रुतोदोच्चैर्लक्ष्मणश्च सुग्रीवश्चापि नारद । वानरा रुरुदुः सर्वे सहबलपराक्रमाः
Lakshmana, Sugriva, and Narada cried out loudly, and all the monkeys, strong and valiant, wept together.
निबध्य सेतुं लङ्कां च प्रययौ रघुनन्दनः । ससैन्यः सानुजः शीघ्रं संनद्धश्चापि नारद
Binding the bridge, Raghunandana quickly went to Lanka with his army and his younger brother, fully armed, O Narada.
निहत्य रावणं रामो रणं कृत्वा सबान्धवम् । चकार मोक्षणं ब्रह्मन् सितायश्च शुभेक्षणे
Having slain Ravana in battle along with his kin, Rama, O Brahman, freed Sita, she of auspicious gaze.
कृत्वा पुष्पकयानेन सीतां सत्यपरायणाम् । अयोध्यां प्रययौ शीघ्रं क्रीडाकौतुकमङ्गलैः
Then, placing the ever-truthful Sita in the Pushpaka chariot, he swiftly went to Ayodhya, amidst play, joy, and auspicious celebrations.
क्रीडां चकार भगवान् सीतां कृत्वा च वक्षसि । विजहौ विरहज्वालां सीता रामश्च तत्क्षणम्
The Lord played, holding Sita to his chest; in that very moment, Sita and Rama cast off the burning pain of separation.
सप्तद्वीपेश्वरो रामो बभूव पृथिवीतले । बभूव निखिला पृथ्वी आधिव्याधिविवर्जिता
Rama became lord of the seven islands upon the earth, and the whole world became free from affliction and disease.
बभूवतू रामपुत्रौ धार्मिकौ च कुशीलवौ । तयोश्च पुत्रैः पौत्रेश्च सूर्यवंशोद्भवा नृपाः
Thus were born the two righteous sons of Rāma, Kuśa and Lava; and from their sons and grandsons arose the kings of the Solar dynasty.
इति ते कथितं वत्स श्रीरामचरितं शुभम् । सुखदं मोक्षदं सारं पारपोतं भवार्णवे
Thus, dear one, I have told you the auspicious story of Śrī Rāma—bestowing happiness, granting liberation, the essence, and the boat to cross the ocean of worldly existence.
अथ त्रिषष्टितमोध्यायः नारायण उवाच अथ कंसो विचिन्त्यैवं दृष्ट्वा दुःस्वप्नमेव च । समुद्विग्नो महाभीतो निराहारो निरुत्सुकः
Nārāyaṇa said: Then Kaṃsa, having reflected thus and having seen an evil dream, became greatly disturbed, terrified, lost his appetite, and was devoid of enthusiasm.
पुत्रं मित्रं बन्धुगणं बान्धवं च पुरोहितम् । समानीय सभामध्ये तानुवाच सुदुःखितः
He summoned his son, friends, relatives, kinsmen, and priest, and, deeply troubled, addressed them in the midst of the assembly.
कंस उवाच मया दृष्टो निशीथे यो दुःस्वप्नो हि भयप्रदः । निबोधत बुधाः सर्वे बान्धवाश्च पुरोहिताः
Kaṃsa said: I have seen, at midnight, an evil dream that brings fear; listen, all you wise ones, kinsmen, and priests.
बिभ्रती रक्तपुष्पाणां मालां सा रक्तचन्दनम् । रक्ताम्बनं खड्गतीक्ष्णं खर्परं च भयंकरम्
She wore a garland of red flowers, red sandal paste, red garments, held a sharp sword and a terrifying skull.
प्रकृत्याट्टाट्टहासं च लोलजिह्वा भयंकरी । अतीव वृद्धा कृष्णाङ्गी नगरे मम नृत्यति
By nature she laughed loudly, her tongue lolling, fearsome, extremely old, dark-bodied, dancing in my city.
मुक्तकेशी छिन्ननासा कृष्णा कृष्णाम्बारप्रिया । विधवा सा महाशूद्री मामालिङ्गितुमिच्छति
Her hair was loose, her nose cut, dark, fond of dark garments; that widowed, low-born woman wished to embrace me.
