वासुकिस्तत्समाकर्ण्य प्रज्वलन्नतिकोपतः
Hearing this, Vāsuki blazed forth, overcome with intense anger.
सर्पसेनाग्रणीनां च मुख्यान्पञ्च विशारदान्
He summoned the five chief leaders of the serpent army, skilled in their arts.
सर्वे नागाः समाजग्मुर्यत्र धन्वन्तरिः स्वयम् 4.51.
All the nāgas gathered where Dhanvantari himself was present.
नागनिश्वासवातेन सर्वे शिष्या मृता इव
By the wind of the nāgas' breath, all the disciples appeared as if dead.
धन्वन्तरिश्च भगवान्पीयूषवर्षणेन च
And the blessed Dhanvantari, by showering nectar,
चेतनां कारयित्वा च शिष्याणां च जगद्गुरुः
restored consciousness to the disciples, being the teacher of the world.
सर्वे बभूवुर्निश्चेष्टा जृंभितास्ते मृता इव
Yet all became motionless, stiffened, as if dead.
वासुकिर्बुबुधे सर्वं सर्वज्ञः सर्वसंकटम्
Vāsuki, who knows all, understood the entire calamity.
वासुकिरुवाच जगत्त्रये महाभागे पूजा तव भविष्यति
Vāsuki said: 'In the three worlds, O greatly fortunate one, your worship will take place.'
वासुकेर्वचनं श्रुत्वा प्रहस्योवाच कन्यका
Hearing Vāsuki's words, the maiden smiled and spoke.
मनसोवाच भद्राभद्रं दैवसाध्यं करिष्यामि यथोचितम्
She spoke in her mind: 'I will accomplish what is auspicious or inauspicious, as is destined by fate.'
तं शत्रुं संहरिष्यामि लीलया समरस्थले
'I will destroy that enemy with ease on the battlefield.'
यदि ब्रह्मादयो देवाः समायान्ति रणस्थले 4.51.
'Even if Brahmā and the other gods come to the field of battle—'
गुरुर्मे भगवाञ्छेषः सिद्धमन्त्रं च दत्तवान्
'My revered teacher is the blessed Śeṣa, who has given me a perfected mantra.'
बिभर्मि कवचं कण्ठे परं त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलम्
'I wear at my neck a protective amulet, supremely auspicious for the three worlds.'
शिष्याऽहं मंत्रशास्त्रेषु शंभोर्भगवतः पुरा
'I am a disciple in the mantra scriptures of the blessed Śambhu from of old.'
शंभोश्च शिष्यो गरुडो गणयामि न तं ध्रुवम्
'And Garuḍa is a disciple of Śambhu as well, but I do not count him as such, certainly.'
इत्युक्त्वा सा जगामैका त्यक्त्वा नागगणान्रुषा
Having spoken thus, she departed alone, abandoning the hosts of nāgas in anger.
यत्र धन्वन्तरिर्देवः प्रसन्नवदनेक्षणः
Where Dhanvantari, the god, with a gracious and radiant face,
दृष्टिमात्रेण सर्वाश्च जीवयामास सुन्दरी
By merely his gaze, revived all the beautiful ones.
धन्वन्तरिस्तु भगवान्मन्त्रशास्त्रविशारदः
Dhanvantari, the blessed one, expert in the science of mantras,
दृष्ट्वा धन्वंतरिं देवी प्रहस्योवाच सत्वरम्
Seeing Dhanvantari, the goddess smiled and spoke swiftly,
मनसोवाच वद जानासि किं सिद्ध शिष्योऽसि गरुडस्य च ।। 4.51.
She spoke in her mind: Tell me, do you know, are you a siddha or a disciple of Garuda?
अहं च वैनतेयश्च शिष्यौ शंभोश्च विश्रुतौ
I and Vainateya are renowned as disciples of Shambhu.
इत्युक्त्वा सरसः पद्मं समानीय जगत्प्रसूः
Having spoken thus, the mother of the world brought a lotus from the lake.
दृष्ट्वाऽऽगतं पद्मपुष्पं ज्वलदग्निशिखोपमम्
Seeing the lotus flower brought, blazing like a flame of fire,
तच्च धन्वतरिर्दृष्ट्वा समंत्ररेणुमुष्टिना
Dhanvantari, seeing it, with a fist and mantra, took it.
देवी जग्राह शक्तिं च ग्रीष्मसूर्यसमप्रभाम्
The goddess took up a spear, shining like the summer sun.
दृष्ट्वा जाज्वल्यमानां तां शक्तिं धन्वतरिः स्वयम्
Seeing that spear blazing, Dhanvantari himself,
तां च शक्तिं वृथा दृष्ट्वा प्रजज्वालेश्वरी रुषा
Seeing that spear rendered ineffective, the goddess blazed with anger.
