न यास्याम्यथवाऽरण्यं यास्यामि कामसागरे । तत्र त्वत्कामनां कृत्वा त्यक्ष्यामि च कलेवरम्
Or else, I will not go to the forest, but to the ocean of desire; there, cherishing longing for you, I will abandon this body.
यथाऽऽकाशो यथाऽऽत्मा च यथा चन्द्रो था रविः । तथा त्वं यासि मत्पार्श्वे निबद्धो वसनाञ्चले
Just as space, the self, the moon, and the sun are ever-present, so too you remain at my side, bound to the edge of my garment.
अधुना यासि नैराश्यं कृत्वा मे दीनवत्सल । न युक्तं हि परित्यक्तुं दीनां मां शरणागताम्
Now you are turning to despair, O compassionate one to the afflicted; it is not right to abandon me, helpless and surrendered to you.
यत्पादपद्मं धयायन्ते ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवादयः । त्वां मायया गोपवेषं कथं जानामि मत्सरी
The lotus feet upon which Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and others meditate—how could I, deluded by your maya and seeing you in a cowherd's form, recognize you, O envious one?
कृतं यद्देव दुर्नीतमपराधसहस्रकम् । यदुक्तं पतिभावेन चाभिमानेन तत्क्षम
Whatever wrongs have been done, O Lord—thousands of offenses—whatever was spoken with the pride of being your wife, forgive all that.
चूर्णोभूतश्च मद्गर्वो दूरीभूतो मनोरथः । विज्ञातुमात्मसौभाग्यं किमन्यत्कथयामि ते
My pride has been reduced to dust, my desires cast far away; now that I know my own good fortune, what more can I say to you?
ज्ञात्वा गर्गमुखच्छ्रुत्वा मोहिता तव मायया । त्वां च वक्तुं न शक्नोमि प्रेम्णा वा भक्तिपाशतः
Having learned and heard from Garga's mouth, I am bewildered by your maya; I am unable to speak to you, bound by the ties of love and devotion.
यासि चेन्मां परित्यज्य सकलङ्को भविष्यसि । त्वत्पुत्रपौत्रा नश्यन्ति ब्रह्ममोपानलेन च
If you go, abandoning me, you will be stained with blame; your sons and grandsons will perish, even by the fire of Brahman.
क्षणं युगशतं मन्ये त्वां विना प्राणवल्लभम् । कथं शताब्दं त्वां त्यक्त्वा बिभर्मि जीवनं प्रभी
A moment without you, my beloved, feels like a hundred ages; how can I, having lost you, live for a hundred years, O Lord?
इत्युक्त्वा राधिका मोपात्पपात धरणीतले । मूर्च्छं संप्राप सहसा जहार चेतनां मुने
Having spoken thus, Radhika suddenly fell to the ground; she lost consciousness at once, O sage.
कुष्णस्तां मूर्च्छितां दृष्ट्वा कृपया च कृपानिधिः । चेतनां कारयित्वा च वासयामास वक्षसि
Seeing her unconscious, Krishna, the ocean of mercy, revived her and placed her upon his chest.
बोधयामास विविधं योगैःशोकविखण्डनैः । तथाऽपि शोकं त्यक्तुं च न शशाक शुचिस्मिता
He awakened her by various yogic means that dispel grief; yet even so, the fair-smiling one could not cast off her sorrow.
सामान्यवस्तुविश्लेषीनृणां शोकाय केवलम्। देहात्मनोश्च विच्छेदः क्व सुखाय प्रकल्पते
Separation from ordinary things brings only sorrow to people; how could the severing of body and soul ever bring happiness?
न ययौ तत्र दिवसे व्रजराजो व्रजं पति । क्रीडासरोवराभ्याशं प्रययौ राधाया सह
That day, the king of Vraja did not go there, nor did the lord of Vraja; he went with Radha to the banks of the play-lake.
तत्र गत्वा पुनः क्रीडां चकार च तया सह । विजहौ क्रिहज्वालां रासे रासेश्वरी मुदा
There, having arrived, he played again with her; in the rasa dance, the queen of the rasa cast off her burning pain in joy.
राधा सा स्वामिना सार्धं पुष्पचन्दनचर्चिता । पुष्पचन्दनतल्पे च तस्थौ रहसि नारद
Radha, together with her Lord, adorned with flowers and sandal paste, remained in seclusion upon a flower-and-sandalwood couch, O Narada.
