शैलेशैलेऽतिरम्ये च नद्यांनद्यां नदेनदे
On every delightful mountain and by every river, in every stream and watercourse,
काञ्चने भूमिनिकरे वटमृलेऽतिनिर्जने
On golden patches of earth, in banyan groves, and in the most secluded places,
भ्रमरध्वनिसंयुक्ते पुंस्कोकिलरुतश्रुते
Where the sound of bees was heard and the calls of male cuckoos resounded,
चित्तेषु चेतनानां च हरणं योषितामहो
He captivated the hearts of all conscious beings, especially the women.
पूर्णमब्दशतं दिव्यं स रेमे वामया सह
For a full hundred divine years, he enjoyed with his beloved.
तस्थतुस्तौ च तत्रैव संसक्तौ सततं मुदा
The two of them remained there, always united and joyful.
पतिविच्छेदसंतापं विजहौ सा रतिर्मुदा
She, Rati, joyfully abandoned the sorrow of separation from her husband.
इत्येवं कथितं सर्वं रतिसंतापकारणम्
Thus, everything has been told regarding the cause of Rati's suffering.
शृण्वतां कर्णपीयूषं परमाश्चर्यमीप्सितम् 4.46.
This is nectar to the ears of those who listen, most wonderful and desired.
वसञ्छ्वशुरगेहे स पार्वत्या सह शंकरः
Staying in his father-in-law's house, Śaṅkara remained there with Pārvatī.
रत्नस्यन्दनमारुह्य रत्नसारपरिच्छदम्
Mounting a chariot of jewels, adorned with the essence of precious stones,
शतशृङ्गे सुवसने मलये गन्धमादने
On the mountain with a hundred peaks, beautifully dressed, in Malaya and Gandhamādana,
पुलिन्दे च कलिन्दे च पुंड्रे पिंडारकेंऽधके
In Pulinda, Kalinda, Puṇḍra, Piṇḍāraka, and Andhaka,
निकटेऽस्तगिरेः पार्श्ववटमूले मनोहरे
Near the western mountain, at the charming root of a banyan tree.
नानास्थानेषु रहसि पशुपक्षिविवर्जिते
In various secluded places, where neither animals nor birds are found,
यत्रयत्र शिवं नीत्वा बभ्राम धरणीतलम्
Wherever Shiva led her, they wandered across the surface of the earth.
कृत्वा विहारं सुचिरं न पूर्णं मानसं तयोः
Though they enjoyed themselves for a long time, their minds were not satisfied.
मायातीतोऽतिमायेशो मायासक्तः स्वमायया
He, transcending illusion and lord of supreme illusion, she, attached through her own illusion,
शक्तिशक्तिमतोस्तत्र न बभूव परिश्रमः 4.46.
Between the power and the powerful, there was no fatigue at all.
सुखसंसक्तमनसोः पुलकाञ्चितगात्रयोः
Their minds absorbed in pleasure, their bodies thrilled and adorned with goosebumps,
नग्नयोः सुखसंभोगाद्रतिशास्त्रविधिज्ञयोः
Both naked, united in blissful enjoyment, skilled in the arts of love,
चन्दनागुरुकस्तूरीसिन्दूरबिन्दुलिप्तयोः
Their bodies anointed with sandalwood, aloe, musk, and vermilion marks,
वसनानां नूपुराणां कङ्कणानां च सुन्दरि
Of garments, anklets, and bracelets, O beautiful one,
पुष्पतल्पं दलितयोर्बाष्पोत्कर्षं च बिभ्रतोः
On a bed of flowers, as they lay together, they shed abundant tears.
भारेण विश्वंभरयोर्भाराक्रान्ता वसुन्धरा
By the weight of the two sustainers of the world, the earth was burdened.
तयोर्भरभराक्रान्तधरायाश्च भरेण च
By the weight of those two, and by the burdened earth,
कच्छपस्य भरेणैव सर्वाधारा समीरणाः
By the weight of the tortoise, all supports and winds were pressed down.
सर्वं निवेदनं चक्रुर्नारायणपदाम्बुजे 4.46.
They offered everything at the lotus feet of Narayana.
श्रीनारायण उवाच कालप्रयुक्तं कार्यं च सिद्धं तत्समयोचितम्
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The work prompted by time has been accomplished, appropriate to its moment.
पूर्णे वर्षसहस्रे च स्वेच्छया विरमिष्यति
When a thousand years are complete, he will cease by his own will.
