तावत्कालं पुनस्तप्त्वा वरं प्राप ददर्श तम् । ईदृशं परमेशं च द्रक्ष्याम्यद्य तमुद्धव
After performing austerity for such a time, he obtained the boon and saw him; today, O Uddhava, I will see that supreme Lord.
पुरा शंभुस्तपस्तेपे यावद्वै ब्रह्मणो वयः । ज्योतिर्मण्डलमध्ये च गोलोके तं ददर्श सः
Long ago, Shambhu performed austerity for as long as Brahma's lifespan; in the midst of the circle of light, in Goloka, he saw him.
सर्वतत्तवं सर्वसिद्धं ममतत्वं परं वरम् । संप्राप तत्पदाम्भोजे भक्तिं च निर्मलां पराम्
He attained all truths, all perfections, the highest essence of me; at the lotus feet, he obtained pure and supreme devotion.
चकाराऽत्मसमं तं च यो भक्तो(क्तं)भक्तवत्सलः । ईदृशं परमेशं च द्रक्ष्याम्यद्य तमुद्धव
He made him equal to himself, for he is the devotee-loving Lord; today, O Uddhava, I will see that supreme Lord.
सहस्रशक्रपातान्तं निराहारः कृशोदरः । यस्यानन्तस्तपस्तेपे भक्त्या च परमात्मनः
For a thousand Indra cycles, fasting and with a slender belly, Ananta performed austerity with devotion to the Supreme Self.
तदा चाऽऽत्मसमं ज्ञानंददौ तस्मै य ईश्वाः । ईदृशं परमेशं च द्रक्ष्याo
Then the Lord gave him knowledge equal to himself; today, I will see that supreme Lord.
सहस्रशक्रपातान्तं धर्मस्तेपे च यत्तपः । तदा बभूव साक्षी स धर्मिणां सर्वकर्मिणाम्
For a thousand Indra cycles, Dharma performed austerity; then he became the witness among the righteous and all doers of action.
शास्ता च फलदाता च यत्प्रसादान्नृणामिह । सर्वेशमीदृशमहो द्रक्ष्याo
He is the teacher and the giver of fruits, by whose grace people here attain; O, I will see that Lord of all.
अष्टाविंशतिरिन्द्राणां पतने यद्दिवानिशम् । एवं क्रमेण मासाब्दैः शताब्दं ब्रह्मणो वयः
During the fall of twenty-eight Indras, day and night, in this way, by months and years, a hundred years is the lifespan of Brahma.
अहो यस्य निमेषेण ब्रह्मणः पतनं भवेत् । ईदृशं परमात्मानं द्रक्ष्याo
O, by whose blink Brahma's fall occurs; I will see that Supreme Self.
नास्ति भूरजसा संख्या यथैव ब्रह्मणां तथा । तथैव बन्धो विश्वानां तदाधारो महाविराट्
There is no count of earth's dust, nor of Brahmas; likewise, O friend, of all worlds, whose support is the great Virat.
विशवे विश्वे च प्रत्येकं ब्रह्म विष्णुशिवादयः । मुनयो मनवः मिद्धा मानवाद्याश्चराचराः
In every world, in each, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and others; sages, Manus, the blessed, humans and all moving and unmoving beings.
यत्षोडशांशः स विराट् सृष्टो नष्टश्च लीलया । ईदृशं सर्वशास्तारं द्रक्ष्याo
That sixteenth portion, the Virāt, was created and destroyed in sport; such is the universal teacher whom you will see.
इत्योवमुक्त्वाऽक्रूरश्च पुलकाञ्चितविग्रहः । मूर्च्छां प्राप साश्रुनेत्रोदध्यो तच्चरणाम्बुजम्
Having spoken thus, Akrura, his body thrilled with joy, fell unconscious, tears streaming from his eyes onto those lotus feet.
बभूव भक्तिपूर्णश्च स्मारं स्मारं पदाम्बुजम् । कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणं वाऽपि कृष्णस्य परमात्मनः
He became filled with devotion, remembering again and again the lotus feet, and after circumambulating the Supreme Soul, Krishna, he departed.