इति श्रीब्रह्मo महाo श्रीकृष्णजन्माखo उत्तo नारदनाo राधाशोक- विमोचनं नामाष्टषष्टितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the sixty-eighth chapter of the glorious Brahma Purana, called 'The Liberation of Radha from Sorrow,' in the section of the birth of Shri Krishna, narrated by Narada.
अथैकोनसप्ततितमोऽध्यायः नारद उवाच अतः परं किं रहस्यं राधाकेशवयोर्वद । निगूढतत्वामस्पष्टं तन्मे व्याख्यातुमर्हसि
Now begins the sixty-ninth chapter. Narada said: Tell me, what further secret exists between Radha and Keshava? Its subtle essence is unclear; you should explain it to me.
नारायण उवाच शृणु नारद वक्ष्यामि रहस्यं परमाद्भुतम् । गोपनीयं च वेदेषु पुराणेषु पुराविदाम्
Narayana said: Listen, Narada, I will speak a most wondrous secret, concealed in the Vedas, the Puranas, and among the ancient sages.
पुनः सकामो भगवान्कृष्णः स्वेच्छामयो विभुः । रेमे स रमया सार्धं विदग्धश्च विदग्धया
Again, the Lord Krishna, full of desire and sovereign in his own will, enjoyed with Rama, the clever one, together with the clever woman.
चतुःषष्टिकलाशक्त्या यथा कान्ता कलावती । कामशास्त्रेषु निपुणा विदग्धा रसिकेश्वरी
By the power of the sixty-four arts, as a beloved endowed with skill, she was expert in the arts of love, accomplished, and the queen of enjoyment.
शृङ्गारलीलानिपुणा शश्वत्कामा च कामुकी । सुन्दरी सुन्दरीष्वेव शश्वत्सुस्थिरयौवना
She was skilled in amorous play, ever passionate and desirous; beautiful among beauties, always steadfast in youthful vigor.
पितणां मानसी कन्या धन्या मान्या च मानिनी । शंभोः शिष्या ज्ञानयुता शतकल्पान्तजीविनी
The daughter of Pitana, born of the mind, fortunate, honored, and proud; disciple of Shambhu, endowed with knowledge, living through a hundred aeons.
वेदवेदाङ्गनिपुणा योगनीतिविशारदा । नानारूपधरा साध्वी प्रसिद्धा सिद्धयोगिनी
She was adept in the Vedas and their branches, expert in the discipline of yoga; assuming many forms, virtuous, renowned as a perfected yogini.
तत्कन्या राधिका देवी मातृतुल्या च कामुकी । चकार नानाभावं सा सुशीला स्वामिनं प्रति
That daughter, Radha Devi, equal to a mother and desirous, displayed various moods, virtuous, toward her master.
चतुःषष्टिकलामानं श्रृङ्गारं च चकार सः । त्या विशिष्टया साकं रासे रामरसोत्सुकः
He performed the sixty-four arts of love, together with her, distinguished, eager for the delight of the rasa dance.
तां नखाग्रक्षतश्रोणीं नखक्षतपयोधराम् । लुप्तचन्दनसिंदूरां कबरीशिथिलां सतीम्
Her hips were scratched by fingernails, her breasts marked by nails; her sandalwood and vermilion were rubbed away, her hair loosened, chaste.
सुखसंभोगमग्नां च नग्नां च शोकमूर्च्छिताम् । पुलकाञ्चितसर्पाङ्गीं निद्रादेवी समाययौ
Absorbed in the bliss of union, naked and fainted from sorrow, her body adorned with goosebumps like serpents; the goddess of sleep approached.
दृष्ट्वा तां निद्रितां कृष्णःकृपया च कृपानिधिः । रुरोद मायया मायी मयेशो लोकशिक्षया
Seeing her asleep, Krishna, the ocean of compassion, wept out of mercy, the master of illusion, for the instruction of the world.
कृत्वा वक्षसि राधां च चुचुम्ब च पुनः पुनः । स्नातां च नेत्रसलिलैः प्राणाधिष्ठातृदेवताम्
Placing Radha on his chest, he kissed her again and again; he bathed her, the goddess presiding over life, with the water of his eyes.
