ताम्रास्या पूर्णनयना भ्रमन्ती सर्वकाननम्
Her face flushed, her eyes full, she wandered through every forest.
ता दृष्ट्वा राधिका सा च प्रेमविच्छेदकातरा
Seeing them, that Radhika, distressed by the separation of love—
विनिन्द्य कृष्णं कोपेन तर्जयामास च क्षणम् ।। 4.52.
She reproached Krishna in anger and threatened him for a moment.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे कृष्णस्तत्र चन्दनकानने
Meanwhile, Krishna was there in the sandalwood grove.
राधा गोपाङ्गनाभिश्च दृष्ट्वा प्राणेश्वरं मुदा
Seeing the Lord of their lives with joy, Radha and the cowherd women approached.
तूर्णं कृष्णं समाश्लिष्य जहार मुरलीं रुषा
Quickly embracing Krishna, she snatched away his flute in anger.
पुनः संधारयामास वस्त्रं मालां मनोहराम्
Again, she arranged his garment and his charming garland.
चन्दनागुरुकस्तूरीकुङ्कुमाक्तं चकार तम् १
She anointed him with sandalwood, aguru, musk, and saffron.
क्षणं संतर्जयामास क्षणं स्तोत्रं चकार ह
For a moment she scolded him, and for a moment she offered praise.
अथ गोपाङ्गनाः सर्वा रुरुदुः प्रेमविह्वलाः
Then all the cowherd women, overwhelmed with love, began to weep.
देहत्यागं च स्नानं च स्वाहारस्य विसर्जनम्
They spoke of abandoning their bodies, of bathing, and of giving up their own food.
क्षणं तं भर्त्सयामासुः स्तोत्रं चक्रुः क्षणं मुदा
For a moment they rebuked him, and for a moment they joyfully sang his praises.
काश्चिदूचुः प्राणचोरं पश्य रक्षेति संततम् 4.52.
Some said, 'Look, protect us from this thief of our very life!'
काश्चिदूचुरिमं मध्ये यूयं कुरुत सत्वरम्
Some said, 'You all, quickly do something to him here in the midst!'
काश्चिदूचुरयं नास्ति प्रतीतिर्न कदाचन
Some said, 'There is never any trust in him at all.'
काश्चिदूचुर्निष्ठुरोऽयं नरघातीति कोपतः
Some said angrily, 'He is cruel, a slayer of men!'
निर्जनानि च रम्याणि यानि यानि वनानि च
And the secluded, beautiful forests, wherever they were—
एवं तं गोपिकाः सर्वा मध्ये कृत्वा सदीश्वरम्
In this way, all the gopis placed him in their midst, along with the Lord.
रासं गत्वा स्वर्णपीठे तस्थौ स रसिकेश्वरः
Having gone to the rasa, the Lord of delight stood upon a golden seat.
नानामूर्तीर्विधायात्र सह ताभिर्जनार्दनः
There, Janardana assumed various forms together with them.
स्वयं राधां करे धृत्वा पूर्वोक्तं रतिमन्दिरम्
He himself took Radha by the hand and entered the pleasure chamber previously described.
नानाप्रकारशृङ्गारं कामशास्त्रविशारदः 4.52.
Expert in the science of love, he engaged in various kinds of adornment and amorous play.
बभूव सुरतिस्तत्र सुचिरं च तयोर्मुने
There, their union endured for a long time, O sage.
एवं तौ तस्थतुस्तत्र राधाकृष्णौ रसोत्सुकौ
Thus, Radha and Krishna remained there, eager for delight.
नारद उवाच निमित्तमस्य मां भक्तं वद भक्तजनप्रिय
Narada said: Tell me the reason for this, O beloved of devotees, for I am your devotee.
श्रीनारायण उवाच जगन्माता च प्रकृतिः पुरुषश्च जगत्पिता
Sri Narayana said: The Mother of the universe is Prakriti, and Purusha is the Father of the world.
गरीयसी त्रिजगतां माता शतगुणैः पितुः
The Mother of the three worlds is greater than the Father by a hundredfold.
कृष्णराधेशगौरीति लोके न च कदा श्रुतः
The name 'Krishna-Radha-Isha-Gauri' has never been heard in the world.
गृहाणार्घ्यं मया दत्तं संज्ञया सह भास्कर
Receive the arghya I have given, along with the proper invocation, O Bhaskara.
इति दृष्टं सामवेदे कौथुमे मुनिसत्तम
Thus it is seen in the Sama Veda, in the Kauthuma recension, O best of sages.