उद्धवश्च तमाश्लिष्य प्रशशंक पुनः पुनः । स च शीघ्रं ययौ गेहमकूरोऽपि स्वमन्दिरम्
Uddhava embraced him and praised him repeatedly; then Akrura quickly went to his own house.
इति श्रीब्रह्मo महाo श्रीकृष्णजन्मखo उत्तo नारदनाo अक्रूरहर्षोत्कर्षकथनं नाम पञ्चषष्टि,मोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the sixty-fifth chapter of the glorious Brahma Purana, called 'The narration of Nārada and Akrura's supreme joy at Krishna's birth.'
अथ षटुषष्टितमोऽध्यायः नारायण उवाच अथ रासेश्वरीयुक्तो रासे रासेश्वरः स्वयम् । स च रेमे तया सार्धंमतीव रमणोत्सुकः
Now begins the sixty-sixth chapter. Narayana said: Then, united with the mistress of the Rasa, the Lord of the Rasa himself enjoyed with her, eager for delight.
सुखसंभोगमात्रेण ययौ निद्रां च राधिका । दृष्ट्वा स्वप्नं समुत्वाय दीनोवाच प्रियं दिने
Through the pleasure of union, Radhika fell asleep; seeing a dream, she awoke and, distressed, spoke to her beloved in the morning.
राधिकोवाच अहो स्वामिन्निहाऽऽगच्छ त्वां करोमि स्ववक्षसि । परिणामे विधाता मे न जाने किं करिष्यति
Radhika said: Ah, Lord, come here; I wish to hold you to my breast. In the end, the Creator may do as he wills—I do not know what he will do.
इत्युक्त्वा का महाभागा प्रियं कृत्वा स्ववक्षसि । दुःस्वप्नं कथायामास हृदयेन विदूयता
Having said this, the blessed one held her beloved to her breast and began to recount her bad dream, her heart troubled.
राधिकोवाच रत्नसिंहासनेऽहं च रत्नच्छत्रं च बिभ्रती । तदातपत्रं जग्राह रुषटो विप्रश्च मे प्रभो
Radhika said: I was seated on a jeweled throne, holding a jeweled umbrella; then a Brahmin, angry, seized that parasol from me, O Lord.
सागरे कज्जलाकारे महाघोरे च दुस्तरे । गभीरे प्रेरयामास मामेव दुर्बलां स च
He sent me, weak as I was, into a sea dark as ink, vast, dreadful, and hard to cross.
तत्र स्रोतसि शोकार्ता भ्रमामि च मुहुर्मुहुः । महोर्मीणां च वेगेन व्याकुला नक्रसंकुले
There, afflicted by sorrow, I wandered again and again in the current, distressed by the force of great waves, amidst a multitude of crocodiles.
त्राहि त्राहीति हे नाथ त्वां वदामि पुनः पुनः । त्वां न दृष्ट्वा महाभीता करोमि प्रार्थनां सुरम्
Save me, save me, O Lord! I call to you again and again. Not seeing you, greatly afraid, I pray to the gods.
कृष्ण तत्र निमज्जन्ती पश्यामि चन्द्रमण़्डलम् । निपतन्तं च गगनाच्छतखण्डं च भूतले
Krishna, there I saw myself sinking, and the moon's disk falling from the sky, shattered upon the earth.
क्षणान्तरे च पश्यामि गगनात्सूर्यंमण्डलम् । बभूव च चतुःखण्डं निपत्य धरणीतले
In another moment, I saw the sun's disk descend from the sky, breaking into four pieces upon the earth.
एककाले च गगने मण्डलं चन्द्रसूर्ययोः । अतीव कज्जलाकारं सर्वं ग्रस्तं च राहुणा
At one time in the sky, the disks of the moon and sun appeared, exceedingly dark, both swallowed by Rahu.
क्षणान्तरे च पश्यामि ब्रह्मणो दीप्तिमानिति । सत्क्रोडस्थं सुधाकुम्भं बभञ्ज च रुषेति च
In another moment, I saw the radiant Brahma, holding a nectar jar upon his lap, and in anger, he broke it.
क्षणान्तरे च पश्यामि महारुष्टं च ब्राह्मणम् । गृहीत्वा च व्रजन्तं च चक्षुषोः पुरुषं मम
In another moment, I saw a Brahmin, greatly enraged, taking away the person from my eyes.
