कोटिजन्मार्जितं पुण्यं मम स्वयमुपस्थितम् । बभूव मे समुत्पन्नं यद्यत्कर्म शुभाशुभम्
The merit I have accumulated over millions of births has come to fruition for me; whatever actions, good or bad, I have performed, have now borne fruit.
चिच्छेद बन्धनिगडं मम बद्धस्य कर्मणा । कारागाराश्च संसारान्मुक्तो यामि हरेःपदम्
The shackles of bondage, forged by my own deeds, have been cut; freed from the prison of worldly existence, I go to the feet of Hari.
सुहृदर्थो कृतोऽहं च कंसेन विदुषा रुषा । वरेण तुल्यो देवस्य क्रोधो मम बभूव ह
By the wise but angry Kaṃsa, I have been made an instrument for his own purpose; the wrath of the god has become equal to a boon for me.
व्रजराज समाहर्तुं व्रजं यास्यामि सांप्रतम् । द्रक्ष्यामि परमं पूज्यं भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनम्
Now I shall go to Vraja to bring the king of Vraja; I will see the Supreme, the most worshipful, the giver of enjoyment and liberation.
नवीनजलदश्यामं नीलेन्दीवरनोचनम् । पीतवस्त्रसमायुक्तकटिदेशविराजितम्
I will behold him, dark as a fresh raincloud, with eyes like blue lotuses, adorned with yellow garments, his waist splendidly decorated.
धूलिधूसरिताङ्गं च किंवा चन्दनचर्चितम् । अथाव नवनीताक्तमङ्गं द्रक्ष्यामि सस्मितम्
I may see his body dusted with earth, or perhaps anointed with sandal paste; or else, his limbs smeared with fresh butter, smiling gently.
किंवा विनोदमुरलीं वादयन्तं मनोहरम् । किंवा गवां समूहं च चारजन्तमितस्ततः
Or perhaps, charmingly playing his delightful flute, or tending the herds of cows as they wander here and there.
किंवा वसन्तं गच्छन्तं शयानं वा सुनिश्चितम् । निद्रेशं कीदृशं चाद्य सुदृष्ट्वा च शुभे क्षणो
Or perhaps I will see him walking, or certainly lying down in rest; what kind of sleep he enjoys today, in this auspicious moment, I shall see.
यत्पादपद्मं ध्यायन्ते ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवादयः । न हि जानाति यस्यान्तमनन्तोऽनन्तविग्रहः
The lotus feet upon which Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva, and others meditate—whose end is not known even by the infinite, whose forms are endless.
यत्प्रभावं न जानन्ति देवाः सन्तश्च संततम् । स्य स्तोत्रे जडीभूता भीता देवी सरस्वती
Whose power even the gods and the wise do not know; in whose praise the goddess Sarasvatī herself becomes mute and fearful.
दासीनियुक्ता यद्दास्यो महालक्षमीश्च लक्षीता । गङ्मा यस्य पदाम्भोजान्निःसृता सत्तव रूमिणी
Whose servants are attended by maidservants, and even Mahālakṣmī is marked as his; from whose lotus feet the Gaṅgā issued forth, and who is the source of all existence.
जन्ममृत्युजराव्याधिहरा त्रिभुवनात्परा । दर्शनस्पर्शनाभ्यां च नृणां पातकनाशिनी
Who removes birth, death, old age, and disease, and is beyond the three worlds; whose sight and touch destroy the sins of men.
ध्यायते यत्पदाम्भोजं दुर्गा दुर्गविनाशिनी । त्रेलोक्यजननी देवी मुलप्रकृतिरीश्वरी
Upon whose lotus feet Durgā, destroyer of difficulties, meditates; the goddess, mother of the three worlds, the primal nature, the sovereign.
लोम्नां कूपेषु विश्वानि महाविष्णोश्च यस्य च । असंख्यानि विचित्राणि स्थूलात्स्थूलतरस्य च
In the pores of whose skin exist countless and wondrous universes of the great Viṣṇu, from the grossest to the subtlest.
स च यत्षोडशांशश्च यस्य सर्वेश्वरस्य च । तं द्रष्टुं यामि हे बन्धो मायामानुषरूपिणम्
And he who is the sixteenfold portion, the Lord of all, O friend, I go to see him, who appears in a human form through his maya.