मलिनं चैलखण्डं च बिभ्रती रूक्षमूर्धजान् । दधती चूर्णतिलकं कपोलै मम वक्षसि
Wearing a dirty piece of cloth, with rough hair, she bore a powder mark on her cheeks and pressed them against my chest.
कृष्णवर्णानि पक्वानि च्छिन्नभिन्नानि सत्यक । पतन्ति कृत्वा शब्दांश्च शश्वत्तालफलानि च
O Satyaka, black, ripe, broken and split palm fruits fell, making sounds, again and again.
कुचैलो विकृताकारो म्लेच्छो हि रूक्षमूर्धजः । ददाति मह्यं भूषायां छिन्नभिन्नकपर्दकान्
A man in filthy clothes, deformed in appearance, a foreigner with rough hair, gave me broken and split cowries as ornaments.
महारुष्टा च दिव्या स्त्री पतिपुत्रवती सती । बभञ्ज पूर्णकुम्भं च साऽभिशप्य पुनः पुनः
A divinely furious woman, chaste, with husband and sons, repeatedly cursed me and broke a full water pot.
अम्लानामोंडूमालां च रक्तचन्दनचर्चिताम् । ददाति मङ्यं विप्रश्च महारुष्टोऽतिशप्य च
A furious Brahmin, having cursed me greatly, gave me a withered garland of Dūrvā grass, smeared with red sandal paste.
क्षणमङ्गारवृष्टिश्च भस्मवृष्टिः क्षणं क्षणम् । क्षणं क्षणं रक्तवृष्टिर्भवेच्च नगरे मम
For a moment there was a rain of coals, then a rain of ashes, and at times a rain of blood occurred in my city.
वानरं वायसं श्वानं भल्लूकं सूकरं खरम् । पश्यामि विकटाकारं शब्दं कुर्वन्तमुल्बणम्
I saw monkeys, crows, dogs, bears, boars, and donkeys—grotesque in form—making dreadful noises.
पश्यामि शुष्ककाष्ठानां राशिमम्लानकज्जलम् । अरुणोदयवेलायां कपींश्चिन्ननखानि च
I saw a heap of dry wood, blackened and withered, and at dawn, monkeys with broken nails.
पीतवस्त्रपरिधाना शुक्लचन्दनचर्चिता । बिभ्रती मालतीमालां रत्नभूषणभूषिता
A woman dressed in yellow garments, adorned with white sandal paste, wearing a garland of jasmine and jeweled ornaments,
क्रीडाकमलहस्ता सा सिन्दूरबिन्दुशोभिता । कृत्वाऽभिशापं मां रुषटा याति मन्मन्दिरात्सती
Holding a lotus for play, adorned with a dot of vermilion, after cursing me in anger, that chaste woman departed from my palace.
पाशहस्तांश्च पुरुषान्मुक्तकेशान्भयंकरान् । अतिरूक्षांश्च पश्यामि विशातो नगरं मम
I see men with nooses in their hands, with disheveled hair, terrifying and extremely harsh, entering my city.
नग्ननारी सुक्तकेशी नृत्यन्ती च गृहे गृहे । अतीव विकृताकारां पश्यामि सस्मितां सदा
I always see naked women with loose hair, dancing in every house, with extremely distorted forms, yet smiling.
छिन्ननासा च विधवा महाशूद्री दिगम्बरा । सा तैलाभ्यङ्गितं मां च करोत्यतिभयंकरी
I see a widow, a great Śūdra, naked and with her nose cut off, who frightfully anoints me with oil.
निर्वाणाङ्गारयुक्ताश्च भस्मबूर्णा दिगम्बरा । अतिप्रभातसमये चित्राः पश्यामि सस्मिताः
I see strange, smiling figures at the very break of dawn, covered with ashes, naked, and bearing the marks of extinguished embers.
पश्यामि च विवाहं च नृत्यगीतमनोहरम् । रक्तवस्त्रपरीधानान्पुरिषान्रक्तमीर्धजान्
I see a wedding, with enchanting dance and song, and men clothed in red garments, their hair stained red, throughout the city.
रक्तं वमन्तं पुरुषं नृत्यन्तं नग्नमुल्बणम् । धावन्तं च शयानं च पश्यामि सस्मितं सदा
I always see a naked, dreadful man vomiting blood, dancing, running, and lying down, all while smiling.
