स्त्रीपुंसो रतिविच्छेदमुपायेन करोति यः
Whoever, by some means, interrupts the union of woman and man,
यात्यन्ते कालसूत्रे च वर्षलक्षं स पातकी
When the thread of time ends, he who does so for a hundred thousand years is sinful.
रम्भायुक्तं शक्रमिमं चकार विरतं रतौ
He made Indra, who was united with Rambhā, abstain from intercourse.
पुनरन्यां स संप्राप्य निषेव्य शूलपाणिनम्
Then, having obtained another woman and having served the wielder of the trident,
रोहिणीसहितं चन्द्रं चकार विरतं रतौ
He caused the Moon, together with Rohiṇī, to refrain from intercourse.
पुनः शिवं समाराध्य प्राप्याहल्यां च पुष्करे
Again, having worshipped Śiva and obtained Ahalyā at Puṣkara,
मुनिः स्वभार्यासंसक्ते दिवसे निर्जने वने
The sage, attached to his own wife, in the forest on a solitary day,
बभूव पुत्रविच्छेदस्तस्य कल्पान्तरे पुनः 4.46.
Again, at the end of a kalpa, he suffered the loss of his son.
हरिश्चन्द्रो हालिकं च वृषल्या सह संयुतम्
Hariścandra, together with a woman of low caste, united with Hālika,
भ्रष्टः श्रीराज्यवित्तेभ्यस्तं चकारावलीलया
By the play of fate, he was deprived of his kingdom, wealth, and prosperity.
ततः शिवं समाराध्य दातारं सर्वसंपदाम्
Then, having worshipped Śiva, the giver of all wealth,
आजामिलं द्विजश्रेष्ठं वृषल्या सह संयुतम्
Ājāmila, the best of twice-born, united with a woman of low caste,
निष्पन्ने कर्मभोगे च स मद्भक्तो मुमोच ह
When the enjoyment of karma was completed, that devotee of mine was released.
सर्वं निषेकसाध्यं च निषेको बलवान्विधे
All is accomplished by the seed; indeed, the seed is powerful, O wise one.
दिव्यं वर्षसहस्रं च शंभोः संभोगकर्मकृत्
For a divine thousand years, he performed the acts of enjoyment with Śambhu.
पूर्णे वर्षसहस्रे च गत्वा तत्र महेश्वरः
When a thousand years were completed, Maheśvara went there.
तत्र वीर्ये च भविता स्कन्दको भक्ततारकः
There, from that seed, Skanda will be born, devoted to the destroyer of Tāraka.
अधुना त्वं गृहं गच्छ भगवान्स्वगणैः सह ।। 4.46.
Now you go home, the Lord with his attendants.
इत्युक्त्वा कमलाकान्तः शीघ्रं स्वान्तःपुरं ययौ
Having spoken thus, the beloved of Lakṣmī quickly went to his inner chambers.
नारायण उवाच जगाम चन्दनवनं निर्जने च तया सह
Nārāyaṇa said: He went to the sandalwood forest, in solitude, together with her.
अतीव निर्जनं रम्यं वायुना सुरभीकृतम्
It was exceedingly secluded and delightful, made fragrant by the wind.
पुष्पतल्पसमाकीर्णे परपुष्टरुतश्रुते
Covered with beds of flowers, where the sounds of other birds were heard.
कृष्णसंभोगमात्रेण सुखसंमूर्च्छिता च सा
By the mere enjoyment of Krishna, she was overwhelmed with happiness.
तस्थतुस्तत्र संयुक्तौ राधारासेश्वरौ मुने
There, O sage, the lords of the Rasa dance, Radha and Krishna, stood together.
इत्येवं मङ्गलं कर्म यः शृणोति समाहितः
Whoever listens with attention to this auspicious act—
महाशोकार्णवे मग्नो भेदे पुत्रकलत्रयोः
Even if immersed in the great ocean of sorrow, from separation from sons and wife—
सूत उवाच पुनः संप्रष्टुमारेभे देवर्षिः कौतुकान्वितः
Sūta said: Again, the divine sage, filled with curiosity, began to ask.
नारद उवाच कां कथां कथयामास कथ्यतां करुणानिधे
Nārada said: What story did he tell? Please relate it, O ocean of compassion.
उवास मलयद्रोणीं वटमूले मनोहरे
He stayed in the charming valley of Malaya, beneath a banyan tree.
राधा तं परिपप्रच्छ सस्मितं सुमनोहरम्
With a gentle smile, beautiful Rādhā questioned him.
