सावित्र्युवाच तदाचम्य सकर्पूरं तांबूलं देहि भक्तितः
Savitri said: 'Now, after rinsing your mouth, offer her betel leaf with camphor, with devotion.'
जाह्नव्युवाच कामिन्याः स्वामिसौभाग्यं सुखं नातः परं भवेत्
Jahnavi said: 'For a loving woman, there is no happiness greater than the good fortune of her lord.'
रतिरुवाच कथं मम प्राणनाथो निःस्वार्थ भस्मसात्कृतः
Rati said: 'How is it that my beloved lord, selfless, has been reduced to ashes?'
जीवयसि विभो कामं कामव्यापारमात्मनि
'O Lord, you revive Kama, the god of love, and his activities within yourself.'
दम्पतीविरहक्लेशं सर्वं ज्ञात्वा दयानिधे
Knowing fully the suffering of separation between husband and wife, O ocean of compassion,
इत्युक्त्वा कामभस्माथ ददौ सा ग्रन्थिबंधितम् 4.45.
Having said this, she then gave the ashes of Kāma, tied in a knot.
हरिस्तद्रोदनं श्रुत्वा करुणामयसागरः
Hari, the ocean of mercy, upon hearing that lamentation,
दृष्ट्वा नारायणं धर्मं ब्रह्माणं च सुरानपि
saw Nārāyaṇa, Dharma, Brahmā, and even the other gods.
शंकरस्य वचः श्रुत्वा तमुवाच हरिः स्वयम्
Having heard the words of Śaṅkara, Hari himself spoke to him.
ऊचुर्देव्यो बहुतरं वाक्यं विनयपूर्वकम्
The goddesses spoke many words with great humility.
दृष्ट्वा कामं रतिस्तं च प्रणनाम महेश्वरम्
Seeing Kāma and Rati, they bowed to Maheśvara.
प्रणम्य शंकरं कामः स्तुतिं कृत्वा यथागमम्
Having bowed to Śaṅkara, Kāma offered praise according to tradition.
कामं संभाष्य देवाश्च युयुजुश्च तमाशिषम्
Having spoken with Kāma, the gods also bestowed their blessings upon him.
अथ शैलः सुरान्सर्वान्नारायणपुरोगमान्
Then the lord of the mountain, with all the gods led by Nārāyaṇa,
अथ शंभुर्वासगृहे वामे संस्थाप्य पार्वतीम्
Then Śaṃbhu, in his dwelling, seated Pārvatī on his left.
भुक्तवंतं शिवं तत्र देवमाताऽदितिः स्वयम् 4.45.
When Śiva had eaten there, the mother of the gods, Aditi, herself—
अदितिरुवाच देहि शीघ्रं मम प्रीत्या दंपत्योः प्रीतिपूर्वकम्
Aditi said: 'Give quickly, for my satisfaction, with love between the couple.'
शच्युवाच यो बभ्राम भुवं मोहात्कालेन प्राप तां सतीम्
Śacī said: 'He who wandered the earth in delusion, in time obtained that virtuous lady.'
अरुंधत्युवाच विविधं बोधयित्वेमां रतिं च कर्तुमर्हसि
Arundhatī said: 'Having instructed her in various ways, you ought also to unite with Rati.'
अहल्योवाच तेन मेना तु मेने त्वां सुतामर्पितुमीश्वर
Ahalyā said: 'Therefore Menā considered you, O Lord, worthy to receive her daughter.'
तुलस्युवाच कथं तदा वसिष्ठश्च प्रभो प्रस्थापितोऽधुना
Tulasī said: 'How then was Vasiṣṭha, O Lord, sent away at that time?'
स्वाहोवाच विवाहे व्यवहारोऽस्ति पुरस्त्रीणां प्रगल्भता
Svāhā said: 'In marriage there is custom, and among women of old, boldness.'
रोहिण्युवाच कुरु पारं स्वयं कामी कामिनां कामसागरम्
Rohiṇī said: Cross over the ocean of desire for lovers yourself, O passionate one.
वसुंधरोवाच येन तुष्टिर्भवेच्छंभो तत्कर्तुमुचितं स्त्रिया
Vasundharā said: Whatever brings satisfaction to Śaṃbhu, that is proper for a woman to do.
संज्ञोवाच न च स्वस्वामिनं शंभो सती जानाति संगतम्
Saṃjñā said: But a chaste woman does not know union with any man other than her own husband, O Śaṃbhu.
शतरूपोवाच रत्नप्रदीपं तांबूलं तल्पं निर्माय निर्जने ।। 4.45.
Śatarūpā said: Prepare a jeweled lamp, betel, and a bed in a secluded place.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच निर्विकारी च भगवान्योगींद्राणां गुरोर्गुरुः
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: The Lord is unchanging, the guru of the yogis’ gurus.
शंकर उवाच जगतां मातरः साध्व्यः पुत्रे चपलता कथम्
Śaṃkara said: How can there be fickleness in the mothers of the worlds, O virtuous ones? And in a son?
शंकरस्य वचः श्रुत्वा लज्जिताः सुरयोषितः
Hearing Śaṃkara’s words, the divine women became ashamed.
भुक्त्वा मिष्टानि भगवानाचम्य च मुदाऽन्वितः
Having eaten delicious foods, the Blessed Lord, having sipped water, was filled with joy.