सर्व सर्वान्तरात्मानं सर्वज्ञं प्रकृतेः परम् । ब्रह्मज्योतिःस्वरूपं च भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहम्
He is the inner soul of all, the omniscient, beyond nature, the essence of the Brahman light, and the embodiment of compassion for devotees.
निर्गुणं च निरीहं च निरानन्दं निराश्रयम् । परमं परमानन्दं सानन्दं नन्दनन्दनम्
He is without qualities, without desire, without bliss, without dependence; yet he is supreme, the highest bliss, full of joy, the delight of Nanda.
स्वेच्छामयं सर्वपरं सर्वबीजं सनातनम् । वदन्ति योगिनः शश्वद्ध्यायन्तेऽहर्निशं शिशुम्
He is formed by his own will, supreme over all, the eternal seed of everything; yogis speak of him and meditate on the child day and night.
मन्वन्तरसहस्रं च निराहारः कृशोदरः । पद्मे पाद्मस्तपस्तेपे पुरा पाद्मं तु यत्कृते
For a thousand cycles of Manu, fasting and with a slender belly, Padma performed austerities in the lotus for the sake of the Padma.
पुनः कुरु तपस्यां च तदा द्रक्ष्यसि मामिति । सकृच्छब्दं च शुश्राव न ददर्श तथाऽपि तम्
Again, perform austerity and then you will see me—so he heard the word once, but did not see him even then.
तावत्कालं पुनस्तप्त्वा वरं प्राप ददर्श तम् । ईदृशं परमेशं च द्रक्ष्याम्यद्य तमुद्धव
After performing austerity for such a time, he obtained the boon and saw him; today, O Uddhava, I will see that supreme Lord.
पुरा शंभुस्तपस्तेपे यावद्वै ब्रह्मणो वयः । ज्योतिर्मण्डलमध्ये च गोलोके तं ददर्श सः
Long ago, Shambhu performed austerity for as long as Brahma's lifespan; in the midst of the circle of light, in Goloka, he saw him.
सर्वतत्तवं सर्वसिद्धं ममतत्वं परं वरम् । संप्राप तत्पदाम्भोजे भक्तिं च निर्मलां पराम्
He attained all truths, all perfections, the highest essence of me; at the lotus feet, he obtained pure and supreme devotion.
चकाराऽत्मसमं तं च यो भक्तो(क्तं)भक्तवत्सलः । ईदृशं परमेशं च द्रक्ष्याम्यद्य तमुद्धव
He made him equal to himself, for he is the devotee-loving Lord; today, O Uddhava, I will see that supreme Lord.
सहस्रशक्रपातान्तं निराहारः कृशोदरः । यस्यानन्तस्तपस्तेपे भक्त्या च परमात्मनः
For a thousand Indra cycles, fasting and with a slender belly, Ananta performed austerity with devotion to the Supreme Self.
तदा चाऽऽत्मसमं ज्ञानंददौ तस्मै य ईश्वाः । ईदृशं परमेशं च द्रक्ष्याo
Then the Lord gave him knowledge equal to himself; today, I will see that supreme Lord.
सहस्रशक्रपातान्तं धर्मस्तेपे च यत्तपः । तदा बभूव साक्षी स धर्मिणां सर्वकर्मिणाम्
For a thousand Indra cycles, Dharma performed austerity; then he became the witness among the righteous and all doers of action.
शास्ता च फलदाता च यत्प्रसादान्नृणामिह । सर्वेशमीदृशमहो द्रक्ष्याo
He is the teacher and the giver of fruits, by whose grace people here attain; O, I will see that Lord of all.
अष्टाविंशतिरिन्द्राणां पतने यद्दिवानिशम् । एवं क्रमेण मासाब्दैः शताब्दं ब्रह्मणो वयः
During the fall of twenty-eight Indras, day and night, in this way, by months and years, a hundred years is the lifespan of Brahma.
अहो यस्य निमेषेण ब्रह्मणः पतनं भवेत् । ईदृशं परमात्मानं द्रक्ष्याo
O, by whose blink Brahma's fall occurs; I will see that Supreme Self.
