेश्य च स्ववक्षसि
Again, out of infatuation, he desired a tight embrace; once more he kissed her, placing her upon his own chest.
सुष्वाप जगतां स्वामी कान्ताविरहकातरः । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे काने ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः
The Lord of the worlds slept deeply, distressed by separation from his beloved. Meanwhile, in the forest, Brahma, the grandsire of the worlds,
शिवशेषादिभिर्देवैर्मुनीन्द्रैः सार्धमाययौ । आगत्य नत्वा सिरसा तुष्टाव संपुटाञ्जलिः
arrived together with Shiva, Shesha, and other gods, as well as great sages. Having come, he bowed his head and praised the Lord, hands joined in reverence.
सामवेदोक्तस्तोत्रेण परिपूर्णतमं विभुम्
He extolled the Lord with a hymn from the Sama Veda, offering complete praise.
ब्रह्मोवाच जय जय जगदीश वन्दितचरण निर्गुण निराकार स्वेच्छामय भक्तानुग्रह नित्यविग्रह
Brahma said: Victory, victory to you, Lord of the universe, whose feet are worshipped; attributeless, formless, self-willed, ever gracious to devotees, eternal embodiment.
गोपवेष मायया मायेश सुवेष सुशील शान्त सर्वकान्त दान्त नितान्तज्ञानानन्द परात्परतर प्रकृतेः पर सर्वान्तरात्मरूप निर्लिप्त साक्षिस्वरूप व्यक्ताव्यक्त निरञ्जन भारावतारण करुणार्णव शोकसेतापग्रसन जरामृत्युभयादिहरण शरणपञ्जर भक्तानुग्रहकारक भक्तवत्सल भक्तसंचितधन ओं नमोऽस्तु ते
O Lord, who wears the guise of a cowherd by your own maya, master of maya, splendidly adorned, virtuous, peaceful, beloved of all, restrained, supremely wise and blissful, higher than the highest, beyond nature, the inner self of all, untouched, witness, manifest and unmanifest, pure, remover of burdens, ocean of compassion, destroyer of sorrow, devourer of obstacles, remover of fear of old age and death, shelter for those who seek refuge, bestower of grace upon devotees, lover of devotees, treasurer of their merits—Om, salutations to you.
सर्पाधिष्ठातृदेवायेत्युक्त्वा वै प्रीणनाय च । पुनःपुनःरुवाचेदं मूर्च्छितश्च बभूव ह
Having spoken thus to the deity presiding over serpents, and to please him, he repeated these words again and again, and became faint.
इति ब्रह्मकृतं स्तोत्रं यः शृणोति समाहितः । तत्सर्पाभीष्टसिद्धिश्च भवत्येव न संशयः
Whoever listens with concentration to this hymn composed by Brahma will surely attain the desired fulfillment regarding serpents; there is no doubt.
अपुत्रो लभते पुत्रं प्रियाहीनो लभेत्प्रियाम् । निर्धनो लभते सत्यं परिपूर्णतमं धनम्
A childless person obtains a child, one deprived of a beloved regains their beloved, a poor person attains true and complete wealth.
इह लोके सुखं भुक्त्वा चान्ते दास्यं लभेद्धरेः । अचलां भक्तिमाप्नोति मुक्तेरपि सुदुर्लभाम्
Enjoying happiness in this world, at the end one attains servitude to Hari, and gains unwavering devotion, which is exceedingly rare even among those liberated.
स्तुत्वा च जगतां धाता प्रणम्य च पुनः पुनः । शनैः शनैः समुत्थाय भक्त्या पुनरुवाच ह
Having praised the Lord of the worlds and bowing again and again, he slowly rose and, with devotion, spoke once more.
ब्रह्मोवाच उत्तिष्ठ देवदेवेश परमानन्दकारण । नन्दनन्दन सानन्द नित्यानन्द नमोऽस्तु ते
Brahma said: Arise, Lord of gods, cause of supreme bliss; O son of Nanda, full of joy, eternal joy—salutations to you.
व्रज नन्दालयं नाथ त्यज वृन्दावनं वनम् । स्मर सृदामशापं च शतवर्षनिबन्धनम्
Go, O master, to Nanda's abode; leave the forest of Vrindavan. Remember the curse of Sridama, the hundred-year bond.
भक्तशापानृरोधेन शतवर्ष प्रियां त्यज । पुनरेनां च संप्राप्य गोलोकं च गमिष्यसि
Due to the restraint of the devotee's curse, for a hundred years, forsake your beloved; then, regaining her, you will go to Goloka.
गत्वा पितृगृहं देव पश्याकूरं समागतम् । पितृव्यमतिथिं मान्यं धन्यं वैष्णवमीश्वर
Go to your father's house, O Lord, and see Akura who has arrived; your paternal uncle, a guest to be honored, blessed, and a Vaishnava lord.
